Urgh, Amazon has massive delay.. about a month. I cancelled and I'll get it in the gameshop tomorrow

Edit: Argh, one of our shops says that it is not released yet and that it will be released 10-10. Gah.

Re: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations released in the EU!
You see, this is why I imported. Any game that becomes a GAME exclusive will become impossible to find and have stupidly low stock. It's a shame really. That means that the sales figures will reflect badly on European demand for it and Europe will be seen as a lower priority market for releasing games like GS5 or Gyakuten Kenji.

That'd be very stupid, it was their fault in the first place that they delayed TaT by an entire year.

That doesn't sound like much of an insult compared to Mr. Trite (in the English language version).

What stopped them from releasing it at the same time as the US is a better question. Not like anyone here needs European languages. 1 December? Why?

..and I'll probably end up buying another copy too.

Re: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations released in the EU!
Yeah.
And to go even further, I gotta say that about half of Europe plays the game in English anyway, so they could just have released TaT in the U.K (and elsewhere, too) anyway (especially since the English EU version doesn't have any other languages), and later they could have translated it to all the other languages... just how they did it with AA1.

But goddamn, usually EU and AU have roughly the same release dates (which is supposed to be 2-3 months, not a year after the U.S release), so why wait 2 more moths? They already have the game, is it really that hard to send some of the copies to Australia?

We are sure to hear both of them same pronunciations.

I forgot about that. Still, it doesn't make much sense to me for the Spanish version. I know some Spanish, but that knowledge is not helping understand how that is an insult (other than getting his name wrong). At least Trite is a bad thing.

...That's mostly true, but for some reason, Australia hates AA.
AA came out in March 06 for Europe...geuss when it came out in Australia? January 07. The second...September 07...Apollo Justice...April/May 08.
It's a little lighter, but the game has about 18 months to come out after it came out in the US at one stage.
Ah well, The wait makes things sweeter.

Wow... I had pretty much forgotten that T&T hadn't technically been released down here either (I bought a US version from Shin Tokyo almost a year ago, and did the same for AJ).
Although, I'm quite tempted to buy them again orbyothermeanscoughcough, because the typos really annoyed me, and I'd like to the the Brittish localisations.
That, and "Benjamin Hunter's" French 'objection' makes me very happy. Almost enough to start studying French properly again. :edgy: And the German vers. means I can make my friend play by telling her it'll help with both her German and Law studies... :keiko:

Maybe it's supposed to imply he's... a "light"-weight? Or something?

maru = circle, but "Maruhodou" doesn't have the special meaning.
Japanese fans don't understand the origin well either.
There is not the official explanation from Capcom.
But "Maruhodou" has a foolish sound as Japanese :godot:

Also... the location "Tender Lender"... in Spanish is "El buen prestamista"... I think the translation of that it's "The good/great lender"... :shoe:

Also... if I don't remember bad... the evidence "Coldkiller X" in Spanish is "Sincatarrín X"... being "sin" the word "without" and "catarrín" the word "little/small cold"...

In German it is Hustenkiller X, which means Coughkiller. Because the right translation for "cold" = "Erkältung" would be too long, I think. "Erkältungskiller X", hmm, it sounds a bit weird, too.
Killer isn't translated because it's a loanword.

Careful, keep in mind that there are 2 or 3 european versions of AA3: one with French and German, and the others must be Spanish and Italian, and I guess English is alone. If I'm not wrong, then that would be the same thing that happened with AA4 — so if you want to study French or German playing AA3, you'll have to order the game from France or Germany, or in a place where you can be sure that you'll have the game in the good language.

RadioShadow wrote:
Mia's French voice is FANTASTIC! That is the sort of voice I expect to hear from Mia. A lot better than her 'Ubjection' English voice.

Weird thing: her French voice is almost the same as I imagined it. Though, I don't say the voice is great, but I still find it okay. But her "Un instant !" and "Prends ça !" don't sound really convincing.

Anyway, I'm still on the first case (don't have much time), so here are the first elements:
Quote:
AA3-1 - Souvenirs et Volte-face

Names:
Doug Swallow - Patrick Hauméot
Dahlia Hawthorn - Dahlia Plantule
(Diego Armando - Unchanged.)

I don't really know what "Patrick Hauméot" is supposed to sound like. But the "Hauméot" made me think about "Oh mais ho !", an interjection that's supposed to tell to someone that you don't agree with him, like "You're crazy?!". But I'm not sure someone who don't know the English or Japanese name would make the connection with the case.
"Plantule" translates to "seedling". I don't think there are more explanations needed.

Nicknames, locations, stuff...:
"Mr. Wry" - "M. White" (OH THE IRONY! XD)
Dollie - Unchanged.
Feenie - Unchanged.
Ivy. U - Henri Baucout (I've already said it in the AA4 section)
Killer X - Pludrum X (Like "Plus de rhume", "No more cold".)

And that's all for now. But I have a... predection, about Jean Armstrong... I'm pretty sure he'll be Italian in the French version, because we always did it this way in cartoons (Pépé le pew...), or TV shows (even when that's going to contradict all the French flags showed, etc.). (I guess that's because of a closer culture, while it's still different.)

And a new update. Tender Lender is called NettKredit in the German version.
That means "nice loan/credit".
The boxer from the sports magazine is called "Aiermit Muckis" which means Eier mit Muckies (Muskeln) = balls with muscles. :godot:

I forgot his english name, however.

Wow, I took way too long to update.

(Un?)fortunately, there are no differences between the US version and UK version of 3-3, so you've been waiting around for nothing. Ho-hum.

I'm working on 3-4 now and I'll update again when the case has been cleared.

I guess we'll have to hope for differences in the other versions. I'm interested to see the French version of that case.

Re: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations released in the EU!
I've just played AA3 (in French, because the English language isn't on the cartridge sold in France :sadshoe: ), and here are a few things to add in your post about the French translation.

Puns in character names :
  • Doug Swallow -> Patrick Hauméot (read last name before : it sounds like "Homéopathique", which means "homeopathic")
  • Terry Fawles -> Régis Florimet (read last name before : sounds like "Fleury-Mérogis", a French commune, near Paris, hosting a prison)
  • Ron DeLite -> Henri Duplaisir ("Du plaisir" means "Pleasure")
  • Desirée DeLite -> Désirée Duplaisir (same as above)
  • Luke Atmey -> Matt Moissat (Sounds like "Mate-moi ça !", which usually means "Look at that" when you show something you're proud of)
  • Glen Elg -> Marc Ram (A palindrome too; Ram may be a reference to Random Access Memory : he's a programmer, after all ^^)

And the most important change : In the French version, "Très Bien" becomes an Italian restaurant named "Bellissima"; The chef is no longer named "Jean Armstrong" but "Luigi Labocca" instead; La Bocca means "the mouth" in Italian :phoenix:

In fact, I've PMed all this to Croik so that she updates the characters section with the French names and puns when she can :edgy:

Updating again with the new additions and info. This is yet another case with no significant edits and plenty of intact script errors. Ho-hum.

3-5 is last and the longest case, so at the rate I'm going through the game this time I think it'll be a while before the next update. :(

By the way, there was also some other namechange... I guess you told Croik about them, but I just wanted to add some details. I was going to make a post with all the "new" characters, but since you did it... well yeah. That's why I didn't cut some names. Just take that list as a sum up.

Quote:
AA 3-2 - La volte-face volée

Characters:
Mask*DeMasque - Unchanged.
Luke Atmey - Matt Moissat (lolwut?)
Ron DeLite - Henri Duplaisir
Desirée DeLite - Désirée Duplaisir (Yeah, accents.)
Godot - Unchanged.
Kane Bullard - Ken Bullard

Expressions, nicknames, etc.:
Zvarri! - Unchanged.
Ace (whatever) - As des...
Dessy - Désie
Ronny (If I'm not wrong) - Riton (XD)
Nicky Boy - Nicky Baby (XD²)
"Trite" - "Light" (Buh...)

Locations:
(the place where the Kurain expo was done) - Les Galeries de France
KB Security - KB Sécurité

BTW, I find "Matt Moissat" not as effective as the English name IMO, but whatever, I don't pretend being able to find something better. :p

AA 3-3 - Recette de volte-face

Characters:
Jean Armstrong - Luigi Labocca (Ha! Told ya!)
Glen Elg - Marc Ram
Lisa Basil - Unchanged.
Victor Kudo - Unchanged.
Furio Tigre - Unchanged.
Viola Cadaverini - Violette Cadaverini
Bruto Cadaverini - Unchanged.

Expressions, nicknames, etc.:
MC Bomber - Unchanged.

Locations:
Tender Lender - Sandouille-Crédit (lolwut) — "Sandouille" sounds like "Andouille"; if someone call you "andouille", then congratulation, he's calling you moron. :p
Blue Screens S.A. - Unchanged.
Vitamin Square - "Le parc des vitamines"

Name explanations:
Luigi Labocca: Yeah, he became Italian — as I said, that's what we always did. I used an automatic translator, and "La bocca" translates to "(the) mouth". One funny thing: "Luigi" is the italian "version" of "Louis" of "Louie". Take this name and the English surname and... well, yeah, you get it. But it has absolutely nothing to do with the character.
Marc Ram: Palindrome, again. But one more thing: "Ram", like computer RAM. Yup.
Violette Cadaverini: I guess they changed the first name because it sounded... inappropriated. "Viola" in French is the Simple Past form of "Violer", which mean... "rape". Yes, "rape". So... yeah.
Or maybe they just wanted to make something more comon lol

AA 3-4 - La volte-face initiale

Characters:
Terry Fawles - Régis Florimet
Melissa Foster - Unchanged.
Valerie Hawthorne - Valérie Plantule
(Yeah, you may forget accents, but... you shouldn't. :p )

Locations:
Eagle River - Rivière Aigle

Name explanations:
Régis Florimet: See Unas' post.

AA 3-5 - Le pont des volte-face

Characters:
Bikini - Unchanged.
Elise Deauxnim - Unchanged.
Iris - Unchanged.

Locations:
Hazakura - Unchanged.

And that's it. Looks like there's a lot of characters that share the same name in the French version of AA... Two Matt (Engarde and Moissat); two Ken (Kitaki and Bullard); two Henri (Hunter and Duplaisir) and two Victor (Boulay and Kudo). And I'm not counting our three-and-a-half Paul (Defès, Aforme and Meraktis, plus "Pierre-Paul Jacques" (Galactica)).

  • Interestingly, that means there was also no editting out of the blood in this case.

Eh? When did they edit out the blood before? :udgy:
