You know Gregor was actually the first one I was going to use as an example to pick out of everyone. Indeed I think he's got the most supports in my game simply because I couldn't find anyone good enough for him (which means a lot of them dangling at A).

Then I remembered that Henry is the best thing ever.

Apparently Amazon decided to send me my pre-order of Fire Emblem Fates on Monday instead of on Friday like they claimed they would. Which is really cool, because now I get my pre-ordered copy of the game three days after it actually releases. Pre-orders are supposed to come on the day of release, so I have no clue what Amazon is doing here. I almost feel like simply buying a copy from GameStop, but then I'd be buying the game twice, which I'd rather not do...

I suppose I just have to hope that some employee goofed up and set the wrong date and it's coming tomorrow instead.

I pre-ordered XCX online and didn't get it until about four days later after its release. Honestly, with online pre-orders, I've learned not to expect to get the stuff the day of release. There could be chances where the stores may not get that certain item until said day, or there could be delays when it comes to shipping such as weather issues, or if the game is shipping from the parent company, it might be a good ways from your current location, and some deliveries don't operate on weekends, so that plays a factor as well. A lot more factors into the time it takes to receive a pre-order when you're getting it shipped compared to just going to the store yourself and picking it up.

If it was getting a physical copy in person, it'd be a different story, but I'm more lenient on shipping because I consider the travel time and such. As long as I get it within two weeks of its release, I'm fine.

Nah. The shipping delays really only happen with Nintendo games since it's something to do with distribution on their end, but any other game you'll get release date delivery cause they're not made by Nintendo.
I had to wait 1-2 weeks for Awakening cause they didn't make enough copies for retailers.

To be honest, this is the first game I've ore-ordered in a while. I wouldn't mind nearly as much if I hadn't been waiting for this game for so long after it's announce. Also, on Monday I have clubs and stuff so I probably won't even get to play it until almost 5:00, when I could've started almost immediately if I had just bought it tomorrow. Most importantly, this completely but here's my CYOA update schedule, and it'll probably take me a while to fix it again.

I just got an e-mail saying that my Special Edition of Fates has been delayed, I'm gathering because of a shortage of product, and I won't get my copy now for another month. I'm fine though, I can wait patiently. But only having to wait a few days, count yourself lucky PB. =p

You know what really grinds my gears in videogames? ICE LEVELS!

Slipping and sliding all over the place. But most of all, I hate the ice levels with puzzles. And they generally include 'pushing blocks' on ice. I hate those levels. I hate those puzzles. (One reason why I liked Skyward so much, it DIDN'T have ice, meaning no ice level or puzzles)

Alright, I wasn't aware that delayed pre-orders were that common. Amazon usually delivers mine on time, but J haven't pre-ordered something in a while. Not to mention I was kind of in a bad mood when I wrote that, so I don't really care anymore. I can wait for it to be delivered.

I don't normally do this but I've been frustrated lately so why not. Here's a rant about some games.

Spoiler: Bullshit in Smash Run and Fire Emblem
Of the many things that will likely lead to my early and untimely demise in this world, the years I've lost due to the hair pulling unyielding stress vortex that is video gaming will likely be right up there next to my hot cheeto addiction and my as of yet unnamed condition that causes me to soak myself in antalope blood and leap naked into the nearest lion pit. Smash Run alone has probably claimed so many years off the end of my life that I'll probably drop dead midway through writing this post. At the time of this writing I've literally had nightmares about playing Smash Brothers, wherein I went through the same odd series of events, unable to change the outcome but painfully aware of the cycle. I'm actually not joking here; I, a semi-grown man who is ostensibly an adult, had an actual nightmare about a video game.

But essentially what drives me so nuts about Smash Run? In a word: "Bullshit". In two words, "Repetition" and "Bullshit". I'll start first with the latter.

I say "bullshit", but that's a vague word, though I suspect if you've played Smash Run you might know what I mean-- What I mean by "bullshit" is, I suppose, when the random factors of the game converge in a manner that screws you over to the point where there's nothing you can do about it, or perhaps more simply, any time something happens that makes you scream "BULLSHIT". And trust me, the only people who have said bullshit more frequently than I have are in Washington. The bullshit in Smash Run is, I suppose, part of the game. Virtually everything about the game is random, from which enemies show up, what layout you get, where chests and items are, etc. It's supposed to keep things fresh and it does, for the most part. You just have to stock up some good power ups, pick a character that platforms well, and you should do just fine, right? If you're just playing Smash Run for fun, then no big deal at all. You get something new every time, you just gotta do your best and have some fun, right? Why are you so pissed about this dumb game mode you don't even have to play?

"Well," Said Masahiro Sakurai, stroking his chin while wiping his ass with "Goku 4 Smash" requests, "What if we made it so that you get your custom moves and stuff from this game mode?"

"Ok, that sounds cool, yeah. That way, we encourage the player to play this mode and--"

"So whenever you pick up a custom part," Sakurai continues, "You get a chance of MAYBE getting a Custom Move; but maybe you get some dumb upgrade you don't care about."

"Well, as long as it's always giving you new stuff, that should make it rewarding each time you play--"

"And let it repeat, so there's only ever a slim chance of you getting the stuff you actually want as a reward!"

"...Okay, Mr. Sakurai, but can the Smash Run be at least fun to play?"

"It can be fun about 50% of the time, if you get an actual Smash fight-- But otherwise, you get a boring race or climb challenge where you just have to pray you got enough power ups to keep up with your opponents and then randomly die at the last second!"

"So, essentially, the player is putting up with whatever random stuff you throw at them on the off-chance that they MIGHT get some cool prizes, but probably won't?"

"Exactly," Sakurai finishes, guzzling down a deep thermos of fanboy tears. "Now, get back to making Corrin the most broken motherfucker in the game."

As that entirely 100% accurate transcript of a real conversation just proved, my experience with Smash Run has essentially been as such: Play through a bunch of random, tedious gameplay to get the things I want. If my half-lucid rant wasn't clear, the only reason I played Smash Run like a maniac was to get the custom moves that change each character. Customizing characters is one of my favorite things to do in video games, even if the customization in Smash is fairly shallow. But I enjoy it, and I wanted to get all the Customs so I could customize to the height of my ability-- But I had to unlock them all first.

No, "unlock" is the wrong word-- I had to GRIND them, via this excruciating easter egg hunt from hell that might not even give me results. And I know-- There are other ways to get custom parts than Smash Run-- Classic mode probably gives you higher chances and there's various other ways to find them. But that's just it-- It's the finding that drives me nuts. It's that I'm NOT "unlocking" by making progress, hitting marks and being rewarded subsequently-- I'm essentially gambling that I'll get the things I want, finding those little Wrench thingies that MIGHT give me a reward; but at the same time might just be something I already have, thus wasting my time and effort. So Smash Run became less of a wacky and different gameplay mode and more of a tedious, intense, and highly frustrating chore; and the same goes for Classic mode and so on. It becomes less of playing a game and more of grinding. It's not a challenge, it's an endurance test. And all the fun goes straight out the window for me. I just have to ask myself: "Why? Why was it designed like this? If anyone wants to get all the custom parts, it's not a matter of being good at the game or as a reward-- It's about spending a buttload of time running around, winning fights over and over and then hoping you get things. Why?"

I have a bit of a theory on why it's like this. I think it's because that was the way they did trophies and stuff in the earlier Smash games. See, with Trophies, I don't care as much. Because what are you gonna DO with a trophy? There's buttloads of trophies, so more often than not, you're getting something new, but if you don't, eh, you're not really missing out. But with the Custom Parts, you ARE missing out-- Even if you can't really use them online or anything, that's still an aspect of the game that you're missing, and not necessarily because you aren't good enough at the game or because you haven't done a lot of stuff; it's because you just haven't hit the jackpot and gotten lucky just yet. It feels cheap, and when it's done with a thing that directly and immediately affects your gameplay, then it stings all that much more.

You see, Smash Run isn't really what I hate; not really. It's just the mode I was the most frustrated with. At the end of the day, I have no idea if Smash Run is good or bad as a mechanic or whatever, and honestly I haven't even seen anyone else play through it. I have no frame of reference if I'm just really bad at it or if the game is legitimately as frustrating as I feel it is. Hell, if I didn't care about getting Custom Parts or completing those Challenge walls, I wouldn't be nearly as frustrated with this game as I have been. It's entirely my own personal stake in the game that drives me to be as mad as I am, and to still be playing after all this time. And I'll definitely admit-- A lot of this is because I just am not good at the game. I'm not nearly good enough and that frustrates me a lot too. But at the same time, that still won't change that if I go through Smash, get a bunch of the Wrenches, I can still just as easily come out with nothing, regardless of how well I did. That is my problem with Smash Run.

Like I said, this is a personal issue-- Honestly, I like most of the rest of Smash. There's nothing quite like going online only to be immediately thrashed by someone's Corrin-- Wait, what's that noise? Do I hear a... segue!?

Yes, that's right, there's no brakes on the rant train tonight because speaking of Fire Emblem related bullshit: Fire Emblem: Fucking Awakening.

Ok so Corrin doesn't actually have much to do with it, but Awakening is the OTHER insanely frustrating game I haven't been able to put down in weeks and just tonight that frustration hit a fever pitch with my latest Fire Emblem Fuck Up, which I'll get to in due time.

So first, a little background: Awakening is my first FE game, but I have a decent amount of knowledge about the plot and characters because the game's been out for a while, I'm playing Normal difficulty with no final deaths, and yes, I am entirely aware that the following fuck-up is entirely my fault. That won't stop me from being pissier than episode 195 of South Park.

Essentially, I've been playing through Awakening for a while now, and I got around to marrying the characters to get their kids. I'm not particularly interested in any of them but there's some I do happen to like. I finally managed to grind up some relationships and got a few of the kids, which was fun, despite the fact that they'll serve as little more than pretty trophies in my army while the 10 or so units I actually care about continue to wreck shit and do the actual fighting. I finally get to Severa, who seems interesting from what I know of her; I can at least sympathize with her sentiment of "Chrom, Chrom, Chrom, all you ever talk about is Chrom!" which I have felt very strongly throughout my playthrough. Her deal is that she's not gonna join you when you talk to her like everyone else, because she wants to talk to this one NPC dude first-- Essentially making this a goddamn escort mission. Goooooood. I don't understand WHY she couldn't have just joined with us and then still talked to the guy but whatever.

Just as I'm thinking "ok finally a character who's as sick of Chrom as I am", I go through the level, beat the boss aaaaaaand I don't get Severa. Before I even know what's happened, I've saved, lost the character, and now am sitting with my jaw slacked feeling like Wil E. Coyote as he slowly realizes he just ran straight off the side of that cliff.

So I'll be the first to admit that this fuck up was my fault-- I wasn't really paying attention, I presumed that if I just won the field I'd still get the character, and I was too hasty to save. That was all my bad.

Then I kept thinking about it. Because first off-- The fuck just happened!? I kill the boss, the day is saved-- And then Severa just fucks off and leaves? Didn't she and Lucina and all the kids come back in time to help their parents, e.g. my group? I guess it must have not been all THAT important, because since I didn't play by Severa's rules, she decides "well fuck this" and just waltzes off. So now, in this timeline, Severa's just gonna go hit the stock market and become rich while all her friends and family are off fighting somewhere and I guess she never decides that they might need some help. Then I started thinking; wait, I KILLED the bad guy, the one making NPC man do the fighting. So, why can't Severa just go in and talk with them now? Was it just that SHE wanted to do it, but because I didn't let HER play the hero she's all mad and decided "screw you guys, I'm going home"? I solved the problem-- And yet I still lost! Following this result I looked it up, and indeed, there's no way to get her back.

But alright-- Again, I admit-- I wasn't paying all that much attention. I skip most of the cutscenes and stuff and I go through the dialogue pretty fast if I'm not interested; That whole schpiel I just wrote could be entirely and factually incorrect! Maybe there's a perfectly good story reason why I had to escort her-- Maybe the cutscenes explain it perfectly and I've just made a total dunce of myself because I couldn't keep my thumbs steady and my eyes from glazing over-- Okay, I accept that, and I retroactively retract that complaint-- All that doesn't matter, because what I mostly care about is the gameplay.

So then I started thinking: "Why?" Why did it have to be an escort mission? Why did they decide to do it like this? Was it to make things harder? Well, I wouldn't say it makes things more difficult-- Just more frustrating. I didn't have much DIFFICULTY slashing and hacking my way through the stage, painting the walls with my enemies' blood and unleashing hellfire and twisters upon the hapless foes that dared to step in my way. Hell, Severa didn't even take a tick of damage all the way through and if I hadn't been so hasty, I probably could have cleaned up with time to spare. I mean, the issue was that I just won TOO fast. So why the escort? Was it perhaps to try and teach me (the player) restraint? I guess? Maybe? Was it for the story? Well if it was, it didn't do a very good job-- I mean, why wouldn't Severa just join our cabal and be like "okay, I'll join you-- I just wanna talk to this guy first" and even if we DID kick ass and win the level before she did-- What the hell's stopping her from still talking to this guy? I read up and her thing is that she's trying to convince the guy not to fight for the Boss, so yeah, it'd kind of lose that purpose-- But I still can't imagine that not doing that would be enough to forever separate her from teaming with her future/past family. Again, I could be wrong, but this whole level just felt cheap. And now I find that in order to correct my mistake, I'd have to restart the game, play though ALLLLLL the preceeding chapters, and grind up ALLLLLLL those opponents to marry the units, level them and oh god I could write a whole essay on why this pisses me off.

Oh wait.

But at the end of the day, I am still playing Smash and eventually I'll pick up Awakening again. It's either a testament to the games themselves or probably more likely to my addictive personality that I keep playing them, but I feel that my persistence will eventually HAVE to pay off. I'm fairly sure you can do New Game+ for Awakening and while the thought of doing ALL THAT SHIT again does not in the least appeal to me, I can at least take solace in the fact that I'll have spent hours of my life to win at a stupid video game instead of doing something productive, then proceeded to waste even more typing up a thousand words onto an internet forum that I don't even post on.

Why did I do this.

Was there any point? Will anyone even understand me? Best case scenario people will read this and be like "huh yeah that sounds frustrating". Why do we do the things we do? Are we so desperate for attention? Are we so deeply lonely that we seek the company of anyone who will listen? Or perhaps we are all so egotistical that we believe that anyone will care for what we have said.

In the end, we cannot know the full ramifications of our actions in this life, no more than a pebble can see the ripples that it sends sprawling across the lake's glimmering surface. And aren't we all just pebbles, sending out our ripples as we sink into the bottom, and perhaps, as we settle amongst the mud and dirt and carry off into our sleep, we may finally look upwards and see the ripples of those who come after, and finally realize that it is the symphony of a thousand pebbles, the force of a billion tiny stones, each alone insignificant, but together, shake the waters of the lake in ways both beautiful and terrible, creating an eternal rhythm as the water dances, each drop pushed and scattered into a hectic waltz by the dropping of stone and bursts of ripples-- Perhaps one day we shall all see the tumultuous ocean that we mere pebbles have created.

anyways that's why i hate video games.

Okay, I just started paying attention. WHAT? :edgey:

Because developers think that, by forcing us to babysit some person, whose brain has been exchanged with a pile of shit, it'll cause us to care about them like they are our own family.

Either that, or developers are just assholes who KNOW how hated Escort Missions are and wallow in our misery.

actually it's because Severa is the best so they have to make you work extra-hard to get her

But yeah I'll agree her paralogue was the closest Awakening has to a Guide, Damn It mission; there's no other mission like it in the game and it's very easy to screw up if you don't know what to do beforehand and skip the dialogue (intentionally or otherwise)

That was a hugely entertaining rant spliced with some fair criticisms.

Do I hear a... segue!?

I also agree with Smash Run and the Fire Emblem representation in Smash. Though most has been said, I think I'll add my little rant.

I did like Smash Run at first, like seeing enemies from Rhythm Heaven and stuff. That made me happy. But when I realised that Smash Run was pretty much "Gather power boosts against 15% enemies from Nintendo IPs and 85% the rest from Kid Icarus: Uprising", it fastly became very meh. Especially when I started to see that the Kid Icarus: Uprising bias extended itself even to the trophies and music. I'm no hater of Kid Icarus and I get Sakurai made the game. It was probably much easier to make the enemies from Uprising for Smash Run and the trophies for the 3DS. But I liked seeing recognisable foes from a myriad of different games, not just one game that has the majority of the enemies.

And yeah, it was really annoying when I actually gave a shit and tried to get the power ups (when I first got Smash 3DS). Because it was usually just the dumb race and most of the time if Sonic was an opponent, he immediately exploded ahead like "Lol cya, nerds". So if it wasn't for getting 100% customs, I'd have left it alone.

Don't think I need to talk about Fire Emblem and Smash. There's too many and Corrin annoys me. He/she is the only thing I've not purchased. Out of the entire cast of DLC characters/stages. What more needs to be said? :gumshoe: Doesn't help that all you need to do is sneeze when he/she counters and you die :nick-sweat:

The video games industry's habit of nickel and diming its players with microtransactions, like how they do in free mobile games. It's not enough to buy a game for $80, you have to buy the season pass for like $30 so you can get the same content that a game ten years ago would come with from the get-go.

Hence I never go for mobile games. Or any iDevice game, considering I have majority of the consoles and handhelds, anyway.

I don't know about mobile games. Most games are still playable and lots of fun without spending any money and they are so obvious about the microtransactions that I never would get 'tricked' into spending cash. It makes me believe that the only ones who spend real money on it are kids with access to credit cards or people who have serious addiction issues.

You know what really really really really really really really really REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY grinds my ears as a gamer. Is that kids today don't know the struggle of playing GBC in he dark that most of us wen through when we were kids, and the classic games we grew up on. Like if you told say a kid at the age of 10 of exmple bout a clssic game they would say "What is that? I never heard of it." :sadshoe:

I admit, I'm old enough for it, but never had a GBC - so I don't know those struggles, either.

You know what grinds my gears as a gamer? People saying that today's games are always, always, always better, compared to the games of 15 or 20 years ago.

I'm not an oldschool fangirl. And yes, games have improved over the years. But they act as if the games from earlier are terrible and 100% unplayable these days. Which isn't true. I still love playing the first Harvest Moon game. Sure, it is horribly outdated, the tool system is meh (and a minor annoyance, once you gain animals AND crops), the love interests don't have much of a personality and the game does end once you reach Summer Year 3, but it's still fun to play.

Much as I like some of the features added over the course of the series, sometimes playing the game lacking those features can be good, too. I don't have to micromanage fertilizer, have to make sure to keep some crops to rank up their level later on, I don't have to collect something as part of my goal and I don't have to worry about doing something that is a feature forced onto me, when I don't want it. Say, SoS. Enjoyable game (I find it kinda boring after a while, though), but I don't like how you are forced to do a conquest when someone wants your field the first time around. Same with... Magical Melody. I love that game, but I hate how the rucksack was handled.

Which is another thing that grinds my gears: a series that suddenly changes your inventory.

Keeping the Magical Melody example, you have to upgrade your rucksack, to gain access to a total of 15 slots. That's fine, rucksack upgrades have been a thing. But previous, and later, games of the series had items STACK in your rucksack. Which was removed in Magical Melody. For some reason I cannot fathom. So, even if you have a fully upgraded rucksack, you still have a very, very limited amount of space. And that thing was also done for the fridge and other storage in that game. Just... why?

Especially since Magical Melody was released AFTER A Wonderful Life, which exchanged rucksack with Hugeass-Menu. And that allowed items to stack and not have me give all of the stack items to a person, if I gave them a gift. They took one, I kept the rest.

its come to my attention that Smash might be slowly driving me insane

Like Pavlov's Dog I have become conditioned by the game-- For me, the food is punishment, failure, and loss, and the bell, the chainsaw sword-weilding white haired dragon morphing motherfucking bell whose ringing sets my ears aflame and my mind ablaze with rage hot enough to melt heat itself, the bell is that whose name I scream to the heavens with the intensity of six billion operatic narwhals filling the depths of the ocean and shaking the bones of every vertebrate for 5,000 miles with the tibre of their endless bellows; And that name is: "Corrin".

Like Ahab and the mighty white whale, so too have I become obsessed to my very core with this great and mortal enemy. The obsession fuels me, carries me, like a bag of beef jerky hastily shoved down my throat enriching my taste buds with the delicious juices of hate and vengeance. I have become a monster. A horrific beast moved, not by electrical signals dancing like butterscotch fairies through the web of neurons within my skull; but rather by the infernal heaving smokestack of spite and fury. The machine that for fuel takes not coal nor wood; But takes the nick of the magical chainsaw blade that blisters my character, takes the six-hundred-foot long smash attack dealt, like a sniper shot through the head, takes the ridiculously overpowered counter move, takes the spinning drill strike that bores through more than just the pixels of my electronic avatar but drives through the console, into my thumbs, through my arms, rocketing through my nerves like adrenaline and finally piercing my very soul-- The machine within me burns endlessly, moving with little regard for sanity nor health. It will keep moving so long as there is fuel-- So long as the white haired demon still dances across the stage, slipping past that F-Air that I TOTALLY should have landed, then stabbing back with that goddamn SPIKE KICK, and don't even get me started on the GODDAMN STUN SHOT

When I close my eyes, I see it. The face of despair. My face-- Reflected in the crimson-tinged screen of my 3DS, as I stare down into yet another "WINNER: CORRIN" screen. As hope fades from my eyes like the last specks of sunlight before the all-consuming night. I strike furiously at the buttons, desperate for one more shot-- If only I can dodge that move, if only I hadn't attacked just then--! I need it-- The machine growls and sputters, barreling forward as I jam the button, ready to begin anew-- An undying sheep barreling once more to the slaughter.

But the rematch never comes. The opponent has left the game. The machine continues to move, its momentum so great that it momentarily does not realize that its fuel has just burnt out. Then, realization hits. The machine goes quiet.

The 3DS tumbles from my hands, and I soon follow. What happens next is a blur-- I eat, I sleep, I type aimlessly at my computer. But all I can think of is the battle. The machine hungers for victory. It does not question the futility of its mission nor the consequences-- It merely seeks to fullfill its task.

When I come to again, I am holding the game once more. Enemies come and go, but much like in Dragonball Z, all the battles are meaningless. Who wins, who loses-- It is all irrelevant, for at the end of the day, Corrin always wins. There are no Corrins today. I can rest. The bell is not rung-- I am myself, at least for now.

But the dragon will return. It is only a matter of time.

And like a moth to the flame, I pick up the 3DS once more.

also the new Smash update deleted all my old replays, so that's fucking fantastic

Also, this is just really stupid. I don't mind that the replays get deleted, but can they not just give people at least some warning before releasing the update, so people can actually get their left over Wii U replays off the console? Sure the doesn't help with the 3DS, but you can skip the update and film them, but with the Wii U the update is downloaded whether you like it or not, and the only way to stop it is too turn off your modem. And since they usually release it the day the announce these balance patches, they're basically just saying "also here's a random balance patch better say goodbye to your Wii U replays lol have fun".

You know what really grinds my gear as a gamer? Pointless, super-difficult 'difficulty'.

And by that I mean "Every hit you get is an instant KO, even if you have the Revive item equipped". I'm sorry, but that is NOT fun for me, it is NOT difficult, it's just fucking cheap. I am not that type of perfectionist who wants to spend hours playing the same battle over and over, until I can do a No Damage and NOT die. Fatal Frame II does this with Sae. Yes, she is technically an extra boss, but I was specifically told that she does NOT have a One-Hit KO touch... then again, I suppose I AM playing on Nightmare difficulty. This is exactly why I don't PLAY on the hardest difficulties. It's not fun. It's infuriating.

The only thing I can say is thank fuck that Sae cannot be fought until New Game Plus, at which point you can skip that stupid scene prior.

I've never had anything that grinds my gears, up until yesterday where I was playing Bravely Default and it made me remember something: RPGs that don't have a continue option, or just don't load before the last fight. I mean, C'MON! There are some of us that forget to save after HOURS of grinding and HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE (as Kefka would put it, haha) to get all that progress ALL OVER AGAIN because I lost in a fight whilst grinding. What's that? 90% sprays and 10% shit I'll never use!? Wow! Is it my goddamn birthday or what?

if that's how it's gonna be, then don't even bother giving me anything.

Random drops in MMOs usually just annoy the hell out of me. "What's that? Want to get better gear? No problem, you just have to do this one twenty-minute long level with less than a 1% chance of obtaining said item. Oh by the way, you need keys to enter said level, and you can only farm for those keys at a rate of one key per five minutes. Have fun!" I'm looking at you, Warframe!

Auto-saving. In general, it doesn't bother me, if it isn't done in a way that is infuriating.

I prefer to have control over when I save. For example, I could be called away to something and have to leave; Saving when I want to helps in not annoying me that I just lost a good chunk of progress, because the last auto-save location was a while ago. When auto-saving is done in a way like in Lightning Returns, where you have somewhat frequent auto-saves occuring and have the option to manually save whenever you want to, it's great. It means that I am in control of saving, but I am not punished if I somehow slip up or make a mistake and lose progress.

It bugs me when the auto-save moments seem to be random. Fatal Frame V has an auto-save only a minute after the final chapter begins... and then not another one until you finish Yuuri's first section. Which can take quite a bit, considering there are several encounters in the way and are less likely to leave you alone because she's drenched. You don't get a lot of items (unless you spend points on them prior to the chapter's beginning) and while there is the embers to remove any wetness, it's pointless because it's raining in the area. Game Over, you can only restart from the last Savepoint... which was the beginning of that chapter.

You know what grinds my gears as a gamer? Videogames demanding I deeply care for a character, whom I have met only a few minutes ago.

I do not care for characters easily. You cannot plunk someone in front of me, state their name and then believe I will throw my life away for them at the drop of a hat, because you want me to. I need time to get to know the character, to see if they would even be worth saving! You could have me doing dangerous stuff for someone who turns out to be a complete asshole.

And this also doesn't work if they plunk the character in front of me and say, "You have (childhood friends/cousins/lovers) relationship, you care for them" and expect me to swallow it. Yeah, okay, the character may be a childhood friend of my player character. Not mine, specifically. I don't know anything about this person, except that we have X relationship. And done. That's all I get for "Why should I care about this person?"

Especially if, most of the time, I'm not even told anything about this person beyond X relationship and Care For Them.
How am I supposed to give a shit, if I don't know this person?

I can understand if they want to get to the meat of the game and not spend an extra long introduction/tutorial so I can get to know the person, but could they maybe have me spend screentime with them beyond 5 to 15 minutes, before they are kidnapped and I need to go care?

With a relationship like, say, parents or siblings, I do absolutely understand. Those are the type of people where I would care instantly, because they are family.

i've been through 91 loot boxes in overwatch and gotten about 4 legendary skins. any others i've had to buy myself by grinding up the cash I may or may not get in a box. and i've gotten god knows how many sprays and player icons, which wouldnt be so bad, if I didn't get fucking duplicates all the time. Seriously, Blizzard-- Fucking DUPLICATES. Thanks. Real good.

Each time I worked my way up, I felt sorta proud of myself; I made it all the way to level 90! That's a big milestone, right? What do I get for it? 3 sprays and a voice line. For fuck's sake.

Know what grinds my gears as a gamer? When the game does not allow me to have consequences for my choices.

Specifically, if picking something that leads to a bad ending ends up not counting as a bad ending. I pick it, I go through watching the scenes of death, implied destruction or senseless sacrifice - whatever it shows - and then, wupp, turns out I can just reload easily. If I picked a bad ending choice, let it count as an ending! Give me the ending screen, ask me if I want to save over my current file, just... something! So it doesn't feel like you just wasted my time by showing me a 'glorious' Game Over screen! Case in point.

Spoiler: Danganronpa
Choosing to call Kirigiri out on her lying, she gets killed and the rest of the survivors remain in the locked down school. Asahina, and maybe Fukawa, are now the sole mothers - and Fukawa has died. Sure, they may be happy in their prison right now, but any future is impossible as they cannot leave and the air filtration will stop to function when Enoshima dies, anyway. Leading to them or their children to die horribly slow deaths.

Oh, wait, no! It was just a What If scenario of Naegi's! Don't worry, TOTALLY NO CONSEQUENCE THAT YOU JUST THOUGHT OF INDIRECTLY KILLING SOMEONE!

Spoiler: Devil Survivor 2: 'Astrolabe' Ending
In this ending, you choose to follow along with Miyako's plan. You and the party will place yourself into a machine that will leave them in a consciousless, near-death state and put their Administrative Authority onto Alcor - effectively turning him into a real Adminstrator and stopping the Void from consuming earth. Alcor regresses the world, now with his friends' sort-of-deaths on his mind, but watches over the world they sacrificed themselves for. And, if they want peace to remain, this will have to continue on for eternity...

Only, then it turns out that it's pointless. Alcor will be bound by the Rules Of Administrators and needs to step down, when the next chosen Administrator comes up and demands the space. It's shown that, ultimately, the sacrifice of the party doesn't matter because the next Adminstrator just had the world be swallowed by the Void, anyway, because earth has no potential without our party...

Wait! It's just a creepy twist, compared to the heartbreak of watching your beloved party and protagonist enter the machine with some last words. Don't worry, it's basically the Game Over screen. You can go back and tell Miyako to shove it.

If you are gonna create such a bad ending, at least have the BALLS to make it count!

You know what grinds my gears as a gamer? Other gamers who are just plain lazy.

The ones who want someone else to do the job for them and then just reap the benefits of it. Now, I'm not talking about my husband asking me to do the Neochu mission for him in FF XIII - he was having difficulty with it and I asked him if I should do it as a favor. And I can understand wanting a savefile that is at an X point in game, because your savefile got corrupted or deleted and you don't want to do everything over again.

No, the ones who ask for things that make the game easier for them, when it isn't necessary. Case in point, the Multiplayer function in A New Beginning and Story of Seasons. I can understand wanting certain items from someone - a Silkie Egg, the Yam Seeds that are required to advance the plot but aren't available until Autum Year 2 when you generally get to that point a year earlier, one or two specific gemstones that you can only get in the mine that you don't have unlocked yet (I am mostly the last one) - since those can be difficult to acquire and have long-term benefits.

No, the ones who want to have all sorts of stuff that is the max 5 Star ranks. Super early on in the game. As in, before they even properly get to Summer Year 1, where the plot actually takes off. Getting a crop or tree to maxium star ranks is not all that difficult. Especially with trees, since they take a good 2 1/2 seasons to mature, if you fertilize them every day, you tend to have about 4 Stars on the fruit when you can harvest it. Yes, it takes a while to get higher Star ranks. But it isn't that difficult. Maybe one in-game year.

Yes, it's work. But this is a farm simulation game. The point of the game IS to work on your farm. If you don't want to do any kind of work on your farm, why are you playing this game? That'd be like playing tetris, but not liking the whole block-fitting part.

I am against developing DLC before the main game even comes out. Just include it in the base game. I know Ace Attorney is doing this but that doesn't mean I approve.

I'm officially fed up with the DMCA. I'd post this on the other board, but it was a game related issue that sparked my need to vent.

AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) has been struck with a DMCA takedown notice on most of its hosting sites. This project has been in the works for years, and it's finally been fully released to the public, but rather than nip the whole thing in the bud while the project was first starting up, they waited until after it was fully released to do anything about it.

Here's the thing... as far as I know, the developer is receiving no money for this. It isn't a 1:1 remake of the original, simply with better graphics. If it was, I could understand; however, this is an expanded remake, much like Metroid Zero Mission was an expanded remake of Metroid. This isn't available to play on any Nintendo console. If it was, I could see how that would take away from people buying the original on the virtual console, so I'd understand were that the case.

So, tell me... How does this DMCA takedown make Nintendo money? How many people out there will see this and think, "Gee, I was really hoping to play that fan remake, but now that it's not available, I guess I'll just have to buy the original?" Seriously! If it's a sucky adaptation, no one will want it anyway, but if it's a good adaptation, you'd be better off contacting the guy and asking if he'd be willing to sell you the source code. Then, you could sell the game on Steam or something, and make money off a "official" fan game release for Metroid's 30th anniversary, rather than just piss everyone off.

It seriously flabbergasts me that Capcom, with its string of questionable business practices in the past, is more reasonable about fan games than Nintendo. Heck, they even allowed a fan to make a Street Fighter x Mega Man game for one of its anniversaries, and even release it through official channels. And they didn't even make a dime off of it, other than showing a sign of good will towards a fanbase that was rather ticked off at them at the time. (And given that Metroid's last official release was Other M, and its next official release is Federation Force, I don't think Nintendo is in a much better position).

I realize this rant seems more aimed at Nintendo than the DMCA, but this wouldn't be such an issue if the DMCA wasn't so broken. I see people on YouTube post an anime opening, for instance, with no changes or edits made to either the audio or video, and it's left up there. On the other hand, other people will post that same anime opening, but with significant changes to the visuals, and it gets taken down because the copyright bots detect copyrighted music. Never mind that they somehow missed it in the other video, for some reason, this video is more of a threat to the IP.

UPDATE: There's apparently reason to believe that Nintendo is not responsible for this baloney, but rather someone claiming to represent them, while in actuality having no ties to them. It would explain why the developer never received a C&D prior to this point. If that's the case, however, it's just further proof that the DMCA is ridiculously broken. If someone can claim to represent a company and take down perfectly legal fan works without proof that the works are legitimately infringing on a company's IP, we really need to get a new system in place.

I don't know if I talked about this here, but I really don't understand people who are "loyal" to companies. Why should I care, or be emotionally attached to a game company? They are interested in my money, I am interested in what they can offer to me in terms of entertainment. Even if a company consistently makes decisions that satisfy me, I won't be their "fan" or eternally loyal to them.

Just saying this because I was talking to a guy who is all about Sony. Sony this, Sony that. Sony is perfect. Ooh, Sony. Then I told him that if killing him somehow increased Sony's sales by 10-15%, and they had a safe and clandestine way of killing him, they would. lol

I love Minecraft a lot but I'm starting to dislike it because of all these little kids are ruining the game for me. All my little brother talks about is Minecraft. Because of this the community has gone down the crapper and I think Minecraft is super cringeworthy now, it most likely shares the same community with Five Nights At Freddy's. The only reason I play it now is for mods, servers, and creative.

My 12-year-old brother is one of these annoying kids you are talking about, I think.
Totally addicted to Minecraft. What's worse, he plays Minecraft while he is talking to his brat friends on Skype, who are playing Minecraft at the same time. And he makes a lot of noise. He and his group of friends wanted to create a YouTube Channel at some point. Shit makes me lol.
