If you didn't read Robert Asprin or Max Fry, you didn't read fantasy whatsoever.

I guess so, as I have never heard of either one of them (though admittedly, I don't pay attention to author names).

For the record, one of my books is fantasy, the other is sci-fi mecha. Yes, you read that right. MECHA. In a BOOK. I assure you that it is very hard to write a mecha book.

Not sure if this counts since it's not, like, a novel, but I got The Mental Floss History Of The World this morning and have been reading it. It's quite good.

Also, I was never really able to get into Artemis Fowl. Maybe I should check it out again sometime--I was, like, 8 when I first tried reading it.

I'm reading Notes of a Dirty Old Man by Mr. Charles Bukowski.

"A collection of Bukowski's weekly column in Open City, a paramour of the Free Press during the 60s Berkeley Free Speech Movement . Bukowski's columns range from acute, distanced observation to the sometimes raving, offensive diatribe against hippies, the Vietnam war, and daily living."

Fuck yeah.

I didn't enjoy this book at all- I found it much too bleak. That said, I'm not generally a fan of apocalyptic type books.

Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy Wwas the one i fished this morning.

It was alright but i think it ended too quickly and like Pleasent get's the answer out of anywhere. Slightly dissopointed i don't thin i will read the next one yet.

Anyway at the moment i am reading
The Joushua Files: Invisble City
It sounds almost like a AA game,
The guys dad is killed on a plane. But it turns out he was murdered (not a spolier they tell you that on the second page) They think it's the Dad's New girl he was cheating on the Mum with. Now josuha needs to find out Why his dad died, Was it a case of the jelous cheat. Or if he was Murdeed for somereason.

It's better because it's told by a young boy 14 point of view witch i find slightly more intriging.

For English I have to read a book called "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker.

It basically outlines the life of a young black woman during the horrific post-slavery era in the deep south where almost every man is sexist & rape occurs like clockwork. Its pretty sad, but at the same time its really tearjerking when our protagonist Celie manages to come across people that actually respect & love her. But thats not all, Celie won't stand up for herself since she believes God's belief that the husband must be respected, but the people that love her are actually independent & try to convince Celie that everyone has rights, so just stand up for yourself.

In other book news, I just finished Lisey's Story by Stephen King, which took me approximately three months to read. I'm usually a fast reader, but I've had a lot of stuff to do over the past few months...

This one a short story but it's reall y good
Whose Side Are You On?
by
Alan Gibbons

Mattie prefers not to stand out in a crowd. But when the school bullies start picking on his Asian friend, Pravin, Mattie knows that he should do something. Confused and scared, he runs away. His flight leads him right into the heart of slavery, living in 18th-century Jamaica.

It sounds strange but it;s quite powerful for a children's book, i have a cop of the newer version of it and it's really epic.

Right now I'm reading Robert Jordan's new one - The Gathering Storm.
Even though he's dead so he had to get somebody else to write it.
Still, it's pretty awesome, since he does a great job.

I'm also reading a book by Andy Shea that's all about serial killers an rapists and why they do it.
It's very interesting, if a little morbid.

Who here writes their own books? I do. I started a series of crash bandicoot books when i was 4, and 12 years later, 45 books of glory! I started back when crash was awesome. He sucks now, but I continue to write them. Coco still has long ponytail and dungarees. She's awesome that way.

And Phoenix wright makes a cameo in book 42. It's small, but its there.
I also wrote a book on the computer, just haven't finished it yet. Like, 2 more chapters or something.
(I actually need help on my books. Can you write ideas for what their next adventures could be? After 45 books, you can imagine ideas are running low -.-)

You're certainly not the only one. I used to do it all the time until I got a computer and started typing them out there. I found a couple of them while tidying my room, brought back some good memories, I do remember having a lot of fun writing them. It's my childhood ambition to be an author. I'm always wanting to write and read something. I'm one of those weird kids who likes writing essays.

I feel like going to waterstones to buy some books. There's a couple that caught my eye. I finally finished New Moon, which is my favorite out of the series, don't think I can bare reading more of the other two. And I simply adore Enid Blyton's stuff. I love her bedtime stories, haha. I have loads of books from her.

Really? I always thought it was the weakest book of the series.... If you enjoyed it, you should definitely try reading Eclipse- it's the best of the four.

Books, huh...

I haven't read all too many books and actually remembered them. They must not have been noteworthy. If I had to make a top five...
1. Kafka on the beach, by Haruki Murakami.
2. The Catcher In The Rye, by J.D. Salinger.
3. The Zombie Survival Guide, by Max Brooks
4. Digital Fortress, by Dan Brown
5. I don't even remember any other good books.

To do:
- Read more books
- Get Dan Brown out of top five

I read the first chapter of War & Peace, but I put it down after than and haven't been able to pick it up again. (so heavy)

I love enid blyton Iv'e read the faraway tree like a billlion times. She DID do the farway tree, right?

Yep that's from her. <3 There was this store, in Poole, dedicated to Enid Blyton and I bought the book from there. <3

So Thursday I did go out and buy some books. I finally got my own copy of Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. The last Pope by Luis Miguel Rocha was a book that pipped by eye in WHSmith, but I didn't buy it then, but I have now. And I got some others stored as Christmas presents.

I re-read The Boy In The Dress by David Walliams, which is a good book, in my opinion. It's got some sad moments, but it's really funny.

So, I'm almost done with Misery by Stephen King now. It's been pretty good so far.

Oh, fuck. Okay. Let's take it from the top:

-Lord of the Rings
-The Hobbit
-H.P. Lovecraft's stuff
-1984
-Animal Farm
-Practically anything from Stephen King (particularly if it's one of his books tying into The Dark Tower)
-Red Storm Rising
-Most of Harry Turtledove's work
-Childhood's End
-Space Odyssey series
-Catch-22
-Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series
-And Then There Were None
-Murder on the Orient Express
-The Big Four
-Dracula
-Frankenstein
-The first two books of Koji Suzuki's Ring Cycle
-The Maltese Falcon

There's probably a whole lot that I'm forgetting.
