I'm sorry CR, but the government is trying to send me away.

They will try and silence me, and I will refuse.

If it happens, I'll have to leave without saying goodbye.

So I'll just say it now...

Tis the beauty of the American Government. Yes, the land of the brave and the free who wholly embraces the First Amendment of Free Speech will now follow China's part in controlling the Internet. So I too will say Goodbye CR. It was rather fun while it lasted.

What is it they are planning on censoring online? Surely that bill isn't as severe as China's policies.

from what ive heard it just gives companies the right to ban wahtever websites they want, if the sites have copyright infringing material on them(read: any website they don't like)
and to make sure that those disgusting, sick criminals, who sing popular songs and post it on youtube, go to prison, where they like, totally, belong (think I already mentioned that earlier that it is a crime)

...but don't worry it wont pass

Watch them getting attacked by a crowd of an angry mob and remove this law, first pizza is a vegetable and now censoring the internet...what kind of joke is this? :nick-sweat:

It's not aimed at DoMaya in particular. How would that be worthy of passing a BLASTED LAW?

Shit:
http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/3746 ... ct-ip-act/

The ammount of opposition to it keeps growing though (the petition Demand Progress has submitted to congress is over 700,000 signatures).
It is a pretty biased fight though. They won't let opponents from the outside in the debate.

May the companies and politicians who support it burn in hell.

I like that pizza's a vegetable now, but this censorship bill's just a terrible idea.

I wouldn't worry too much though, Obama has publicly said that if this bill makes it to his front desk, he's vetoing the hell out of it.

It's a shame they can't think of a way to tackle game piracy without such drastic measures as I can understand why it'd be appealing to game developers because of that.

You know, I'm surprised just how few people out there seem to know or actually care about this bill, despite the fact that it could essentially kill the Internet as we know it. Only two of my friends even know what it is.

That's because they don't want people to know about it. The corporations supporting the bill also control most of the media outlets (CBS, CNN, etc). They pulled the same stunt with the ACTA bill earlier this year. Even Microsoft is now opposed to the bill.

Here's a video and a story:
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/11/23/w ... -congress/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t74BzyM7iis
Demand Progress has a Facebook page where they post updates, stories, and videos:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/demandprogress

If it comes down to it, I say full nationwide boycotts of the companies supporting the bill should happen. Make the bastards bleed red ink.

Wait, I thought it was finally voted down? I remember seeing on Knowyourmeme that this one guy, I don't know his name, was the Savior of the Internet... He was the deciding vote...? But it's not there anymore...
Maybe I dreamed it, and I'm a psychic.

Millions of sites worldwide are mobilizing to defeat the bill. Here's a couple of links to check out:

Articles on it:

http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/ ... onomyId=17
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:H.R.3261:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-PARASITE

Here is a white house.gov petition to stop this:

https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#! ... t/SWBYXX55

White House Petition to stop Protect Ip Act (Goes with E-Parasite, does alot of the same stuff):

https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/! ... 8/4ykggyDq

Of course, this is being funded by alot of corporations who don't give a crap aobut personal freedoms but like to Q.Q when people point out their greediness. While true the bill is INTENDED to target pirate sites and people who upload copyrighted material to You Tube we know this will be abused should it become law.

We need to send them and Washington a message this bill will do more harm than good.

I hope most of you guys realize that the effects of this bill being passed are closer to copyright holders going, "If you sing 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star' on Youtube, I'm going to shut down your website, kill your IP address, and sue the hell out of you, and there's NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT" than the government trying to directly prohibit certain information from being viewable. Basically, it gives corporations a terrifying amount of control over how individuals distribute their content. Imagine getting fined $5000 for publishing an Ace Attorney fanfic or sites like TV Tropes not existing.

So yeah, it's bad but not "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU" bad. Close to it, though.
