  • What is Super Makoto?
Super Makoto is a fan-created alternate universe based on the Ace Attorney / 逆転裁判 video game series.
In this superhero-themed alternate universe, the Ace Attorney cast is given new life as characters in a grand opera drawn from the myths of the modern day: comic books and manga, cartoons and anime, video games, classic fiction and beyond. Superheros and supervillains clash across the many pages of this work, produced by the sweat, tears, and deep affection of humble Ace Attorney fans - people just like you.
    -
  • How did this project begin?
It was all a misunderstanding, really.
One day, a bunch of people were sitting around in the paintchat and then decided to take turns on a collaborative doodle. Urby drew Makoto, naturally.
    Quote:
Urby: Makoto is going on an adventure!
    MSOB: You have no idea.
And MSOB drew a red cape on her. Hilarity ensued... and the rest is history.
Spoiler: The one that started it all

  • I want to contribute! But how?
If you have any written ideas, art, or designs, simply upload them for public view on this thread here, where everyone in and out of the project can review and discuss it. The Super Makoto project can always use fresh ideas and contributions! Every submitted idea or design will be considered by the project members, and people who consistently contribute good, workable ideas can find themselves on that team list. You don't even need to have your own ideas, all you need to do is offer constructive input and opinions. Fresh perspectives on old information is always welcomed, as we seek to improve every aspect of the project.

Contributors - These are folks who have contributed to the project in ways big and small, but are not currently attached to it on a consistent basis. Some have created concepts while others have participated in discussion, and some have just been there to offer their support. If you were left out of the list, I apologize! Super Makoto: Cast of Characters
Cast of Characters
(Last updated 4 February 2009)

Click on a character's name to read more about them on the Super Makoto Wiki. You can also browse the wiki categories: Heroes - Neutral - Villains
Characters are listed here by general time of addition/conceptualization within the project.
Good - Neutral Good - Neutral Evil - Evil
Deceased

  • Makoto - Super Makoto
The star of Super Makoto. Gifted with Power Perfect, her Inspiration lets her bend and break the border between reality and imagination, summoning things into existence or creating portals to Artspace. She works on art projects and murals for local schools.
  • Drew Ese
Makoto's beleaguered adoptive father, charged with raising and looking after her when the evil Manfred von Karma began hunting down her parents. An artist in his own right, it is largely his sense of honor, justice, and love for all things beautiful that instilled Makoto with her heroic spirit.
  • Apollo Justice - Apollo Justice
After discovering his inherited power as a descendant of Spartan heroes, he fights for justice in and out of the courthouse. His ordainment by the Olympian pantheon allows him to summon an array of mythical relics into battle, and his battle cry possesses unmatched volume.
  • Trucy Wright - Trumpcard
A bright teenage girl and expert magician that uses dazzling tricks and illusions to outwit evildoers when she should be doing her homework. Adopted by Phoenix Wright, she has no idea of the grand magical tradition she will inherit from her parents...
  • Damon Gant - The Fiddler
Formerly posing as a hero and the leader of SL-6, Lightning, he is now a major supervillain and considers himself an enemy to all heroes, and superheroism as a whole. He fights with sticky tentacles and stinging shocks of electricity, like a giant evil jellyfish in orange and green spandex.
  • Phoenix Wright - HoboCop
A former military special operative of Grossberg's unit. After the failed operation known as the Borginia Incident, he was rebuilt into a cyborg with an extensive supply of tools and weapons at his disposal. When not looking after his adopted daughter, Trucy, he patrols the city and keeps it safe from crime. DVD-R/W+ and Blu-Ray compatible.
  • Miles Edgeworth - The Edge
The feared "Demon Prosecutor" ruthlessly fights crime in the courtroom, whereas his werewolf alter ego stalks evildoers in the dark of night.
  • Franziska von Karma
Rebellious daughter of Emperor von Karma and mother of the heroine Makoto. She uses a form of Power Perfect called HAX, allowing her to modify the laws of physics to her own choosing, and fights with various weapons including her trusty laser whip. She sometimes takes the pseudonym Cindy Stone as she travels through time and space, accompanied by her partner in love and war, Adrian.
  • Adrian Andrews - Pulsar
Partner of Franziska von Karma, in battle and in love. Can generate explosions of energy, controlling her output using the "Pulsar Suit". As a young girl she was adopted by Juan Corrida and Celeste Inpax, but after her mother was executed by her father, her memories of them were wiped. Takes on the identity of the man "Adrian Stone" when observing Makoto incognito.
  • Wocky Kitaki
The incredibly unremarkable boy and childhood friend of Makoto. Child of a "retired" yakuza clan, but he tries hard to keep the image of a "gangsta" lifestyle and gets in scuffles on the street. His girlfriend, Alita Tiala, does her best to keep him on a leash.
  • Kristoph Gavin - Sadistress
A devious defense attorney with a God complex and the power to change into his feminine alter ego, Sadistress. Unmatched in physical strength (and proportions), this hedonistic villain traipses about town, employing violence and intimidation when not manipulating courtroom rules.
  • Konrad Gavin - Rocktra
As a man, he is a prosecutor and head of the Gavinners with his best friend, Daryan. However, he can change into Rocktra, a truly outrageous rock goddess who fights with electric shockwaves of sound, music and light. Sometimes partners up with her best friend and fangirl, Lydia. Rocktra's musical career outshines that of the Gavinners, which Daryan resents deeply.
  • Emperor Manfred von Karma
A mastermind and self-proclaimed ruler of his "perfect" empire, he seeks to enslave the entire world using his Power Perfect. Despite insurrections led by his former lieutenant, Celeste Inpax, and his own daughter, Franziska, he continues to sway or recruit other villains to his cause.
  • Pearl Fey - Pink Princess
A seventeen year old high school student and disciple of the famed Steel Samurai. Seperated from the Fey family during Kurain's destruction, Pearl has been taken under the wing of Will Powers. Attends Ivy High School and gets into frequent fights with wanna-be superhero, Cody Hackins. Fights evildoers as the Pink Princess and wields the blue Magatama.
  • Matt Engarde - Repast
"Refreshing as a spring breeze," this pretty boy has made himself famous as a smiling, mild-mannered television heartthrob. However, the doctors at Holy Trinity have given him a second side as a living mutant weapon, and the finest of their super-soldier experiments.
  • Lady Sakai
A modern brigand combining the swashbuckling sensibility of a pirate with the underhanded stealth of a ninja, she roams the world in search of precious booty. As a prominent figure in the underworld, she helped Godot get on his feet after his exile, and even learned a thing or two from the former military operative.
  • Luke Atmey - The Eccentrist
A rogue genius who uses his intellect and technical knowledge to invent tools for the highest bidder. Works mostly for his business partners, like Le Comte du Café Cristo, and employs Lucky and Max as henchmen. Pastimes include self-worshiping and dreaming of having someone who'd worship him the same way.
  • Moonlight Angel
Is she a magical girl? A true angel from heaven? An alien, originally from the moon? A divine figure drawn in Artspace? Or a figment of Luke Atmey's imagination, dreamed up after too many nights spent working too hard on Le Comte's perfect coffee maker? I'm placing $50 on "imaginary friend."
  • Ron DeLite - Mask*DeMasque
Formerly a masked superhero and master thief, and the old rival of the Eccentrist. He has since retired to settle down with his wife, Desirée, start a bike shop, and have a few kids. A bit of a slacker with a fondness for beer.
  • Diego Armando - Godot, Le Comte du Café Cristo
A former military special operative with extensive training who was betrayed in the aftermath of the Borginia Incident. Now an exile and a fugitive, he goes by the pseudonym of Godot, a wealthy underworld businessman and pirate driven by his thirst for revenge.
  • Dream Warrior
A sentient plush doll created by Franziska and Adrian to watch over Makoto. It is unable to move or communicate unless in the presence of intense levels of Power Perfect. Makoto has kept it with her since childhood and carries it protectively with her everywhere.
  • Ema Skye - The Blue Badger
A police detective and amateur scientist, also assigned the role of the secret police agent, "the Blue Badger." She originally wanted to do forensic investigation, but with all the special SCIENCE! and technology she has access to, she can't complain. Uses her scientific knowledge to aid prosecutor Miles Edgeworth in and out of the courtroom.
  • Cody Hackins
A superhero fanboy and high school otaku. He aspires to be a hero like the Steel Samurai, even though he has no natural superpowers and only has self-taught fighting skills and a beam katana he won in at a convention raffle. He teases girls and gets into fights for fun. Pearl Fey ranks number 1 in his book.
  • Desirée DeLite - Triple D
A superheroine who specialized in various firearms and fast motor vehicles. She retired so she could settle down with her husband, Ronnie, start a bike shop, have a few kids. She still indulges in her favorite hobbies, however.
  • Dahlia Fey
Professional Bad Girl and a master with swords and manipulation. She possesses the red magatama, obtained after killing her cousin Mia Fey, and uses it to enhance her dormant spiritual energy. Works for her mother, Morgan Fey, along with her sister Iris.
  • Mia Fey
A military special operative and former holder of the Red Magatama. While in the military she was engaged to Diego Armando, and befriended Phoenix Wright. She was killed in the Borginia Incident by her cousin, Dahlia Hawthorne.
  • Will Powers - Steel Samurai
A gentle giant who formerly carried the mantle of the Steel Samurai. He became the caretaker of Pearl Fey and trained her in the Essence of the Bushido. He is sensitive and loves making children happy.
  • Daryan Crescend - Hairaiser
A rogue villain who fights with his mutated hair, which is a weapon, an extension of his body, and a threat to his own health. Also known for his keen senses and distrusting nature. He seeks Borginian Cocoons and holds a grudge against the doctors of Holy Trinity. Plays guitar in Konrad's band, the Gavinners.
  • Lydia Cadaverini - CosStar
Cousin to Viola, and a mob princess of sorts, she would rather spend her time as a professional cosplayer with the ability to mimic superpowers, given an accurate costume. She uses it for performance, but has recently considered becoming a superhero. Often picks the wrong costume for the situation. A show biz natural, and BFFs with Konrad Gavin's alter-ego, Rocktra.
  • Sal Manella - The Guildmaster
The Otaku King, who knows everything about nothing. With his treasure trove of trivia and ultimately unfulfilling hobbies, he leads a horde of geeky yes-men and supplicants as a rabid band of profit-seeking marauders. Roll initiative.
  • Maya Fey
A spirit medium, currently hiding somewhere in the shadows, most likely searching for long-lost mother, Misty Fey, while planning to stop her aunt, Morgan Fey, from collecting all three Magatamas. She is blessed with heightened spiritual energy thanks to the green magatama. Her only true weakness is the tasty hamburger.
  • Morgan Fey
Bitter and begrudging, she is tired of life as part of the Fey Branch Family and now seeks to control as much spiritual energy as possible. She is currently in search of the three Magatamas, and has employed her elder daughters Dahlia and Iris Fey to assist her, also employing Mimi Miney as a spy and assassin. Besides that, she is currently searching for any possible trace of her missing (and supposedly dead) daughter, Pearl Fey.
  • Iris Fey
Professional Goody-Two-Shoes Girl. Lacking physical strength, spiritual energy and evil, she makes up for her inabilities with wisdom and love towards all things. Despite her mother's terrible resentment towards her and Dahlia, she hopes that being around her sister will eventually influence Dahlia to change her ways. Good luck with that, Iris.
  • Machi Tobaye - El Mariachi Machi
A young gunslinger known for the distinctive "barking" sound of his bullets: AY AY AY AY! Seeking Borginian Cocoons for some unknown purpose. No does speka English.
  • Mimi Miney - Mime
Wearing the Mime Demon Mask, she has the power to shapeshift into other people, mimicking their appearances but not their abilities. Also highly agile and trained in martial arts. She used to work at Holy Trinity, before being "killed" by the good doctors. Currently works with Morgan Fey.
  • Penny Nichols
History teacher at Ivy High and closet superhero fanatic. The only teacher completely aware of Pearl Fey's alter ego as Pink Princess, she strives to help the disciple of her favorite hero, the Steel Samurai. Her greatest opponent is Wendy Oldbag, who continues to raise suspicions about Pearl Fey's frequent "bathroom trips."
  • Larry Butz
A super dumbass, dumb enough to be fooled into dating Mimi Miney (disguised as her sister Ini), who is only using him to get closer to Pink Princess. An art teacher at Ivy High School, he believes he taught Makoto everything she knows about art. Pretty much has the hots for every female character, unless she's underage or is Wendy Oldbag.
  • Wendy Oldbag
Extremely old and refusing to take her pension, she continues to work as a security guard for Ivy High School. While neither agile nor strong, she talks faster than anyone else. While usually sticking to the rules, she is an obvious sucker for handsome men, such as Larry Butz, and is easily distracted by them.
  • Jake Marshall - Dusk
Formerly a hero of team SL-6. He's a cowboy, baby. A legendary sharpshooter who mastered using a spirit energy technique called the Fingerbang. When Gant killed his brother, Neil Marshall, Jake went solo. He's now a drifter and a vigilante, friends with no one but the barkeep.
  • Angel Starr - Vision
Formerly a hero of team SL-6. One of her eyes is blessed with extraordinary visions, and the other has a powerful gaze that can dominate the mind and body. After the supposed death of teammate Bruce Goodman, she turned away from justice and became a queen among crime lords. She has minions, better known as her 'boyfriends'.
  • Wesley Stickler
A helpful narrative aid for the audience and useful punching bag for the characters. He possesses the incredible inability to STFU.
  • Lana Skye - Icecap
Formerly a hero of team SL-6. She was the right-hand partner of Gant himself, and even though she has retired and returned to the life of a prosecutor, he still holds power over her. Has the magical power to summon and control ice and cold.
  • Bruce Goodman - The Shadow
Formerly a hero of team SL-6. He really is a good man. When Gant was exposed as a villain, Bruce swore to take him down at any cost. However, this wouldn't be a quick or easy task, and he faked his own death to work in secret... even to his love, Angel Starr, lest she become a liability.
  • Neil Marshall - Sunset
Formerly a hero of team SL-6. The younger brother of Jake Marshall. We don't know what his power was, but he's dead now. Curse you, Gant!
  • Regina Berry - Lucky
A former child star with beautiful, dazzling, and overly sparkly attacks. After her show was canceled, she strayed from the path of justice and now works as a henchman for Luke Atmey. She is assisted by her faithful tiger companion, Regent, and costar Tuxedo Max.
  • Alita Tiala - Cold Killer X
Brains, beauty, a directorate position at Holy Trinity, martial arts skills, well-laid plans for treachery against her coworkers, and a relationship with Wocky that lets her keep close, seemingly innocuous tabs on Makoto... this girl's got it all.
  • Turner Grey
Hot-headed Medical Director of Holy Trinity, he is not a man to be trifled with. He demands everything go according to plan, lest he have his head chopped off by Emperor von Karma; he even goes so far as to have his assistant, Mimi Miney, assassinated.
  • Pal Meraktis
Director at Holy Trinity Hospital, completely devoid of ethics and wary of his power-hungry assistant, Alita Tiala.
  • Hotti
The lead director at Holy Trinity Hospital. Though at first he appears to merely be a withered old man, he is in truth a brilliant and disturbing mad scientist. His experiments turn people into monsters. Fond of female anatomy and has a photographic memory for faces.
  • Celeste Inpax - Iron Maiden
The original mastermind behind the insurrection against Emperor von Karma. As one of his lieutenants, she earned the callsign "Iron Maiden" and lived and died with honor towards those that knew of her bravery. Created the "Pulsar Suit," and had the ability to fly with its butterfly wings. She is the adoptive mother of Adrian Andrews. Executed by her own husband, Juan Corrida.
  • Juan Corrida - General Gitaroo
General of Emperor von Karma's military forces, he is a man to be feared or revered. Despite his skewed moral compass, one good eye, and obvious old age, do not underestimate his abilities—especially when it comes to Gitaroo shreddin'. Executed his wife, Celeste Inpax, and is the "long-lost" adopted father of Adrian Andrews.
  • Lisa Basil - Palindrone
As an engineer for the CIA, she's the woman you go to for technological needs. Since retiring from superheroism, Lisa has gone on to work with HoboCop, providing state-of-the-art sophisticated weaponry and gadgetry. Her left arm was severed many years ago, and has received a robotic one, equipped with laser weapons. Supervises Glen Elg.
  • Glen Elg
A regular human engineer for the CIA, and Lisa Basil's understudy (crossing fingers for "boyfriend"). He is a patient and meticulous man, but has troubles dealing with Hobocop's haphazard curiosity towards sensitive equipment. Unintentionally assisted in Tigre's creation, by donating Phoenix Wright's DNA to Holy Trinity, due to blackmail. Thanks again, Glen!
  • Furio Tigre
Take a tiger, stir in Phoenix Wright's DNA and a twist of genetic supersoldier powers, and what do you get? Tigre, the powerful shapeshifting pet of Holy Trinity. He's not quite the perfect soldier, but he's loyal and good for doing their gruntwork.
  • Mike Meekins - Cobalt
A speedy, energetic "hero" with little sense of coordination. He dreamed of joining SL-6, but was rejected by Gant. After the team was broken, however, he formed a close partership with former member Bruce Goodman, serving as his contact with the outside world.
  • Spark Brushel
"Has excessively long and annoying quotes," end quote. Being a talented writer, he decided to partner up with photographer Lotta Hart, in hopes of landing "a front page hit as super as Super Makoto herself," end quote. Is a bit of a fast talker, and can persuade (i.e. annoy) people into granting him access to secret places and information.
  • Lotta Hart
If you don't watch where you step with this woman, then you might get beaten up Southern style. This photographer extraodinare won't stop at her mission until she accomplishes it (or loses interest). Along with her writing partner, Spark Brushel, she is attempting to land the big scoop: photos of heroine Super Makoto. Relatively ineloquent.
  • Dick Gumshoe
He got his start as a detective, and then became the covert special agent known as the Blue Badger. He is now the leader of both the Police Force and the Blue Badger Corps, and serves as the main link of contact between the police and active superheroes.
  • Maggey Gumshoe
Formerly Maggey Byrde, an officer who served as the covert special agent known as the Blue Badger. She married Dick Gumshoe, and now assists him in running the Blue Badger Corps.
  • Dustin Prince
An honorable man who served the police force as the Blue Badger in years past. Lost his life in the line of duty when the Blue Badger Corps was targeted by Gant.
  • Billy Bob Johns - Tuxedo Max
Former sidekick to Regina Berry who would follow her to the ends of the earth: he's the Darien to her Serena, and unfortunately for both them, the James to her Jessie. A wonderful showman who mastered flight and is working on making himself useful otherwise. Also employed by Luke Atmey.
  • Romein LeTouse
An Interpol Agent sent from Europe to investigate Hairaiser and the Borginian Cocoons. A large man of few words, trained in using very large guns. Doomed to die at the split-ends of Hairaiser.
  • Guy Eldoon
A doctor who has mastered the Healing Touch technique. He patrols the city in his noodle cart, helping heroes and villains alike recover from particularly brutal fights. He also runs an inner-city clinic focusing on pro-bono work and health insurance advocacy. Apologies to Atlus.
  • April May
A nurse at Holy Trinity Hospital. She reports to Redd White, and is in charge of monitoring and maintaining the experiments of the genetic super soldier project. She is trained in martial combat and teaches fighting at the hospital. She developed a maternal instinct towards the first of the experiments, Daryan.
  • Viola Cadaverini - Belladonna
Heiress to the Cadaverini family legacy of witchcraft and underworld crime, Viola would rather spend her time tending to her collection of darling plants and fungi. Her affinity for plants is such that she has created a plant-like being, "Charley," to aid and protect her. She follows her aunt, Dee Vasquez.

    Dee Vasquez

    Valerie Hawthorne

    Terry Fawles

    Bruto Cadaverini

    Redd White

    Shelly De Killer

LATEST NEWS AND DISCUSSION

17 July 2009 - Critical Need for Development (See "20 June 2009 - Beginnings" below for more information about the First Chapter)

Characters in critical need of development to be ready for the First Chapter
Alright, for the first chapter of Super Makoto, I believe we need these characters:
  • Makoto Ese/Super Makoto: This goes without saying!
  • Trucy Wright/Trumpcard: The world of Super Makoto has plenty of established superheroes. Establishing this fact using Trucy and Pearl is important, as they are also Makoto's close friends and part of her motivation to become a superhero herself. As far as magical girls go, Trucy is more of a Cute Witch, with few direct combat techniques, and it's possibly her tutelage that helps Makoto adapt her unusual powers to superhero work. Trucy is the pure- and light-hearted side of superheroism.
  • Pearl Fey/Pink Princess: To contrast Trucy, we have Pearl represent the more modern Magic Warrior archetype. While Trucy is more straightforward with her innate abilities, Pearl is fully accessorized with a Magical Transformation Sequence, weapon of choice, and a mentor to learn it all from. Pearl imparts that SUPERHEROISM IS SERIOUS BUSINESS.
  • Drew Ese: What Magical Girl series would be complete without a doting and worried parent figure? Lots of them, maybe, but we already ruled out Parental Abandonment. It's sad that we haven't developed Drew much, because he is one of the most important characters: he raised Makoto to be the hero she will be throughout the rest of the series.
  • Wocky Kitaki: And of course, the perennial love interest. Wocky is the plain and mundane side of things aside from Drew, and may represent in some ways all the people in the world Makoto wishes or is destined to protect.
  • Kristoph Gavin/Sadistress: As I stated before, Sadistress is an important villain, and Makoto's entry into superheroism ought to be linked to another major character. This is a great setup for them becoming archnemeses, and it will add definite weight to all of Sadistress' future appearances... stop laughing!

In any case, consider this a shortlist of characters we need to finish designing.
  • Super Makoto almost has her outfit ready, thanks to Kiki's designs. This is pretty much it, but we need to settle on things from the waist down; the belt may be a bit much, and her leggings and boots need to be finalized.
  • Trumpcard has older designs from Minuki (the forum member), and needs to be revisited. This is a more recent iteration by Kiki, and you can see how it compares to Minuki's original design and a later iteration by myself. The red and white stripes I find a bit distracting: returning to something closer to Minuki's design (and Trucy's original game outfit) might be more suitable.
  • Pink Princess is on the cusp of finalization, with Kiki's armor designs. Here's Kiki's design sketch, which you can compare with a recent iteration.
  • Drew and Wocky are both lacking greatly in the art department. HEY, THE GUYS NEED LOVE, TOO.
  • Sadistress may be one of the most popular subjects, and certainly has a direction for her design, but we have yet to hammer out the details. Iterations of her design have run the gamut of leotards, wraps, corsets, and more.
Be sure to check out the Photobucket tags for artwork of each of these characters. Contribute any ideas you may have!

If you have any ideas for how this can play out, please submit them here. More characters can participate in Super Makoto's beginning, which could still happen any different number of ways. The future is in your hands!

PAST NEWS AND DISCUSSION

20 June 2009 - Beginnings
Spoiler: "20 June 2009 - Beginnings"
SUPER MAKOTO'S BEGINNINGS
Or, "The First Episode"

That's right, team, we've had lots of fun expanding on all the details of Super Makoto's world, but it's time we got serious about making the "actual story". We have plenty of timeline events and potential plots in place, but we don't have the the most important piece that will bring it all together: Makoto's own story! This summer, I'd like us to get cracking on writing out the nitty-gritty details of the life and times of Makoto, starting with her deciding to use her powers to be a superhero.

Some things we should remember:
  • Makoto's powers are pre-existing; she doesn't "discover" them, but she decides to finally use them to change the world around her.
  • Makoto is shy. She needs a really good reason to leave her shell, if only for a short while, and this should tie into her motivation and how she approaches problems.
And some things we know:
  • Wocky is her closest friend. Pearl and Trucy may also be friends with her.
  • This is a prelude to the Von Karma Arc.
These are very general starting points, but should help each of us come up with our own ideas.

My take on these is that we should use Sadistress as the "introductory" villain, as she is a very important character. At the same time, it also doesn't make sense to kick off everything with our biggest (plotwise) villain, Manfred himself. We should build up to that as Makoto explores the use of her powers, and their origins.

Other minor considerations: are Pearl and Trucy already in the superhero business at this point? If they are, they could help serve as inspiration for Makoto, and also helpful sidekicks/mentors in her early days.

Spoiler: "29 September 2008 - The Start of a New Adventure!"
Welcome to the shiny new thread for the Super Makoto project! With the old thread bloated and overgrown with drama, discussion, lulz, and stuff, we decided a fresh start would be necessary. This gives us control over the first post and page for updates and presentation, so now it's easier than ever to keep track of what's going on in the project, for veterans and newcomers alike! Be sure to check the "Important Links" in the first post to find out more about the Super Makoto project and what's been going on.

The project members have been hard at work populating the "Cast of Characters" listing here in the thread. We're trying to format it into something readable, so let us know if you have problems.[/url]

YAY :D

To pick up with discussion, here's a brief summary of recent topics of discussion. Feel free to browse the last pages of the old thread, if you think you need more details.

Pie wrote:
The current focus of discussion is "characters we desperately want to use but can't seem to find a good place for". Namely, Shelly de Killer, Viola Cadaverini and Dee Vasquez. The only general consensus is that Dee is somehow tied into the the Cadaverini family, perhaps an aunt to Viola.

One idea is that Dee killed Manuel Rivale, and someone close to her was killed by Shelly de Killer in revenge. Matt was given her help to become a star, but because he went through a mafioso producer to do this, he had to repay the favor. Dee asked him to help them get revenge on de Killer. However, since Matt was a mere actor, he was caught and stabbed in the face, making him turn to the help of Holy Trinity.

A side idea for this is that Dee can grant any character a sort of limited immortality, in exchange for their servitude. There's a lot of issues involved in this which are still being ironed out.

Viola has a lot of potential ideas going for her, many of them dark, gothic, or witch-like in nature. Once such idea is giving her a witchblade. Another is having her be the descendant of an oracle, a super who worked for the mafia in ages past, and having the spirit sometimes possess Viola in the present.

One way or another, we're getting into mafia business. Which means Wocky and his family will probably serve as an important bridge between the world of superhero justice and the world of mafia 'justice'. You'd bedda watch which bakery you'se buyin' bread from. Capisce?

PM'd you more of those minibios, Bee. Though we need to do some work on Redd White sooner or later, he's currently just "a big bad, bwar har har! >:U" and not much else...

And now, to ensure this thread remains ontopic and littered with delicious eyecandy, here are some images Bee has drawn of Witchblade!Viola, since they're hot and relevant.

Spoiler: Black is the new black.

... I'm a little jealous of how hot she looks in that last one...

Meanwhile, all I've done lately is make a Hairaiser popsicle.

Spoiler: :B

No, no, this isn't hinting at Daryan having a crush on Lana. It's a reference to days before my time...

... yeeeah... I don't know either. But ice!Daryan appeared a few times on old, old canvases so... I claimed the artistic right of interpretation.

Okay, I'll get back to doing wiki work or something like a good little monkey. Ook ook.

I've looked over your character notes, and it's funny to note that both PSMGM and Lawyerman! have almost the exact same roles for Lotta and Spark. I think we probably came up with them at the same time as well, it's pretty funny.

Oh wait, RIVALRYYYY XD *bricked*

Pfff, let's not get into unusual similarities, shall we? Many of them can just be chalked up to a common canon source... let's just leave it at that before things get ugly.

Especially since last time I checked, Spark/Lotta was the newstastic crack ship of choice for the fandom, because Spark + Lotta = SPARTA. They work so well once you think about it, they should be canon partners.

Also, our Lotta is hottah. :keiko:

Bah, I prefer the old Lotta TBH. YESIADMITTHAT! And I wasn't being at all angry or accusing in my tone, so you didn't need to be so formal about it. XD

Also, I'll only Grovel if Bee wants me to. But since that'll probably happen anyway I'd better get drafting *Opens wordpad*

I know. I talk formal because I'm a talker, a woman of business. I apologize if you have a problem with that.

But I was quite serious about the grovelling. Not only was I promoted to second in command of Super Makoto recently, but the wiki was initially my suggestion to Bee all the way back in May, which he wisely adopted. If you're going to be borrowing ideas, you should give credit where it's due, don't you think?

You can, however, grovel to Bee as well. I don't think I would've been able to push forward the idea of a wiki for the project on my own. :keiko:

I shouldn't have to ask you. Get grovelling!

AND LESS PLEASES, PLEASE,YOU'RE STRETCHING THE PAGE.

Glad to have you back, Minuki/Lydia. I figured you were caught up with RL stuff, but don't worry—the project never forgets its own.

Back to some serious discussion, Redd White really wasn't much more than a generic thug in the original canon, though I personally do feel a little guilty that his colleague, Juan Corrida, is a gazillion times more awesome than Redd is at the moment. Until we think of some kind of gimmick for Redd, at least...

I guess one hook we could get at is Redd's relationship with April? At the moment he remains a faceless, distant master and commander. I think it'd be fine to move him more towards the fore, possibly as a rich magnate who exercises control in the upper echelons of society. He might be the one to fund Holy Trinity's experiments, as well, rather than putting Manfred's name and identity in danger. He should be involved in possibly several other of Manfred's conspiracies, and act as a "bridge villain" towards Manfred's arc.

Yeah, I'll admit that Redd was just a stepping stone in the greater scheme of things, heh.

When you get a chance, could you put a space in the middle of your pleases? The page is stretching. ^^;

Otherwise, that's some good grovelling. I approve.

As for Redd, I wonder if we can't give him something to make his story arc more his own? Rather than making him just the bridge to Manfred? He's a grand asshole who owns his own little empire of information, there's so much more he could be doing on the side even if he is serving the emperor. Hell, why is he serving von Karma? I could see him getting paid a king's fortune for it...

As for his connections to April, there's so much fun we can have there. If April has developed somewhat of a maternal relationship with Daryan, the hell are the dynamics between Redd and Daryan gonna be like?

Also, speaking of story arcs, how does this sound so far?

If Daryan looks up to April as mother-figure which logically mean that he focuses of his emotions(love?) on her. So, if April gets into a deep relationship with another guy (Redd for example), she 'll focus on Redd instead of Daryan. And, like any child turned away by his mother for another man, he would get jealous and even outraged for taking away his "mother". Which could to a development of bitter hatred for Redd which could build-up as he gets older. Afterall: "Daryan doesn't like you."

Perhaps even lead to a "Villian vs Villian" relationship somehow for Daryan and Redd down the timeline or in another story arc. But, this might be crossing into "anti-hero" territory for Daryan.

Also, I was reading over Daryan's profile and his parents are mentioned. I understand his parent's got into a search for a treatment his "acute condition". Eventually, have them brought him to the Holy Trinity Hospital. Then he gets submitted for "treatment" and he stays there for the rest of timeline until he escapes. This seems like a minor loose end to me, but what happen to his actual parents? Did they just abandon him there? I'm not saying to make them important characters or anything, but shouldn't there be little closure to this before April become his "caretaker"?

Re: Super Makoto
LET'S GIVE REDD A GITAROO. IT'LL INCREASE HIS COOLNESS BY 1000X!

But ya, moving on. I wrote out a more detailed depiction of the oracle/prophet that is the first original Cadaverini, and how Viola is supposedly reincarnated from her.

Spoiler: Click to open
Name: Cadavern Doe (lame first name, I know. I wanted to tie it into the family name. If you have any suggestions, please let me know)
Age: Maybe over 100 years old or something
Description: Cadavern is proclaimed as the original Cadaverini, as their last name is derived from her first. She was a witch during the olden days, but was not like the witches that humans claimed could turn you into a frog. She was rather a benevolent good witch. Her powers did not entail much, other than to see the predetermined future and what would occur. Albeit to her misfortune she could not stop the events of her prophecies from coming true, in any supernatural fashion. While sleeping one night she had a dream vision.

In the vision she was tied to a stake and was about to be burned alive by the villagers. Before waking a voice whispered a date and year to her. To her horror, she realized, after waking in the middle of the night that the date in the dream was only one year away. Fearing for her life Cadavern took all her money, stole a horse from a local farmer, and ran from the village. This was her way of hoping to avoid her impending fate.

In the city she began to work as a gypsy. She became famous for her power of prediction, but continued to move from city to city when accused of witchery. One evening she was discovered by a man and after telling his fortune he asked her to work for him. However, what she didn't know was that the man was a crime lord of the city and needed her power to predict how businesses here and there would go.

For a certain time she agreed, deciding that as long as he didn't rat her out as a gypsy she could stop her fate for a certain time--perhaps even change it. About eleven months after running away the crime boss sought to target her home village for a money raid. When asked about his future she refused to tell him, and he became furious with her defiance. Two days later she received a prophecy of many men breaking into her home in the city. Looking at their clothes she knew they were villagers from her village. It was then she realized that it was almost one year since her prophecy of dying.

A day later she told several people around the crime organization that she trusted of what was to occur. She told them that if what was to happen would become true, that they should not trust the crime boss for he would most likely be behind it. When asked why him, she responded that due to refusing to tell the future of a raid, he would possibly rat her out as a witch. The next week her home was raided while she was having tea.

She went willingly, knowing that there was no way she could prevent her fate from occurring. All she could do was prolong it. Even when she ran from the place she was to be prosecuted at, one year later as predicted she was to be burned alive there. Yet what she did realize was that if she never ran away a year ago, the impending fate may have come quicker. If she was accused early, she could have rotted in prison for the year.

After news of her death reached the city, the people she told of her prophecy realized she could have not been an ordinary gypsy. They believed her to be a prophet of the future. They did as she asked of them, and left the crime boss and became their own organization. Though they still stick to their organized crime ways, they have decided that in their family they would look out for each other and leave others for death like the crime boss did. To honor Cadavern, they named their mobster family the Cadaverini family.

To this day she is revered in the family, and can still influence and keep track of the stream of evil and good plaguing the world via her reincarnation, Viola Cadaverini. The family itself still holds true to it's roots, and has many super natural family members and artifacts.

Daryan rides that road quite a lot, actually. Which is a hard road to be riding in a story like this. Out of all our current villains, it's probably easiest to develop sympathy for him - a lot of things happened to him that were undeserved and generally not his fault, so you can start to understand him well.

Why he's still a villain? Because whether or not he does things that make sense, shows signs of heart, or generally has moments where he seems more an antihero, it's important to remember that his actions are still going to be 100% crime, and whatever emotional issues he has he really could be dealing with them better. His cause doesn't justify his means.

Of course, by realizing this, it doesn't take much to realize that he's a smack upside the head from being an antihero, though.

As for his parents... the current handwave is that he lost contact with them, having spent his entire childhood in a medical facility cut off from the world. However, I have considered that they could be killed any number of ways after he's submitted, like a death by plane crash... explaining his fear of them. Worse, Bee's suggested that Turner Grey could arrange to have them killed somehow, which would leave their son in their hands.

It's open to suggestion, I think.

Re: Super Makoto
While I also wanted to link the original oracle and the origins of the Cadaverini clan to organized crime, I don't think it's entirely necessary to make them a separate character, outside of being part of a background legend. Introducing a "possessing spirit" as we had discussed in chat would bring characterization problems into the fold, especially since we're dealing with one of the canon characters as it is.

My idea was that the "oracles" be descended from the Pythia, the oracles of Delphi, something that certainly stretches throughout the history of that particular region of the world. Hmm.

But we do agree on the organized crime bit. From what it sounds like, the oracle may have already had her own faction in place for protection, like an order of mystics. After the oracle's death, they preserve/trace her bloodline so they can keep track of potential heirs, since not everyone in the family possesses that power.

I don't think it would be right to use a prophecy to preordain Viola. It should be something more like a random process, a reason for the Cadaverini line to proliferate and survive in hopes of finding the rightful heir (similar to the Fey clan?). Eventually this leads up to the present, and Viola's budding power, which Dee Vasquez discovers and tries to nurture, getting into the potential oracle's graces for her own nefarious purposes.

But that's just my opinion.

Re: Super Makoto
Cracked open some myth stuff for this one...

There's a few problems on that, some which can be tweaked pretty easily but are still a bit annoying... mostly relating to Delphi itself. On one hand, Delphi's a city of Greece, not Italy, but that's not too glaring to myself, given my own name is Italian from "Trojan", and Troy was in Turkey. Plus, the name "Pythia" was derived from the rotting of the body of the monstrous Python which Apollo slew at the site, which actually works pretty well with the "Cadaver" or "corpse" in Cadaverini.

But what's more difficult about making this idea work would be the temple at Delphi itself. The location was an important part of who the oracle was, if not more important than the oracle herself, especially since succeeding oracles were chosen by merit, not blood. As good ol' Wikipedia tells it...

Wikipedia wrote:
There are many stories of the origins of the Delphic Oracle. One late explanation, which is first related by the 1st century BC writer, Diodorus Siculus, tells of a goat herder called Kouretas, who noticed one day that one of his goats, who fell into a crack in the earth, was behaving strangely. On entering the chasm, he found himself filled with a divine presence and could see outside of the present into the past and the future. Excited by his discovery he shared it with nearby villagers. Many started visiting the site, until one of them was killed by the experience. From then, only young girls were allowed to approach the chasm and then in conditions regulated by a guild of priests and priestesses.

... meaning unless we can give her some subtle power in the meantime she's useless, because until she goes on a pilgrimage to Delphi, she can't really be the Oracle. I think. Weird as that may sound.

(Also of note, Apollo took the site after killing the serpent there, but says here that Poseidon, god of sea and earthquakes, held it before him, and Gaia, mother earth goddess of everything, before that. The site's considered a womb of the earth, basically. Don't... don't think about that too hard. D: )

I'm intrigued by some parts of WE's idea, but I'm really not so keep on the spirit possession and, if we're going into history anyway, just calling her a witch. ... question, does anyone know much about Wicca? I'm wondering if we shouldn't be looking for elements there to solidify the ideas we have tumbling around about Viola's character.

Re: Super Makoto
Ugh, modern witchcraft is a mire of various interpretations and imposed philosophy and ethics, not to mention the whole issue of Christian influences. I think, if anything, we should leave the more finely detailed mysterious purposefully vague, such that we can Ass Pull plot devices or superpowers from it as needed.

I mean, for example, there was the idea for Dee's "contract" ability, where she grants an individual eternal youth or immortality in exchange for total obedience to her (much like a puppet on a string, or leash). That and we also have to define the extent of oracular powers Viola may have, if any.

As for verifiable details, the "Witchblade" would, in the original comics, eat your arm off if you were not worthy of using it. :U

And a lot of witchcraft seems to flow from worship of the goddess Diana, who was Apollo's sister in Roman mythos... hmmm.

Re: Super Makoto
Yeah. That was something that I noticed a lot of, especially as far as Italian witchcraft (or what information remains of it) is concerned. Diana has been, and remains, the moon goddess that many witches are followers of. She is the queen of the witches. (And yes, Diana is Apollo's sister. TRUCY IS A WITCH, BURN HER!)

If not Diana, it's often a satanic figure, particularly as Christianity has had its say and turned most of the non-Christian god ideals into the devil. (Why does this give me the mental image of Viola trying to decide between helping Dee and helping Trucy?)

Anyway... I dunno. I feel like we haven't quite nailed the idea for Viola's character yet. There's so many ways you can play with that one idea of "she's a witch" that we really need something unique and relevant to the rest of the story. You know?

On another note, thanks to Jaws asking me the right questions, a new idea has been hatched for the handwave of Daryan's parents. "Why not have another character kill them?" (He suggested The Edge as something that looks like a good parent-killing thing, lolwhut) I started to talk and think at the same time, noting that we actually don't have many characters who'd kill another character's parents...

... except we do, depending on who they are. Damon Gant kills superheroes. Let that sink in for a second.

If Daryan were the son of two superpowered heroes, and one considers all the genetics involved in two supers having one baby, it makes sense why he'd be born with a supernatural condition that was powerful and unstable.

If those parents died, it'd be another thing screwing up his morality - without being in their care long enough to be taught their heroic beliefs, the moral of that story may boil down to, "They helped other people, and they died for it."

And let's say he doesn't know who killed his parents, because he was already at HT at the time of the incident. Gant could, during his story arc, convince Daryan to do some work for him and Daryan starts to follow him, up until he somehow finds out that Gant killed his parents...

Insert shark rage, followed by a nice dose of failure because Gant could probably electrocute him into submission, followed by Daryan returning home with his tail between his legs and only having Konrad (who he wouldn't know is Rocktra yet) to turn to about his severe emotional trauma and what an asshole Gant is...

How does all that sound? Tune in next week when I suggest that we shoot his dog.

Re: Super Makoto
Because it was rabid. And The Edge

But yeah, Daryan sounds a lot like a Woobie Villain; and every franchise needs at least one character like that. To explain more, it's a character that people like to see in trouble so they can feel sorry for them. With villains, it gives you that extra knife-twist in the gut when the character does something really evil.

I think this concept would work perfectly on behalf of both Daryan's and Gant's characters.

I have ask this before I go on with my notes on Daryan. After Daryan escapes from HT, he fades away for while before befriending Konrad. Would this be around the time Daryan could start to work for Gant? If so, I'm guessing this would leaking into the first half of the Gant arc, right? Anyway, If Gant is gonna get Daryan to work for him, perhaps a promise of more atrocinine is in order for getting Daryan into doing a few side jobs for him. Daryan did stole the Borginian Cocoons before his escape, he surely couldn't have stole over a years worth of them considering unstable powers are usually Very unstable. Maybe this can be could be used as way to push Daryan into becoming Hairaiser?

As for Gant, it pushes the point that Gant kills superheroes who many of them have had their names forgotten. It's mentioned into Wiki article for Gant's arc but nothing really more then that. It comes across to me that Gant is a solo villian after the betrayal of SL-6 so, Gant is a little lacking in the friends/allies area. So having Daryan work/hire would help connect Gant a little more with the active character cast of the Gant Arc. Maybe, a chain of command kinda thing?

During the bound to happen "Hairaiser Vs. The Kiddy Fiddler " battle, Hairaiser's Hair = Thunder Rod?

(Also, If I'm using the names in the wrong context, please, correct me.)

Re: Super Makoto
Gerk - No, I said Daryan's dog, not Ema's.

But yeah, I've actually felt like he's been somewhat of a woobie character since his development has opened the door for so much crap to happen to him. I haven't said it myself, since he seems like the sort of character who'd hate to be called a "woobie". Anyway, in this context, I admit that I'm probably responsible, since I'm a Daryan fangirl and hee mekes mee feel ell verm und foozzy inseede, bork bork bork.

Spoiler: Look at that face and tell me he doesn't need hugs. (4-3 spoiler sprite.)
Image

But then I keep going out of my way to make him more vicious and harder to actually hug. Because if he were easier to hug, he'd be an antihero, not a villain, and he wouldn't have half the problems he does.

MSOB - What, not even a comment on that remark about TRUCY IS A WITCH, BURN HER!?

Ami - New thread means new visitors, it seems. Awesome Thanks for stopping by and reading what we've got so far!

BP - All the names are right. "Lightning" is Gant pre-SL-6 Incident, "The Kiddy Fiddler" is Gant post-SL-6 Incident, Gant is always Gant. I tend to avoid using "The Kiddy Fiddler" myself because I think it sounds dumb. I think Bee suggested making him an alien, and having his alien name sound sort of like "The Kiddy Fiddler", which could work, and actually adds to Lightning's Superman parallel...

Anyway, the times of the Gant Arc are definitely more than adjustable, much like the bulk of the whole plot right now. I have it written down that the first time Daryan becomes Hairaiser, Konrad is not only his friend, but Konrad knows who he is from the start. However, this can be changed - but as you yourself pointed out might not even have to, if we assume that Daryan could have done work for Gant before he took the name of Hairaiser and became an actual villain.

Which means Gant not only killed Daryan's parents which pushed Daryan towards villainy, not only got Daryan to do work for him despite this which would push Daryan towards villainy with the eventual betrayal, but even helped him get into actual villainy in the first place. (Which might in turn explain Daryan's spandex costume, since we seem to keep away from them, besides those two. Ooh, new costume for Daryan after Gant, maybe?) Oh Gant, you're turning into such a magnificent bastard. And Daryan, you continue to approach but never cross the line between villain and antihero. I like this all far too much.

Yes, electricity is on Daryan's long list of weaknesses (he's a glass jaw villain - extremely powerful but easy to take down due to crappy resistance). Partly because his main weapon is hair, partly because of his shark-ness - his senses are keen, meaning his nerves are sensitive, especially to electricity, especially to ELECTRIC PAIN.

Off Topic Note: Man, if you guys get so worked up over something small like stretched tables I wonder how you'd react to something more serious XD

We just don't like the page being stretched out :3 Neatness and all (which is why we put all of our big canvas pchat pics in spoiler tags).

I dabble a lot in web design and graphic design, so stretching tables are a visual nightmare to me. D:

Having it right on the first page of the thread, too, isn't the best way to kick things off. And then there was looking down at the Topic Review when making a reply, and having that be stretched...

But thank you for taking care of it. Much better!

Yeah, "the Kiddy Fiddler" is kind of outdated since it refers to the old "Gant rape" meme, and, well, for purposes of SMako we can't have him do any rape or fiddling. Unless you count his manipulating Daryan to become a villain... D:

...So he recruits youths to become the new generation of villains? Hmmm...

Actually I think I recall something. I remember we were discussing how sometime during one of the arcs Pearl may be reunited with her mother and, because mother can do no wrong, will help Morgan collect the Magatamas, thinking that it'll be for the greater good.

But if we were to explore this idea, how would Pearl meet up with Morgan. Remember that Morgan thinks that Pearl could be possibly dead, and Pearl thinks her mother is completely dead after the destruction. Could Gant possibly play a role in this meet-up?

It's possible, just a few things may need tweaking. Well, from what I understand, Mime seems to be the key connection between Pearl and Morgan after The Destruction of Kurain Village. Maybe there is a way to have Gant intercept Mimi's spywork on Pearl for Morgan and "fiddle" with it. Like indirectly turning Mimi into agent for his own needs somehow. Just throwing the idea out there.
