If this Joystiq article is to trust, and I think it is, Ace Attorney is even more popular in Japan than what I thought.

Dangeki recently polled its readers, with the question "What video game series would you most like turned into an anime?"

Here's the Top 10 list:

Joystiq wrote:
* 1. Persona 4
* 2. Phoenix Wright (Ace Attorney series)
* 3. Okami
* 4. Kingdom Hearts
* 5. Idol Master
* 6. Metal Gear Solid
* 7. Yakuza
* 8. BlazBlue
* 9. Persona 3
* 10. Atelier Rorona

I didn't expect to PW be ahead of Kingdom Hearts and Metal Gear Solid.
I hope Capcom sees this list

Wow this holds two pieces of good news for me.

The possibility of both an Ace Attorney and a more likely Persona 4 anime.

It's an awesome idea, but the only thing I'm worried about is the localization (i.e. voice acting, edits/cuts/censorship, etc...)

I too, think this could be fantastic!

But! There is a catch. If the dubbed version is handled by 4kids (which it might well be), we're doomed. Just look what they did to Sonic X. The worst that could happen to a PW Anime is:

*Bad voice Acting. (Like in Sonic X)
*Franzy whipping someone scenes cut for violence.
*Diego and Mia are "Just friends" (Done with Sonic and Amy in Sonic X)
*Music edited to crappy comical style stuff (This was done in Sonic X too)
*Classic lines like "You're lying dammit, I can prove it!" in the Japanese version but not in the dubbed for being too epic.

Don't get me wrong, I like Sonic X. I hate 4Kids though. :edgeworth:

You guys are so silly.
You seriously believe that 4kids would want to license a series based on a teen-rated video game?
Especially one that mainly centers around murder trials, lawyers, criminal justice systems, etc?
Remember they're called "4KIDS" for a reason. They license shows that were intended for a younger audience to begin with.

I really don't think we'd have to worry about censorship if an AA anime was made and brought to America. It's pretty niche to begin with, and Capcom's most recent anime ventures (DMC and Basara) both went to Funimation. In the past that was a dreaded name for a dub fan, but they've improved a lot since those days and they pick up mature anime all the time.

The question of will we get it at all is much more pressing than what company will handle it.

Funimation wasn't so bad even then, since DBZ got through it fairly unscathed. XD

I'm actually less worried about the localisation, and more concerned about how it'd actually be made. Unless things got tweaked to fit the anime. I'll explain: I've seen a lot of audio plays do the cross examinations as they were in the game.

Quote:
Apollo: I guess we'll have to bludgeon the answers out of him.
Trucy: Metaphorically, hopefully
Apollo: ... Probably.
//Shing!//
Witness: I used the knife to cut the bread, why would I cut the bread with a knife covered with blood?
OBJECTION!
Apollo: You call that a Knife? *holds up a spoon* That's a knife.
Witness: That's a spoon.
Judge: Mr. Justice, we've all played knifey-spoony before.

Sure it works for the game, but have you ever actually seen the court work like that? It wouldn't sound right, and it disrupts the flow. But, with a small tweak:

Quote:
Apollo: I guess we'll have to bludgeon the answers out of him.
Trucy: Metaphorically, hopefully
Apollo: ... Probably.
Apollo: Mr. X, you said that you'd used that knife to cut the bread, is that correct?
Witness: Yes, what else could I have used?
OBJECTION!
Apollo: You call that a knife? *holds up a spoon* That's a knife.
Witness: That's a spoon.
Judge: Mr. Justice, we've all played knifey-spoony before.

Now which do you prefer? It's little details like that that make me hope that, if it ever does come into production, the team knows the bits they have to tweak.

Funimation is terrible. They censored all the violence. Did you ever wonder why you didn't see blood in cartoons in America, but they were present in Japan? Funimation's fault. Chances are, Phoenix Wright being a murder-laden storyline, they're going to somehow alter it so that it takes all the punch out of the anime. I'd rather just watch subbed Japanese animes.

Good news, feeds my hope for an anime a little. I plead that Capcom will seriously consider this, and that we will get a welldone, unbutchered localization. It's fairly unlikely, but that won't keep me from wishing.

It'd be nice if AA got an anime of if its own (if Prof. Layton got an anime series, then AA definitely derserves one).

Not that I'd ever get to see it, though, living in the UK as I do. *sigh*

Because cartoons are nothing without blood, right? They should make an anime made entirely of people chopping each others limbs off and drinking each others blood! I mean, that'd be totally radical dude. [/sarcasm]

Seriously, the most important thing to anime should be the story, and blindly localising it to appease the Wocky's in the audience would be stupid. As such, I don't mind the blood being removed in a show like DBZ. (Though they should aim the AA anime at a high enough audience to allow everything to happen, obviously; it's murder mysteries)

Also I've edited my previous post with stuff, It'd be nice if you all went back and gave it a look if you haven't already.

No, plus it's more likely (with Tales and Final Fantasy animes already in existance, plus a manga for both P3 and P4).

Heck, I'm excited too (I also want to say something rude to Kingdom Hearts fans but I hold my tounge...err finger).

Wow, I wouldn't have figured Ace Attorney to be pulling ahead of KH in terms of popularity, especially since I think the latest KH games still outsold GK. (And the fact that Okami is even on that list fills me with indecent amounts of squealy joy, except I'm not sure if they'd have the budget or inclination to make it half as beautifully stylized as the game.)

Out of the current localization companies, Funimation's one of the better ones. :/ I think the chances of 4Kids getting it or even WANTING it are next to nil, seeing as how they haven't been doing so well lately. If Funi's picked up stuff like Soul Eater I don't think they'd go out of their way to censor an AA anime--like Croik said, it's got a niche audience, too. If anything, it'd be like a "kid's version" of CSI or Law & Order, and much of the "violence" in the AA games are either gags (Pearl slapping Nick, Franziska whipping people) that would probably get played up in typical over-the-top anime humor, or really not that graphic at all. The WORST we've seen in-game art is probably 1-3, with the impaling flashback... thing.

The games' localization stateside is applauded as pretty much some of the best in the industry, so even if it is brought over to US/other countries, I wouldn't be too intensely worried. Personally, I prefer the english voice clips in the game to the originals, and there's always subs for purists.

I'd love to see this, but I have a feeling that there'll be quite a lot of filler episodes. As in, the type of stories found in the published manga (collection of doujins, rather). Then again, even the most ridiculous of fillers would be okay, if it means we get a PW anime. x3

You're talking about the Funimation of 10 years ago Not that PW is all that violent to begin with - the most violent murders are blunt force trauma or maybe a stab wound, and we never actually see them occur. What's there to censor?

Even in the games they all drink JUICE.

They are great RPG's and I highly reccomend it. Most of the Megami Tensei(so fun to say) games are on Sony's consoles (with the only recent exeption being Devil Survivor on the DS), so it is unlikely that a Persona game will be on the Wii.
