Ah, my favourite anime and my favourite game. Literally made of WIN/WIN.
Thanks very much

Well I've finished another one now. I was going to put it up as a seperate topic but I think I should rename this one and just put them all on here, with links at the top. Well here it is without further ado, a review of one of my favourite animes Pani Poni Dash:

So when’s this “professional” going to get here to teach us how to be better reviewers?

Should be any minute now.

All the cases I could be attending to right now… but NO I have to attend this stupid class!

Oh shut up and enjoy yourself Edgeworth.

*sigh* So who is this person who will be teaching us?

She’s apparently a professional when it comes to reviewing.

Oh, it’s a woman ey?

Don’t. Even. Think about it!

Oh come on! I wasn’t going to do anything!
*door opens and in walks Pearl*

Oh hey Pearls. What are you doing here?

I am going to be teaching the three of you about reviewing.

Wait! You mean YOU’RE our teacher?!

Yes I am.

Oh…

We’re going to be taught by a child?

Don’t misjudge me Mr. Edgeworth!

Pearls is a smart kid. But I didn’t think she’d know anything about reviewing.

May I please start the class Mr. Nick?

Wright! Find us a way out of this!

Okay, I will.

Now the first thing you want to do is…

Oh would you look at that! Sorry Pearls but we have to go! We have a review to do! See ya later!

We do?

Come on Larry… *grabs Larry buy the collar and pulls him out of the classroom*

Hey! Get back here! Don’t misjudge me! I’M THE TEACHER!!!
*the end of the Pani Poni Dash opening plays*

Okay, so today we’ll be reviewing Pani Poni Dash.

And I’ve actually seen it this time!

What do you want? A parade?

That would be nice.

Anyway, this is by far one of the most random animes I’ve ever seen.

True dat! Nothing makes sense in this anime.

But at the same time it does.

I love shows that do that.

It focuses around a high school called Peach Moon Academy and the crazy antics that take place within four of the classrooms there.

The mishaps can range from something simple, such as a student having a crisis, to an entire class being zapped into the dream of one of its students.

But there’s no overall plot is there?

Well not exactly… like with Azumanga Daioh there’s no overall plot, except in the last few episodes. Most of the time something completely random happens and it’s up to the main character to deal with it.

It’s also overloaded with pop-culture references.

Yeah, but we can’t really complain about that can we?

I wasn’t complaining.

But he’s right. There’s tons of references to anime, manga, gaming, Internet stuff, and much more.

Wasn’t there a reference to our games in one of the episodes.

I think so… I don’t quite remember, but I wouldn’t put it past them.

But it’s because of that, that I don’t think this plot’s for everyone.

It’s more or less made for Otakus isn’t it?

Yes.

At the end of the day those are the only people who can really enjoy it and stay with it long-time. However you might enjoy it if you’re not an “otaku”, but will be confused by the references.

It’s worth checking out at the very least. The plots within the episodes are very funny.

But whatever you do, DO NOT try and make sense of anything that’s going on! Just sit back and enjoy.

If you ignore the references it’s actually something that a lot of people could enjoy.

And there’s LOTS of fan-service!

I was hoping we could avoid that topic…

Let’s move onto characters.

NO! I want to talk about the fan-service!

Larry, shut up!

There’s a huge cast of characters this time around. It would take way too long to go through them one by one, so we’re going to focus on the main characters in classroom 1-C.

The main character is Rebecca Miyamoto. She’s a eleven-year-old, half-American, half-Japanese prodigy.

She’s a freaking genius!

Indeed. She was the youngest graduate at MIT University. She’s the teacher of classroom 1-C.

Despite being only eleven-years-old she despises being treated like a child and insists on being treated like a teacher and the genius that she is.

However she still retains child-like qualities. Whenever something scares her she’ll start to weep and hide behind a curtain. She also has quite a fondness of sweets.

…

…

What?!

Who are you and what have you done with Larry?

WHAT?! Can’t I be smart once in a while?!

Anyway. She’s an extremely adorable character. I would say she’s on Chiyo’s level, if it weren’t for her short temper.

Yeah, she gets mad pretty quick.

One thing I don’t like is how they don’t only try and portray Rebecca as cute… but also as sexy…

I KNOW! That’s just… wrong!

She’s supposed to be eleven and yet they try and portray her as sexy!

Oh come now! You two are over-reacting. Surely it’s not THAT bad…

MY EYES! MY EYES!!!

Told ya.

I think we scarred him for life Nick.

That’s nothing new to Edgeworth.

Next there’s Himeko. She’s the hyper-active lesbian of the class.

Well… it’s never actually said whether she’s a lesbian or not…

Come on Nick! You’ve seen the way she acts around Becky and Rei!

Well… at the very least I think she’s bi.

Fine then…

It’s as Larry says: She’s the hyper-active member of the class. She annoys everyone with how active she is. She asks them random questions all the time, and never says anything intelligent.

She’s obsessed with Becky. She’s constantly hugging her saying how cute she is. On one occasion she even tried to kiss her… on the lips…

She refers to everything she feels strongly about as “Omega”, for example calling Rebecca “Omega cute”. As well as saying “maho” all the time.

She has a magic cowlick.

Yes. She has a magical cowlick which moves on it’s own that seems to be the source of her limitless energy. This is made clear when Rebecca pulls it out in the third episode and she loses all her energy.

I like to call that her zombie mode.

Himeko’s a great character and is usually one of the causes for the comedy in the scenes.

Who next?

Rei?

Oh yes! *drools*

…

Don’t look at me like that Nick!

Well anyway, Rei Tachibana is basically the bully character. She’s usually the one who enforces some kind of law within the classroom… mostly by threatening bodly harm to her classmates.

She’s usually the one to teach Rebecky moral lessons and to put her in her place when she acts… unteacherly… if that’s a word…

Did you just call Rebecca “Rebecky”?

It’s my name for her.

O… kay… Back onto Rei… She’s definatly the most mature out of Becky’s students. Asides from Becky herself she’s kind of a leader character. But in all honesty I don’t like her that much.

I do.

That’s only because she’s attractive.

N-no! I-I happen to think s-she’s a great character!

Yeah… okay… Now Ichijo. She’s the-
Ichijo: Are you talking about me?

*little girl scream*

Ah! Where did you come from?!
Ichijo: Why is that man crying on the floor?
*everyone looks down at Edgeworth*

*rolling around on the floor, with his hands over his eyes* My eyes… my eyes… my eyes…

He had a bit of a scare… But anyway, where did you come from?
Ichijo: I came from Peach Moon Academy.

O… kay…

What are you doing here?
Ichijo: I came to where I heard my name mentioned.

R-right…
Ichijo: Now I must take my leave. *flies off*

Well I think that in itself explains Ichijo.

Y-yeah…

She’s usually the cause of the trouble classroom 1-C gets into.

Let’s never speak of this again, agreed?

Agreed.

Now Miyako Uehara. She’s the “study bug” character.

Although she detests that name.

Asides from Rei, she’s the most serious character. She prefers to study rather then do anything else. The other students usually have to force her to get involved with the crazy antics that they get into.

Wow… you’re doing a pretty good job with reviewing today Larry.

And her forehead is freaking massive!

I knew it was too good to be true.

She kinda reminds me of Edgey when we were in school together.

Ain’t that the truth.

I heard that!

Oh, you’re back with us then.

*ahem* I was just shocked that they would do something so… discusting…

You sounded more then just “shocked”.

Shut up!

Well let’s keep going. You pick it up Edgeworth.

*picks up character profile sheet* Hmm… let’s see here… it says next is Kurumi Momose.

Oh, do we really have to say anything about her? She’s too boring to comment on.

He’s got a point. Read the next one along Edgeworth.
Kurumi: *sob* I’m just a plain, normal, nothing girl…

What was that?

Probably just the wind.

Next is: Sayaka Suzuki or “Rokugō” as she is nicknamed. She’s the “good girl” character. She’s very sweet and caring and willing to help others, although people often take advantage of her for that.

Hmmm…

If you’re thinking what I think you’re thinking I’ll cut you!

!!! Sorry Nick…

That was a tad violent for you Wright.

Anyway… Like Himeko she has a catchphrase. Her’s is saying something is “-of the year”, for example calling Becky “teacher of the year”.

She’s a nice enough character. I like her.

*gets doodle-pad ready*

If you’re thinking of drawing what I think you’re thinking of drawing I’ll cut you!

… Everybody hates me…

Finally there’s Mesousa. He’s a talking rabbit.

Which just goes to show you how random this anime is.

He’s supposed to be a parady of the cute mascot characters you see in anime.

The difference is that Masousa suffers from a severe case of depression.

You could label him as “emo”.

…

…

Why are you both looking at me?

*ahem* Masousa is usually the victim of the slapstick comedy in the anime, hence why he’s so depressed. He also lacks thumbs which makes holding things nearly impossible for him, furthering his depression.

Poor bunny. I want to give him a hug.

Masousa also seems to be a bit of a “closet pervert” at times, this is hinted at when he’s asked to judge a fashion show in one of the episodes.

…

…

Why’s everyone looking at me now?!

We found your magazines Nick.

W-what?! Those weren’t mine!

They were in your appartment.

I-I’ve never seen them before!

Then why are you sweating so much?

Well they can’t have been Maya’s or Pearl’s.

They could have been something Larry hid there!

I don’t hide mine dude.

Well anyway-

They’re not mine!

Shut up! Anyway, that’s it for the main characters, however there are many other interesting characters in the series. There’s a huge cast of colourful characters that you’ll just love.

Like Behomi! *drool*

*sigh* Why did I even become friends with you?

What are you doing Larry?

Err… Not looking for Behomi hentai on deviantART that’s for sure!

Er… right… we’re going to stand over here now…

Don’t judge me!

Now music.

Well I think we’ll just be repeating what we said in the Azumanga Daioh review.

True. Same deal: Like it, but not going to rush out to buy the soundtrack.

Now voice acting. Personally I think it’s really good but-

Edgeworth wait!

-I think Miyako’s voice could be better.
???: WHAT?!

What was that?!

Outside! There’s a huge crowd with tourches and pitchforks!

It’s the weeaboos! You insulted the original Japanese version Edgeworth! You fool!

Oh for crying out loud! This is foolish.

*leans out window* Japan’s not perfect! Not all the voices in the original Japanese version or perfect! Japan isn’t the greatest country in the… *gets lasooed around the neck and pulled down*

O_O

I’m going to miss Edgey.

N-now dubbing?

I thought it was pretty good.

Yes. But there is room for improvement, which is a shame to say because it was dubbed by the same people who did the great Azumanga Daioh dub.

The first thing that could have been better is Rebecky’s voice.

Though I’ll admit that Rebecca’s childlike, almost baby-like, voice would be nearly impossible to immatate in an English dub.

Yeah, unless they could somehow cram a dictionary into a baby’s brain, I don’t think it’s one that can be immatated.

It’s pretty good, but I don’t see why they couldn’t have used the same person who did Chiyo’s dub voice in the Azumanga Daioh dub, because she did a pretty cute voice.

Himeko’s could have been better.

Yes, but to be fair I thought it was pretty good in the early episodes.

But then it just got annoying.

But again, Himeko’s cute voice would be nearly impossible to immatate in an English dub.

Yeah, but they could have done better.

Rei’s is okay. But could sound a bit more… mature.

Miyako’s was the only one I really had a problem with.

Yes! Her dub actress needs to learn to act! I can’t believe a company that did such a good job with the Azumanga Daioh dub could mess up this badly!

The rest were good though.

Yeah.

Overall I’d give this one a 7 out of 10. I liked it but I didn’t get most of the refferences.

I’d give it around the same score. Give it a chance. If you’re an otaku who likes random animes you’ll just love this series. If not but you can ignore the refferences, then it can be quite enjoyable for everyone.

*climbs in through window wearing nothing but his cravat, body badly scarred* Why… *huff* do they… *huff* love Japan so much?

W-what happened down there?!
*Edgeworth’s fangirls squeal*

That’s right my pretties! Now get them! KILL! KILL!
*Edgeworth fangirls charge weeaboo army*

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Er… wanna go get coffee Nick?

Sure, why not?
