I didn't know whether I should post this here on on the police station but since that forum is about video games I just put it here.

Anyway, anybody else here who plays chess? Personally,I am sort-of new of the game,I play it in my school, though my teacher says I am pretty good.I have never really been in a tournament, though I am interested in that.

So,any of you have anything to say? Like discussing the game, your experiences with it,etc. Just post it here!

I don't have much to say more than the fact that this post really made me want to play chess again, it's been years! I'm not very good at it, though, I mostly move pieces haphazardly and therefore prefer to play it with people like me - I can't say I'm the most logical of persons when it comes to such matters.

And god,that video is hilarious!

Hahaha, let's just say that it happened to me, the last time I played chess, no less, seven years ago or so (and that wasn't the reason I haven't palyed chess since - I just don't have many friends that play chess). I was mildly annoyed, but mostly amused, haha! Like, well, you got me there, you logical bastard. :kristoph:

I used to play chess and I was pretty good, and recently I've been trying to get back into it. It's definitely very logical and takes a lot of strategy...most of which I have forgotten. :yogi:

I love playing chess! I'm actually pretty decent at it myself. A tip to help with strategy builiding: if it isn't obvious, chess is a game of thinking ahead. Rather than focus on the move at hand, it's better to try and think about the next couple of moves. It's hard at first, but gets easier as you play more and more games.

I like chess, but I have no idea on how to seriously play. In fact, I am so inexperienced I have no idea between a castle or any other basic strategy in chess. Has anyone played go? I have heard it is a fun board game and a little by like chess in terms of "reading your opponent".

I have never played Go,but I heard it's the only game to come close to Chess in terms of "seriousness".Like that one game where one of the players started coughing blood and died...

Also,id by playing seriously you mean in a mire competitive ways,I think it is best to try playing as amny games as possible, then analyze your moves and how the game could have went. Also, look up openings and the reasons each move in them is made.

@TheMoonlitAttorney: I agree,a common mistake I have seen a lot of people, sometimes even myself make is to get to carried away when they think about good moves and think that they're playing alone,or assume that their opponent will play the worst possible move.

It did.Here.After playing for four days without adjournments, the player who lost started vomiting blood while the borad was being cleaned up and died after a few months. Also famous for having three "ghost" moves, which were supposedly brought by ghost to the player who won.

EDIT:Fixed the link

That was easily one of the coolest yet most disturbing things I've ever heard of... but despite that, go is still an amazing game.

I find kinda funny how what most sites talk about is the game themselves and not the guy's dead...

Hmm... reminds me of Hikaru no Go. It doesn't show all that stuff, but there is a board with blood on it. I recommend that anime/manga if you haven't seen it. It actually teaches a little bit of the game too.

I find it funny how we went from talking about chess to talking about go. So going back to chess, is there a specific opening any of you like to use?

I mostly use the Queen's Gambit or any queen-side pawn opening when playing as white.I guess I don't really have a preference when it comes to defenses, now that I think about it.

I personally don't use any specific openings, despite having a whole book about chess openings. But I typically play open games and start with the e5 pawn when playing as white.

I used to play chess a lot, but stopped practicing for no particular reason. I accept online matches, although I must suck at it when compared to some players.
