So, it struck me the other day, how many cool things from when I was little just aren't around anymore- Pokemon on Saturday mornings, and BN biscuits being just a couple.

How about you guys? Anything you miss from when you were little?

This is an interesting topic, PandaPrinzessin!

I personally miss recording Pokemon episodes from TV on VCR tapes (I still have them), and old retro games being sold in stores. If only I bought some back then, I wouldn't be searching desperately for them at my current age...

Pokémon anime, Digimon, The Singing Kettle (even though I remember none of it), the times when silliness was found funny by everyone, and the lack fo sarcasm in youth.

I miss being able to buy videos in shops. Somehow DVDs just aren't the same.

All my little kiddy books. I had one about a bear who was a painter...I loved it xD

I think the sign of a true 90s kid would be if TV shows are one of the things you miss most from your childhood. xD I miss watching Power Rangers, the very first season. Although that can be easily remedied these days. GO GO POWER RANGERSSSS~ And basically all the awesome shows back then. Nick had a lot of good ones; Aaah! Real Monsters, Hey Arnold, KABLAM, to name a few.

Apart from that, I miss the general carefree-ness that comes with being a kid.

Cartoon Network (not to be confused with CN) and lack of responsibility. Mostly the former >:(

Since Cartoon Network was already said, I'm gonna go with good WB shows like Animaniacs and Freakazoid.

So many things:
-When Nickelodeon was actually cool and actually played some decent shows such as Hey Arnold, Doug, Legends of the Hidden Temple, and so on. Also watching Animaniacs on WB.
-Coming home from school and watching the Sailor Moon episodes my mom taped for me.
-Coming home from school and eating in my parents room while watching Power Rangers on their tv.
-Playing make-believe and Barbies with friends and my sisters.
-Playing outside for hours and not getting tired from it.
-Never wanting to go to bed.
-No responsibilities. Well, hardly any of them.
-Slip 'n slides.
-Playing in sprinklers.

I loved being a kid. I wish I could stay one forever!! Well, a 90's kid :acro:

I miss old Nick shows so, so much! I remember watching Doug and Rugrats every night, staying up for Snick on Saturdays... there were so many fun old shows. All That, Space Cases, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Salute Your Shorts, and all of the crazy game shows. I've been watching clips from Legends of the Hidden Temple on Youtube a lot lately. Who else here remembers that show? :shoe:

And back then, Saturday morning cartoons were WORTH getting up for! Pokemon and Digimon all the way. I used to wake up early on weekdays to watch Sailor Moon, too.

I miss being a kid sometimes. :sadshoe: Everything was so carefree.

- Being able to play Pokemon games and actually enjoy them
- Yu-gi-oh cards and beyblades. Elementary school fads ftw.
- Digimon and other weird animes that I used to like. I liked sailor moon for some reason. Knowing how much of a pimp I was back in the day, it was probably because there was a bunch of girls running around in skirts. -_-
- Half-days of school.
- Not having a lot of homework
- All of the awesome games I had for my GBA.
- My gameboy advance. That system was hella cool. Yes, I just said hella cool.
- My WICKED AWESOME ACTION FIGURES!!!1! And I had some pretty awesome beanie babies and assorted plush dolls. My favourite one was this digimon plush toy I got at some flea market. I forget the name, but it was the digivolved form of Agumon...
- Santa Claus.
- Being completely oblivious to blatantly obvious & inconvenient truths.
- Being an only child. :D

Hahaha... funny everyone should reminisce about Pokemon. I actually miss the days there wasn't any Pokemon on television. Or Power Rangers or Barney.

For me, "those days" were all about Jem, TMNT, G.I. Joe, He-Man (unintentionally gayest cartoon after Dragon Ball Z, incidentally), She-Ra, old school Scooby Doo, old school Looney Tunes, Jetsons, Flintstones, Smurfs, Hong Kong Phooey, Snorks and Muppet Babies.

Of course, it was all good when Nicktoons premiered (though to be honest, it started going downhill after the Angry Beavers). And of course Animaniacs. And I used to watch the Simpsons before it got stale, and Beavis and Butthead (despite the fact I should not have been watching it at that age). And of course, I thank Toonami for later reacquainting me with anime.

But aside from cartoons... I sure miss school holidays and three months' summer vacation, and being able to hole myself up in my room and play video games for so many days in a row. You don't get to do a whole lot of that in the real world... unless, of course, you like sleep-deprived days and not getting paid.

I also miss seeing kids playing outside. Everybody played outside when I was a kid... skateboards, bikes, rollerskates, scooters, basketball, kickball. And we all went around the neighborhood and the woods and the ditches and sewers and every disgusting place imaginable. We caught pissing bullfrogs and picked cattails and had a pathetic tire swing and a beat-up old clubhouse... my neighbor had a backyard full of ivy-clad trees, and ivy spread all over the lawn, so sometimes we'd just use that as a hiding place. I'd get all muddy and some of us would need stitches for some of the bike accidents we got into...and oh my god, yellow jacket nests and locust skins and daddy long legs. Ahh.... what am I trying to say? I guess I just miss being allowed to be present and unapologetic and filthy as hell and not at all worrying that some nasty child molester was gonna get off on it.

Waking up on Christmas morning to find a mountain of presents underneath the tree. Now I just ask for stuff. Destroys the surprise. :(

There also used to be an awesome wood-constructed play set at the park in my area but it was torn down in 2003 because the wood was beginning to rot. Now a cheap-o plastic play set occupies the sand pit it once stood in. The shit was cash; it had tire swings, a huge spiral slide, bridges, balance beams, and tons of shady areas. Whenever my daycare lady took us to there, everyone went nuts; we'd spin each other on the tires until we fell, have awesome pretend games of Godzilla vs. Destroyah, or some shit like that, and a bunch of other stuff that I can't remember in great detail. I will always miss it but never forget!

EDIT: Oh yeah, Nickelodeon rules my childhood TV days before I discovered Cartoon Network. Legends of the Hidden Temple, Double Dare, Hey, Arnold!, Rugrats, Doug, and so many other shows. I watched every holiday special that I could.

Hmm, you guys made me remember some more things :D
-Making up games with my sisters. I remember we made up this baby stroller relay game and we also made up our own Legends of the Hidden Temple games at the playground.
-Going to my friends house and making a bunch of stuff out of mud. My hands would be sooo messy and gross :D My mom would get pissed off.
-Playing with PLAYDOH!! That shit was the shit!! I love Playdoh!!
-Sneaking over to a house nobody lived in and stealing walnuts from the walnut tree in the yard.
-When every joke was the most hilarious thing and you never got tired of telling it.
-When Christmas was the coolest, most exciting holiday ever. Once you realize that there's no Santa, it's just not the same.
-Playing dodgeball.
-No homework.
-Swinging on the swings all recess long.
-Swapping foods from our lunches.
-Digging huge ass wholes in the sand at the playground by my house.
-Living in California.
-When Toys 'R Us was the most awesome store ever!!
-Four square

YES. That was a smart move for Nick. But it pissed me off because I almost always missed it. They did that for Hey Arnold too. They played a few of their episodes for a bit, and then they stopped showing them. What the hell!? Yeah, kids these days are really, really missing out on loads of awesome things!!

Ohh, I love big, wooden play sets like that. I remember going to one and it had giant animals you could climb on and a bunch of little crawling spaces. I just loved crawling through everything and running and jumping on the bridges!! There was also a nice one near where I lived before I moved to Ohio, but I never really got a chance to play on it :[

Because gum is the only reason I'm wearing braces. Whenever I chew it, I do so very obsessively and it kinda messes up my teeth. Even when my braces come up, I won't be allowed to chew it again.

And I'm sick of how everyone is saying how "today's cartoons suck, (insert show from 10-20 years ago) was way better!" People have been complaining about cartoons ever since they first appeared in theaters and replaced most of the erotic films. Teenagers (myself included) have no right to judge on what cartoons Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network decides to broadcast. Our minds are too cleared up by more years of school and a better understanding of the world around us. There were always people who detested shows like Animaniacs, Digimon, He-man, The Flintstones, and even Dexter's Laboratory. FUCKING. DEXTER. You just wait until 10 years later when the internet will be plagued with stories of how "OH I MISS (FLAPJACK). THAT WAS THE BEST SHOW EVER! I ALWAYS WATCHED IT AS A KID AND WHEN I STARTED WATCHING IT AGAIN AS A TEENAGER, I SUDDENLY UNDERSTOOD ALL THE REFERENCES AND PARODIES SO IT'S EVEN FUNNIER!"

Okay, maybe once in a while, there really is a bad cartoon during the current decade. But when isn't there? I'm sure there were plenty of bad cartoons we've never even heard about that nostalgic cartoon-loving teenagers flamed to death upon the very mention of it. Maybe they weren't that bad and were simply cancelled before they even had their chance.

In summary, you have no right to say a whether or not a cartoon is good or bad unless you're under 11. :edgeworth:

In summary, you have no right to say a whether or not a cartoon is good or bad unless you're under 11. :edgeworth:

I have every right to say whether a cartoon is bad or not. We live in a day and age where we grew up with cartoons. When we were younger, we watched loads of cartoons, whether they were good or bad. We still remember the ones that we didn't like and especially the ones we did like. Sure in ten years, kids these days will say, "That cartoon was the best. These new ones suck!!" but I think that's the whole part of growing up. I'm sure your parents think the shows they grew up on were far more superior to the shows we watched. I know mine do. The same goes for anything: music, video games, even playing outside.

There are cartoons that I like today too, such as Avatar-The Last Airbender, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, I still like to watch Spongebob (ok not the new ones after the movie, but I still watch it). There are other great cartoons out there that a lot of older people like me enjoy watching. There's nothing wrong with nostalgia. That's what brings a lot of people together, I think. Once in my psych class in high school, we started talking about all the shows we liked to watch when we were younger, and we spent the whole class time talking about it. Finding out that people enjoyed the same things you did as a kid really helps you relate with them because you know what they're talking about, and so do they. It's fun reminiscing about "the good ol' days". The new can never replace the old.

The new can never replace the old.

...I guess you're right there...I'm just being angry that I never got to enjoy some of these same shows until I was too old for them... :hoboleft:

- Making tents out of a clothes horse and a bed sheet
- Playing with Barbie's and stealing my brother's Action Man
- Making my brother wear a skirt so we could play mother and daughter
- Polly Pocket
- Superted
- Fastening my coat around my neck to make a cape and running around the playground pretending to be Batman/Superman
- Being skinny
- Dancing in the living room to Madness
- Eating Lucky Charms but only the coloured bits and leaving the cereal
- Sonic the Comic
- Getting into fights
- Playing double ball/Red Rover/Double Dutch/Stuck in the Mud etc.

I'll remember more later -__-

I totally forgot Polly Pocket. How the hell could I forget one of my most favorite toys when I was growing up!? *sigh* I actually still have all my Polly Pockets. Even my first one.

Oh yeah, I know how that is. I used to be skinny as a stick. Then when I hit my junior year in high school, I just kept packing on the pounds D:

LOL.

-I miss being able to play hide and seek with my sister.
-I don't miss the family role-playing though.
-Standing in the Toy section of Wal-Mart without some 10 year old walking up to you, calling you a f*ggot, and then proceeding to buy the same toy you were looking at.
-Going to sleep with stuffed animals
-My bunk bed
-Not having my dog drag me through the park twice a day.
-The sweet innocence of childhood, where you can't laugh everytime someone makes a "That's what she said" Joke.
-Being able to eat McDonald's without caring about your weight.

Ah, I miss the simple things.
Like Just being able to get picked up, not being worried about your looks, weight etc.
And when you were younger you seemed to have way more friends. I miss that too. *sigh*
And of course the good ol' TV shows. Poddington peas, rugrats, & Tweenies come to mind. Oh and Jungle run. I also miss to a lesser extent
-Doing whatever the hell you want without being called weird
-Being clever wasGOOD thing. It seems in 13-18 being really smart automatically makes you a nerd. (For example, there was a guy who was my friends friend. We were talking about school, I said I had at least a level 6 in all subjects, and now he hates me because i'm 'nerdy' or so says my friend. )
- Having catchphrases and saying random stuff was cool. Now for our age, it's deemed 'retarded'
- Drawing was cool, too. People laugh at my doodles now.
