I play a nice piano, I'm okay with the guitar, used to play trumpet, and I'm looking to pick up the violin.

I used to play the piano, like eight years ago. I wish I'd stuck with it, since I really love the instrument.

I'm just now starting learning how to play the guitar. I don't know anything fancy, just a few chords here and there, but I'm getting better.

Trombone and proud of it! I am obsessed with my instrument.
In my band, the trombone section (just me) and the trumpets have a rivalry. Is this the case anywhere else? *waves to other trombones*

Does a rivalry between the low woodwinds count?

Sure!
Also, the tromboes and baritones have always disliked each other in my band...
But trombones and clarinets get along pretty well.

Same at my school. But the trumpets don't get along with us, the trombones.

I play the Ocarina (honestly, I mean a traditional, professional one) and the drums. Weird combination I know.

I was forced to play the recorder long ago, but I don't remember a thing about it ^_^. I got a lap-harp a couple of years ago, but haven't done anything with it in a long time. I've wanted to learn the play the violin for quite a while, but at the moment I don't intend to start anytime soon.

I've been playing the piano for about 13 years now and the flute for about 9 years. I would like to learn something new, like the violin...just dunno if I'll have to time to learn a new instrument.

Sitar? Didgeridoo? Noseflute?

Post subject:  Re: Musical Instruments?

I own a sitar, I never did the whole travel-to-the-middle-east-to-properly-learn crap, but I'd say I've done well for somebody who had no formal lessons for what's basically the hardest instrument to exist ever. Now that you mention it, I wanna go back and try playing it some more, but I feel like I'd get cursed for now being worthy or something. I'll go to Pakistan for the formal stuff when I'm older.

Didgeridoos are badass, but I'm not interested in another woodwindwhatever.

I hate noseflutes.

I played the guitar for about five years, then at 11, got bored. Last year, at 15, I picked it up again and realised I could still play, although not amazingly. I cannot read music, at all, no matter how hard I try, so I play by ear, and by written letters.
I play the keyboard by ear. If I hear something, I can sometimes play it on the keyboard if its not too difficult. I used to play recorder in primary school.

BTW 2 years for keyboard :godot:

When I was in 5th grade, my music class agenda required me to learn the Recorder, though that's hardly worth mentioning as I was awful.

I drifted through a few other instruments after that, though I spent a lot of time with the Piano, with which I was also fairly bad at.

In high school I played the guitar in band class, then swapped places with bass before finally moving to drums, which I was actually good at.

After that I pretty much dropped out of music altogether, though I still have my guitar sealed away in the back of my closet.

I play guitar and drums, but mostly guitar (as I don't own a drum set). I suck something horrible at guitar, though. I never actually learned how to play, as I haven't found anyone to really teach me. I'd teach myself, but I'm not sure where to start. For now, though, I just mash on the strings. <_<

I know a few chords, as well as some riffs:
"Smoke On The Water" by Deep Purple (Really, what self-respecting guitarist DOESN'T know Smoke On The Water?)
"What I'd Say" by Ray Charles
The intro to "Paint It Black" by Rolling Stones (My personal favorite)

Post subject:  Re: Musical Instruments?

I've been playing the bagpipes since I was 10. So 6 years.I sometimnes play with the band, but the teacher has been really bugging me recently. Plus the fact to do a drama thing I'll have to skip practice. If he says "Pick, this or don't come back." There's no competition. He's ben driving me up the wall.

I really want to learn the guitars. Bass, Electric and accoustic. One of these days I'll actually do so.

EDIT: Oh! And I wish I could play the violin.

If it counts...I'm a great harmonica player. My grandpa taught me a lot of harmonica playing and I've currently learned about six tunes from video games and anime, in addition to most of the stuff that grandpa taught me.

Post subject:  Re: Musical Instruments?

I used to play the violin. My teacher was a bit...well, crap. She never graded me so I don't actually know how good I was in erms of like, grade 1 or 2 or whatever...and the first year, most of her lessons she kept going OUT of my class - that I payed 50 pounds each six weeks for - to go and talk to the trumpet teacher. Considering my lessons only lasted about....20-25 minutes, sometimes not even that because she was a lazy so-and-so, I didn't get to play that much. That really pissed us off.

I took it up again a few years later when I was doing GCSE music 'cause I could get it at half price, but again it was dull, so I dropped it. I do wish I had stuck with it because I'd love to be able to play it nicely , but...yeah. I can still play it, just not very well. At all. =/

Post subject:  Re: Musical Instruments?

Clarinet for a year in band, then I went over to percussion (in band again), and alto sax, which I learned at summer band camp. So I still know how to play clarinet, I just suck at it. I'm pretty good at percussion...I can play the bells, chimes, other random instuments (tamborine, triangle, ect.). I absolutely suck at drumset, but I'm pretty good at snare drum, and decent at bass drum and timpani. My band teacher was great (except when he got angry-then he was scary), which is what kept me in band other than the fact that I love music. Band geeks forever!

Steel drums (no, they aren't actual drums- I've never met anyone who knows what they are XD) and keyboard. And a bit of piano and violin.

I play the piano/keyboards, but not really well. I can play somewhat good, but my fingers don't co-operate with each other so well. I think I need more practise.

I'd like to learn to play the harmonica.

Post subject:  Re: Musical Instruments?

I don't play any at all any more but I can and/or have played:

Recorders: descant, treble and tenor
Clarinet
Guitar
Mandolin
Piano

I can't remember a time when I couldn't read music and I find it odd when other people can't.

Can't sing for shite though.

Post subject:  Re: Musical Instruments?

I have a bass guitar but my fingers are so annoyingly weak I'm not too good at it... Though I should probably practice more ^^; it's so dusty.... I also have an ocarina but I only know how to play one song on it.

I want to learn how to play the piano. Now that would be awesome. I love the piano. :D

I like to write songs :3

Also, I used to be able to read music, but I somehow lost that ability over the past 2 years... D: I'm trying to reteach myself. :/

I was always better at musical theory exams than musical practical exams. I think my brain works that way, so musical notation makes sense to me.

Post subject:  Re: Musical Instruments?

La. I play the B flat clarinet pretty well, I think. I'm second seat in my band anywho, and I've been playing it for... three and going on four years. All our parades were cancelled this year in marching band though... D: And third seat gets to play base... I wanted to learn how to play base... I also wouldn't mind learning saxaphones, cause they're in everything; marching band, concert band, jazz band... Clarinets like: BLEND IN WITH THE FLUUUTTTESSS... We're loud in our section though. Mostly because we have to be... [we only have four clarinets this year, and first seat plays piano for one song and third seats on base the whole time] La. I'm rambling.

I also like to think I'm good at singing. I'm a mezzo soprano, with a range of like low G to F# above middle C... [which is JUST UNDER high G and my REALLY HIGH soprano friend won't let me live down... D:] I pretty much hold my own against the soprano section best in the alto section, and sing much louder then them. [not really super on purpose, and GOD nothings worse then being loud if you completely lose your notes~!] Sopranos don't know how hard altos have it. XD [no offense to sopranoes]

I'm not making sense anymore. Too late for me... But that's my two cents. :D
