I know many lawyers since my husband is one. :) I also know the D.A. for Franklin County (he's a super guy with a GREAT sense of humour), a former Prosecutor, a Probate Judge and a District Judge.

Well, lots of people have lawyers...not just for criminal offences...I mean, divorce, wills, that sort of stuff needs a lawyer to make it official, right?? Divorce being the most common, besides corporate contracts...but I hope that's not the case for you...
Well, yeah, real court obviously have more restrictions than the games, but sometimes there's flexibility too. As for being interesting or not, I guess that greatly depends on who you are and what role you play in being in court. If you're the defendant, then it is VERY interesting. If you're the victim, it's also crucial...family, friends, or relatives of either side...crucial, more or less, depending on relation. May I ask what you were doing in court (if it's too personal, just tell me you can't say, it's ok)?
Most people don't actually go to observe court proceedings for entertainment's sake...well, I went because it was a field trip for class, we were studying intro law. Some cases were interesting, others, less so.

Well, as for the real thing, there are definitely a lot of differences, probably a lot more complicated. BUt do not worry! Lawyers usually work in at least pairs (regardless of whether you are a prosecutor or a defense lawyer), and one of them is the lead lawyer, who does most of the talking.
In bigger cases, you can get up to 5 lawyers per side, though that is rare and usually happens more for appeals (in Canada anyway, I believe that's the case).

My uncle is a retired judge, and my father is a defense attorney, who has also stood in as special prosecutor as well as public defender a few times. Dad ran for District Attorney, lost, but was invited recently to run for state Supreme Court judge. Sooooo his name's on the ballot for that and thank crap I don't have to help campaign for him this time!
Yeah, my father has stories to tell, but mostly I'm only interested in fictional lawyers, lol. I've gone to mock trials a number of times, and my father would take me to his classes back when he was in law school still, and I had no interest in it.
Honestly, I'm currently looking at medicolegal forensic entomology. Hey, 27 isn't too late to switch career choices, is it?

I went on a field trip as well to study law... it was sort of boring actually. They weren't really cases, just plea bargains. Half the time I couldn't even hear what the judge was saying. Some other stuff happened, so it wasn't really cool overall.

I should show him Phoenix Wright once, I'm pretty interested how he would react. He has a good sense of humour, but he wouldn't appreciate the way the law system got changed in the game ... And I believe he doesn't yell "OBJECTION!" at the prosecutor, so that would be rather odd to him. But well, perhaps he secretly wanted to do that sometimes?

I believe there are certain branches of law where there is no true "defense" or "prosecutor" or they are basically interchangeable...
(I think matrimonial law is an exaple of this. I mean, both lawyers are trying to do the same thing...)
