I know this is MONTHS old, but I hadn't heard anything on it until I found the link today.
and for those unwilling to click on the link:
This was supposedly part of a heated business meeting in which Square discussed the results of their 2007 fiscal year, which were none too sunny, showing general profits down 20 percent and taking the worst of it in overseas sales.
Business is business, but I have to say my heart sank when I read those words. If Square was doing anything I was excited to see, it was things outside the Final Fantasy spectrum, but financial troubles like this certainly excise any hope of experimental titles in the future (at least until the numbers improve). I'm glad to see the giant falter a bit, if only in hopes that the results will push them towards a more focused future.

On this website it was out in May so...
I liked it, the battle system was really fun and it had plenty of short mini games to change the pace up.
TWEWY is the main reason this gets me mad.

TWEWY could have been a great game in my eyes, but the overkill fans killed it for me. Going crazy and nuts for this game killed my appreciation for it. Like Final Fantasy VII, at its time it was a good game. Then when Kingdom hearts came out, and people saw Sephiroth for the first time they got all giddy and acted like a fan of FFVII. And because of it making the movie and the pointless sequels. Basically Killing any respect for Final Fantasy VII I once had, thanks to the crazed fans!

That...doesn't even make sense. Mother 1 and 3 weren't released BECAUSE they weren't "mainstream" enough.
And, uh, if Square Enix isn't allowed to make any "unique" games, why are they working on Sigma Harmonics?

As for the stuff about Mother 3: Dang. I want that game so bad. Don't care if I have to fork an ID over to get it, I want it.
I didn't know it was that bad, though.
NOA probably hates the Mother fans more, though. They dedicate whole WEEKS to calling Nintendo to request the game. And some people call 30 times a day.

Where the heck are you? In reality, where I am, Blizzard has announced both Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2. And then there's the whole thing where all Square does these days is remake old games, so I'd say you have a pretty good chance of seeing FF5 DS.

I'm still sceptical that they won't bring both games out in at least the next two years.
I'm a bit slow on things, but what do we have so far on both games? Teaser trailers? Or maybe some more?
And just because you asked, I'm living in the middle of nowhere in Bavaria, Germany, I don't read any games magazines and I very rarely check up on news. I am a very sceptical person and very often fail to believe if there is no solid proof that there is actual work being done.

The Duke Nukem analogy was just to show that developers sometimes take too much time - who says that Blizzard doesn't throw it all away and stays with their moneymachine?
I actually admire the fact that the two games in question even got announced, since I was thinking I'd be waiting till 2020 or so.

I think it's more of a his original statement was the exact opposite of reality so he's going to come up with half assed ways to defend it type of thing. Because admitting you have no way of knowing what's going on in the games industry and then not admitting you're wrong about what's going on in the games industry makes perfect sense.

And I don't see how attacking people is going to change anything. Blizzard is a good (wow is my lover) company and all we can do is wait for the games and just hope it was worth the wait. If not you can wallow in your tears and enjoy a remake of an overproduced final fantasy game.
