Wow, I can understand that people don't like YOLO and SWAG because of the people who are associated with it, but getting mad over something like: what's up? or how are you doing?
People are showing interest or just making small talk. I don't see the harm in that.

Luckily my friends only use memes in extremely sarcastic ways, so that doesn't bother me to.

What does grind my gears though is when people post a status on social media that doesn't mean anything or is way vague.
examples:
- sigh
- the clouds are really cloudy today....
- what do I do now? (<-- no further information is given)

When people online say "I'm just trolling you man"

Back in my day trolling meant something.

Some people say that to get out of trouble when they screw up.

Which is even worse.
(That also reminds me of this.)

This is why I'm afraid to call someone out when they make those stupid comments regarding the number of dislikes on a video. I have a feeling someone will say "I'm just kidding! I don't really think the 30 people who disliked this video should die."

So what meant trolling to you back in our day?

Trolling's a good hobby dude.
It's Enjoyable,
It can be done anywhere,
I guarantee you'll never be bored
Because at the end of the day, as long as there's someone online.
Someone's going to have a stupid opinion.

I'll be honest with you, the admins will not like you.

Decency?
Decency is for people who give a shit about what others think about them.

Trolls have a code:

Be original
Be consistent.
And have a plan to piss off everyone you meet.

...Interesting. Well personally, trolls don't annoy me, what does annoy me is the people who take trolls so seriously to the point where they might start school shootings.
And so what if I try to be mature on the internet, somebody has to with all the ignorant buttheads on the internet.
And I like the feeling of maturity, it makes me feel like I accomplished something.

Ok, I get what your definition of trolling is now. But if you look now or 10 years ago, you'll have clever trolls and obviously stupid ones. There were more bigger and epic operations back then as there are now, but what I meant to ask was what you think is different from trolling now and lets say 5 - 10 years ago.

I'm not sure if they understand what DoMaya is referencing....or whether Emiko is actually angry at DoMaya's response....

In that case he's already won.

YOLO. The most overused saying of 2012.

I also hate "Watch your language." How can you visually look at your language?

There's also "It is what it is." No kidding. What the hell else could it be?

I suppose "Monitor" your language is more accurately.
Metaphorically the phrase still makes sense in my eyes.

ALL of these sayings make sense metaphorically. That isn't the problem here. The problem is that I hate how they sound and how they're used. That IS the point of this thread after all. It doesn't matter if they make sense or not.

Hmm perhaps I just think people should watch their language a little more these days, I thought you had an objection to it not being literal based on your complaint.

"Sucks to suck"
I don't have so much of a problem with the meaning of it - despite it being incredibly down-putting- it's more how people use it. Like, one day a teacher of mine was telling us about a tragic motorcycle accident where the biker died, and one girl responded "Sucks to suck." Makes no sense.
"JK"
Again, I don't mind it so much online, but it's when people use it in real life, and use it wrong. So it's like
Teacher: Do you know the answer to this?
Kid: Yeah, it's 7.
Teacher: Actually it's 18.
Kid: Oh, JK.
You're not kidding you twit, you're wrong.
"X number of likes is higher than Y number of views. Wut."
"My favorite part was (time) to (time)"
"Well my favorite part was 0:00 to (end time)"
Dear god, why does the last keep getting top comment? I think we can safely assume the person before liked the whole video, and just liked one part in particular especially. Do we really always have to try to be cliche, one-upping smartasses and say the whole video was good?
And of course "YOLO" and "swag" make me want to take a cheese grater to someone's face.

Hope no one minds if I revive this, because boy have I got a ton of these!

Kys/Kill yourself-This one is used all the time in YouTube comment sections. It's rather blunt and honestly scary because it's used in a joking manner. Suicide isn't a joke. Then again,it goes with the YouTube comment etiquette perfectly-be rude, unnecessarily blunt, and make dumb jokes.

You sir have just won the ____-this one is just really outdated. I flinch whenever I see it. It's so 2007.

YAASS-Why not just say yes?

Using dumb fonts-For usernames and for posts,it gets on my nerves. Especially TyPiNg LiKe tHiS.

Every dumb Facebook minion post/motivational poster ever-....self explanatory.

A lot of mild Tumblr mannerisms-I noticed these while going through some liveblogs. Stuff like 'I can't even' or those statements that end like with a ton of question marks for some reason???? Or when they reblog a post but only put their actual thoughts in the tags. Or when -okay.thats enough. Don't want to turn us into a tumblr rant now.

Swearing a [CENSORED]ton-You're not edgey or cool. You just come off as childish and immature.

Send nudes-Ew

Comments that confuse raping with rapping-See above

Bae-Similar to YASS,this doesn't seem to sit right with me. And don't use Bæ-you aren't Danish.

YOLO-Look up the video 'EBOLO' to see my thoughts on this.

Overuse of emojis-STOP

Overuse of emojis ironically-ok this is actually kinda fun to do

Every spam comment ever-'Hey guys I'm an aspiring ____ I'd appreciate it if u check out my channle','CHECK OUT THIS TOTALLY LEGIT GIFTCODE AT totallynotavirus.com','If u lie, this ULTIMATE LCUK FOUR LEAF if you comment dis UR CRUSH WILL KISS YOU TOOMROW fi ouy dissliek or donut comet U WILL DIE TONIGHT','[insert a dumb story here] liek dis u crie errytim and cp this in 50000000000000 other videos r else SPOOKY SKELTON WILL CUME UOT OFF UR CLOSTE ADN KILLLLLL UU'. You get the gist of it.

Twitter bios-Most of them go like this:

'[AGE]||[GENDER]||[THINGS I LIKE]||[MY JOB]||[MISC.]' So cliché it hurts.

I think that's all. Whew.

Oops double post but really I found a few more that really bug me

(Fe)male chauvinistic pig-This just comes off as condescending, and gives off a bad vibe.

Making a long post for hours only for the replies to be 'LOL this is a long post'-Screw you. I spent all that time typing that, only for you to comment on its length? Either say something meaningful,or shut up.

I didn't ask you for your opinion-Also comes off as condescending and rude. This is often said after they ask for criticism and I point out a few flaws politely.

Political terms in general-I'm tired of politics in general. Please stop bringing it into everything. I'm talking to you, guys who start political wars on purpose in comment section 'just for the lolz'.
