Hey everyone!

I'm putting together a Phoenix costume that I really hope I can have together by Anime Expo, which is in just a few weeks from now. I have a suit picked out and some good ideas for nearly every aspect of the costume except for his crazy hair.

I've never styled a wig before, so I am not all that confident I would be able to make one myself, unless some incredibly kind person with wig styling experience would lend some of their knowledge and ideas on how I would properly represent Phoenix's peculiar, almost jagged looking hairline and, of course, his signature spikes.

On the subject of his weird hairline, it almost looks like he has a few widow's peaks at the very points where the spikes start on the front of his head, if that makes sense.

Spoiler: Here's an example!

I've actually only ever seen one Phoenix Cosplayer style his hairline on their wig, although I have no clue what they must have done to accomplish that. It looks great, in my opinion! Example below:

I'm not sure if this is what they did, but someone once told me that this could be accomplished by sewing wefts onto the wig. What do you think about that?

As far as the spikes go, I've seen them represented in all sorts of ways on different Phoenix cosplayers' wigs. It seems like it would be so tough to get them looking natural on a person while still looking like Phoenix! After doing some research, I managed to find what I consider to be the best looking spikes on a Phoenix wig:

Spoiler: Kreischi from deviantart

They're big and refined, yet not too huge or silly looking. I wonder if there is some way I could achieve that same look on a wig while also styling his hairline?

Please, if anyone has any advice at all, it would be extremely appreciated! Thank you so much for your time. :phoenix:

For the willows peak, I suggest searching online. Many people have the same questions and there are some very experienced people online. Many of them do tutorials and such. I found this http://www.cosplay.com/archive/index.php/t-124617.html while searching. Hope that'll help.

As for the spikes, what some people do is spike it sideways. Kind of like what this person did here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NvnB0JTXec If you use gravity to help you, the spikes will turn out straighter and neater (hopefully).

I remember when I styled my first wig, I had to redo it many times so make sure you have a lot of time before you start! Also, don't forget the hairspray and some hair glue as well. If you put some hair glue at the tips, it will make it a lot more pointy and neat.

Good luck!
