I almost didn't see the emotion/expression sketches on the side--maybe cranking up the contrast in the background or making them a different color other than white would make it easier to see.
It's a little hard to see your character against the background as well, if only due to the lineless shading--coloring in that sort of style is pretty hard, though, so maybe take a look at chamba's color work to see how he colors w/just shapes and contrasting colors.
