Hello. Newbie here. Since discovering this site, I've seen some pretty spectacular sprites spliced together by uberly talented people, so I thought I'd make an account and join in the fun. Sorry if I'm a little slow updating. Some of my deviantART buds would agree that my posting time is sporadic...at best. :adrian-crunch: Suggestions for sprite improvement would be appreciated. Please do not use these without my permission.
Oh, just fyi, I have saved the sprites separately from the backgrounds. I just thought, you know, the characters would look better with backgrounds. :phoenix:

Canon Characters

Spoiler: Obligatory older Pearl
Image
I'm trying to write a couple of fanfics for a possible AJ2 and a AJ3, so of course I had to start with making Pearl look older. I made her hair darker as, in the cases of most little kids, their hair turns darker when the get older. I tried to add text in order to create more of an authentic effect, but I can't figure out how to make a transparent text box. :yuusaku:
Used Iris for the face, Pearl for the hair and ears, Ema for extra hair, and Maya for the body base. Also reused Pearl's color scheme
.

Spoiler: Um...Armstrong?
Image
Don't ask. I don't know why I did this either. :payne: Maybe I'll erase the white some other time, but I don't really feel like it now.
Head from Armstrong, of course. Body from Mia.

Original Characters

Spoiler: Karen Trauer
Image
For my first attempt at an OC, I'm pretty pleased with myself. When I first cobbled her hair together, I truly realized why they call 'em "frankensprites". :gant: As for Karen herself, I tried to give her the timid, run-for-the-hills-at-the-snap-of-a-twig kind of look. I'm currently wondering how to write about her in my fanfic without making her sound too much like a Mary Sue. :yuusaku:
Anywho, I used Vera's face, Adrian's body, and...let's see...Vera, Adrian, Angel, and Viola for the hair. The jacket I made on my own.

Spoiler: Avy
Image
Basically made for my profile picture. I know, I know, I shamelessly neglected editing Maggey's uniform. I have no excuse but my own laziness. I do like how the hair came out, though.

Hair: Vera, Viola, Maya
Face and Body: Maggey

Oh shoot, I'm always used to saving images as JPGs. Can you tell me why it's better to save sprites as PNGs? And thanks!

If I remember correctly, it is because JPEG breaks the monochromatic lines to give that perfect picture which is bad in sprites because every line, or rather pixel, is needed.

I can't really explain it properly but jpeg REALLY cocks up images. With sprites, because pixels have to be specific, it's better to save as png because it keeps it looking exactly how you left it, whereas a jpeg looks at it and goes "hmm, I think I'll add some of my own shit to this" and it ends up looking a bit... blurry? Or messy?

Just at a glance you can tell which sprites people have saved as jpeg D=

.... I'm hoping someone else can explain it better XD

EDIT: Dammit Tap just had to sneak by me. But yeah, what he said.

It's a cute, older Pearly. :pearl:

Though it would look better as a .png, but still, cute. :pearl-blush: :pearly:

I really like your older Pearls, good work at spriting , it looksgood , but it would be a good idea to save the sprite alone as .png who knows . maybe youll need it later for something else

Actually, I did save the actual Pearl sprite separately; I just thought it would look better if there was something behind her. (Although I did fail to initially save it as a png. :sadshoe: ) Thank you for your advice.

Update! I made it mostly for my avatar, but, oh well, I'm proud of it.
