I don't really have the time or patience to keep making this comic. I'm sorry to anyone who really enjoyed it and was looking forward to more, but I've got too many things on my plate now and after all, it was just a fancomic.

The spoiler tags are up to save on room. There's a link list provided at the bottom for those who have wonky connections.

Spoiler: The Ending
Well as was revealed Mari is trying to get an appeal on the supposed dragon in jail. She was fairly close to succeeding, hence the need to shut her up until the execution. So far it's being assumed that the dragon is the one responsible. This, however, is not entirely the case. Yes, the true dragon would want her to stay silent, but the poisoning was nothing more than a happy coincidence.

Years ago, before Mari got her badge her mentor took an important case. The brother of the teashop owner was being accused of shady dealings and it was soon revealed that he was the dragon. This was not at all true, but with Manfred von Karma as the prosecution truth does not always matter. He got his guilty and Marilyn has been trying to get the result appealed since she got her badge.
However, she made one enemy in all of this. You see, it was due to an oversight that was placed on Marilyn's shoulders that von Karma got his verdict. A piece of evidence that she hadn't filed that morning. She had no way of knowing that evidence even existed, but has never let herself live it down. Neither has the brother of Naga Yamada. You see, his business is in shambles because of her. Naga Yamada was the one that was good with numbers his brother simply made the tea. Now Sara is totally innocent in all of this. She has learned to make the tea herself, but her father always insisted on making Ms. Grants to show her he didn't blame her for what happened to his brother. He would smile and lie through his teeth every time she came in. He had no intention of killing Ms. Grant he only wanted to ruin her career by slowly degenerating her mind. It was a simple mistake on his part that morning and he added too much to her tea that day causing her hallucinations and hence the discovery of what he was doing.

Little did he know that it wasn't actually a slip of the hand, but a deliberate tainting of the special tea Marilyn always ordered before he even got it. We were to find out at the end that it was her sister that had this done. She has fallen in love with the dragon's son and was willing to kill her sister in order to gain his favor and allow them to be married. Of course she was never actually going to kill her, but if she could shut her up long enough and look as if she put in a real effort then maybe this would be enough. Gwen, of course, ends up getting arrested along with Sara's father. To make it up to her Gwen confesses to another crime from the past when she first met the dragon's son and helped frame Naga Yamada. It's unclear as to whether or not this is actually true.

The teashop ends up being run by Sara and her newly released uncle. As a show of faith and good will Marilyn still goes to that shop.

Nope, nothing funny about this one. I've nearly got the fictionalization done too. Or at least caught up to where the comic is.

Wow! Those are very nice! I loved the story too. What program did you use to make each of the frames in? You did a fabulous job recoloring the sprites and editing them to make original characters. I can't wait to see the courtroom scenes! So, as you know, I'll be watching this one...
Thank you for reading. I hope you have a wonderful day.

I need to get to work on a completed case maker. Afterwards I can go back to my sprite creations(READ: NOT recolors!) and other stuffs.

It's almost shameful to think I'm waiting on someone for once. :sadshoe:

On an almost related note, good sprite comic. It almost makes me want to start writing new scripts again. :jake:

Only minor things I don't like about your characters. Ms. Grant appears to be a defense attorney but walks about like she owns the place...In other words, the will of a prosecutor. I'm certain that's what you meant by rogue but that kind of behavior can make a situation go sour if something doesn't go right. You may want to think about your story scripts very carefully or you'll be making contradictions so big that the reader will be going...."What?" :lana:

Also, Brian seems to be more like a famous thief rather than a spirit medium. One that I will not name. :nick:

Otherwise damn good. ♥

Thanks guys. Means a lot to get good responses on something I'm working fairly hard on.

I'm not an artist, so recolors and edits are all I can really do, but if anyone wants to make some of my original characters for me I'd happily accept!

Ugh, I could never get Case Maker to work. The comic was originally supposed to be on it.

And you know you're doing something right when you inspire other people to make something! Yay!

Oh, and page 16 is up.

EDIT: Yeah, Ms. Grant's attitude is going to backfire on her in many occasions, including this one. She'll learn from her mistakes, don't worry.

EDIT Take Two: Ack! I didn't answer you're question, Slezak! I use a combination of GiMP and Paint. I could do the whole thing in GiMP, but I grew up on Paint so I'm more comfortable with it in certain cases.

Hmm... I like the plot, and your Brian sprite is amazing... the others are recolors, but don't seem too important, but... I have to admit I felt... rather unimpressed at Grant's sprite =/ Maybe it's just the poses I've seen so far, but it doesn't seem nearly as... unique as Brian >_>;;

Otherwise, I'm very impressed :3

Oh wow, a good, non cliche or 'funny' sprite comic. The sprites are very, very good, as well- loving Brian. Interesting so far. I'll keep an eye on this.

Hmmm, maybe I should give Brian a spin off.

Joking. Yes, Ms. Grant is very unimpressive. However I just don't have that many options for editing when it comes to female attorneys. Ms. Grant's sister will be just as unimpressive I'm afraid.

Anyone willing to help me out with this dilemma will be promptly e-hugged and thanked.

Pages 20 and 21 up. We're getting close to the end of the story arch now and I just want to thank everyone who's stuck with me so far. The next comics will be a bit of christmas fun and filler. I need a little break from plot heaviness after this. Thanks again for all the nice words and I'll continue to do my best to keep you all entertained!

I think I have an idea for Ms. Grant it's not much, but it would make her much more striking.

First, put the rest of the muffler in front of her, instead of hanging behind her.

Second, either shorten or lengthen the bangs considerably, so that she looks well... less Mia-y... just a little, those two things will draw more attention to the changes you've already made and make the sprite, imo, look much better.

I'd try to do these things myself... but the result was not pleasant when I attempted it.

Oh, also consider a less bright color for the muffler, just personal preference, there though.

Once again, I like the comic and I'm not trying to be mean or hyper-critical or something.

Those are good ideas and I think Marilyn is due for a haircut. I could certainly try the muffler in the front, the color, however, has a plot purpose to it. You'll get to see why in the christmas fluff.
I don't think you're being critical at all. I welcome all suggestions and ideas. After all, if you didn't like it you wouldn't suggest anything to make it better.

EDIT: I also considered having her wear her hair up instead of down. This would take a bit of work on my part, but might be worth it for a major change.

Pages 22-25 are up and that concludes our trail! Now all I need is to tie up some loose ends for the end. Is there anything anyone would like explained?

I don't suggest putting the hair up, mainly because she's supposed to parallel Mia and Lana, who both wear their hair down.

I just have one question left: How exactly did Scarlet get Brian shot... and is the poor guy gonna be okay?

On the hair, perhaps wearing it down but just touching her shoulder or something? Not too huge an edit but would help distinguish her.

You can expect all your answers in the next and last page of the arch. (Maybe two pages)

EDIT: One of the surprising things I found out about Mr. Payne is that he is actually a competent prosecutor (he's called the rookie crusher for a reason) but we've only met him in the game going against Phoenix Wright, who obviously couldn't lose for the game to continue. He gets to give Mr. Wright a run for his money in the manga.

Also, I've redone Ms. Grant!

Spoiler: If you want to see it then click.
Image
I realize it's missing some poses. I just couldn't get the hair to look right for them.

For those of you who want to be surprised then just wait for the big unveiling in the christmas fluff.

I'm also somewhat proud of how Gwen is turning out.

Spoiler: Click to see Gwen.

This is by no means the final version. I plan to do a lot of heavy editing to the outfit.

Thanks for reading and caring enough to comment! Your attention fuels my creativity.

That looks much better, I think fixing the hair really helped make the other edits more obvious, and therefore the whole think look like much less of a Mia-clone.

Gee, thanks, pal! I should have the chapter cap up by the end of the night. I just got back from playing Rockband for two days in a row. My vocal cords are shot up all to hades, but it was worth it.

EDIT: [Response to Death's Edit] Hrr? Did I use a term wrong? It should be baseless conjecture in the comic. Hmmm, I should go look at that.

EDIT Take 2: Oooooh, yeah that's redundant huh? You think I should leave it? He seems like the kind of guy to repeat himself in the same sentence to me.

Eh heh, thanks. Pages 26 and 27 are up now that that concludes our first chapter. Up next is the Christmas fluff. We'll get to meet family, talk to some canon characters, people will get makeovers, AND have a jolly ol' christmas. Yay!
Expect lots of new sprite edits from me too!

EDIT: Threw up the first christmas fluff while I was at it. Not the topest notch in quality, but I can polish it when I can actually see the computer screen again.

Hey... there's something here that I don't follow

"Then why did you act so surprised when I claimed you didn't"

what is that line referring to? I've reread the case several times, and I can't find where Scarlet was surprised and Grant was claiming her innocence.

Oh! That's a typo. That should be 'so surprised when he claimed you didn't'. My bad. I'll get to fixing that.

*two seconds later* There ya go, Mr. Gunner! Thanks for the heads up. I'm really bad to not catch my own typos. Don't be afraid to point out any others you might come across. Or inconsistencies in the script for that matter.

Pages 29-31 of the christmas fluff is now up. Yay! The next one may or may not be slow coming since I'm still working on the sprite for it.

EDIT: 32 and 33 are up now too. Now I've got to play the game again to get the feel for AA Edgeworth.

She cut it into strips a while back. One for each day of the week. That way it doesn't get funky.

EDIT: Whoa, Gwen has magic color shifting gloves! ...let me just fix that...

Well I've got page 34 up. Not sure if I'll get any more up lately. I'm working on a new OC sprite.

Well, page 36 is up. I wish there was a better way to announce more pages than having to post in my own thread. Ah well, maybe one day I'll get enough people reading and commenting that it won't look so bad.

Tell me which location the house came from or no compliments for you.

I like it so far. DO you mind telling me how you made that outside house location?

I was wondering if someone was going to ask me that. I got it from http://sdb.drshnaps.com/BackgroundsOther.htm my good man. I sifted through all the different backgrounds to find some that suited the PW art style. That one in particular I got from Zatch Bell: Electric Arena.
