No More HeroesTopic%20Title

AKA Game of the Year 2008(Even though Suda decided to kill my favourite character off in the first trailer) -_-

From Wiki:
Quote:
No More Heroes (ノーモア・ヒーローズ, Nō Moa Hīrōzu?) is an upcoming video game being directed by Goichi Suda (aka Suda 51), developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, and published by Marvelous Interactive Inc., Spike, Ubisoft and Rising Star Games for the Wii video game console. The game was previously titled both Heroes and HERO'S.[2]

The game is not a sequel to Suda's earlier game, Killer7, but an all-new game running on a new engine. Though the two games have stylistic similarities, Suda has said that while Killer7 focused on political issues, No More Heroes will focus on social ones.[3]

Quote:
The story revolves around Travis Touchdown, a stereotypical otaku who lives in poverty in the fictional town of Santa Destroy, California. After winning a beam katana in an internet auction he becomes a hitman and kills another hitman, Helter Skelter, which earns him rank 11 by the UAA, the governing body of assassins. For the rest of the game the player lives Travis' life, earning money and climbing the ranks of the UAA.

Quote:
Unlike Killer7, the player will control the character Travis Touchdown only. The game will have a free roaming world,[4] allowing Travis to move around on foot or on his motorcycle—the "Schpel Tiger".[5] Game play is open-ended, with the concession that the player must kill the top ten assassins for the storyline to progress. There will exist numerous part time job side quests to earn money and gain additional weapons. The player will also level up through experience points, but the exact details have not been revealed.

Control will be handled through the Wii Remote and Nunchuk attachment, with the Remote controlling the katana beam and the Nunchuk moving Travis. Most attacks will be performed using the "A" button, with certain other moves, including finishing strikes and sword lock breaks, being executed by following on-screen instructions. Further, since the sword runs on batteries, the player will have to shake the remote from time to time to recharge it.[6] While the sword will not follow the exact position of the remote, it will be able to distinguish between three different height levels and the angle of attacks. Successful execution of these moves will provide additional chances for attacks. Travis has also been shown demonstrating professional wrestling maneuvers to subdue opponents, including a Dragon Suplex, done by manipulating both the Wii Remote and Nunchuck.

I'm not too big of a fan of Travis so far, but hopefully he'll seems a lot better than he does in the 51 video clips. Plus, he's inspired by that guy from Jackass, and I really can't think of a worse source of inspiration. I'm mainly looking forward to the story though of course; where Killer 7 was political, SUDA 51 said he's going to grapple with social issues, so I'm excited about what he plans on bringing to the board.

That, and it looks like it's going to be a competent use of the Wii and not patronize Wii owners, which is a rarity in itself.

Sorry to say, but the more I anticipate this game, the more I dread the way it's gonna end up.

I too am not particularly fond of Travis, but I realise that he needs to be the type of character that he is to insure that Suda's visions are realised. I have complete faith. :)

Don't worry, it's made by SUDA 51, guaranteed greatness.

While this game looks interesting, I've pretty much run out of money for the next decade. Will probably get it somewhere in the future.

I've wanted this game so badly for about half a year now. It looks absolutely amazing. The character and weapon design is really well done, if I do say so myself.

Uh, Gears, you do know that Suda 51 has only made one good game before, right? Ever tried Michigan? The dude is incredibly experimental in his stuff (too experimental), and until Killer7, that's all they were-- interesting experiments.

I'd like to believe that he found his niche with Killer7, and it seems he really is actually trying to make this a good game this time around... But I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I've heard good things about the Silver Case. Too bad the DS remake won't hit U.S. shores.

First time I saw the trailer (around the time Wii first came out?) I was highly interested in it, yet I knew completely nothing about it. But then I hear Travis uses a beam katana that he won in an online auction and I laughed. There's also the fact that he's an otaku (moe...!), uses wrestling moves, the way you recharge, and you save by taking a #2. Next to Brawl, this is the most anticipated game for me.

BTW, the official websites seems to be updating short clips weekly and there are some wallpapers too.

To tell you the truth, I'm not really interested in this game. It may constitute a rental for me, but I doubt I'll buy it anytime soon.

Thing is, Michigan actually sounds interesting. However, I never did play it.

Sadly, it was interesting. Seeing the action through a camera viewfinder, run out of batteries and you die? In theory and concept, it's awesome, and could've been great.

But he sort of... well, wasted it. Horribly.

To be honest, NMH sounds like a 'concept world' that's lacking the storyline or background to really make it worth playing.

Which is perhaps why I like his games so very much, there's absolutely nothing around that can be compared to his works. They're bizarre, they're unique, they're... Gears. >_>

Oh, and I don't think Killer7 is his best game. :S

And I adored michigan, sure, the gameplay was technically fucking terrible... but I like to think that SUDA did that to create a certain mood, kind of like the archaic mood in Rule of Rose. >____>

"During his speech "Punk's Not Dead" at the 2007 Game Developers Conference, Goichi Suda announced that The Silver Case and The Silver Case Word 25 will be remade for the Nintendo DS. During an interview with Gamasutra Suda confirmed that the game will see both an English translation and a worldwide release.[1]"

We'll see when we get there. They haven't released a lot, and Ubi's translating/publishing it... which makes me dreading it even more.

I don't know if they're planning on doing the translation job in-house, but they are publishing it in the States. Myself, I've pretty much disliked every single product Ubi has released, and the fact that their Montreal offices (you know, the ones that made Assassin's Creed) are a stone's throw away from here is just a constant kick in the face that, for all the international hooplah some people have made out of Montreal being a good video game city, all it does is phail massively.

To be even more honest, NMH reminds me a lot of God Hand, which, while fun, could have been so much more with a semi-coherent narrative.
Re: No More HeroesTopic%20Title

Coherency would have ruined God Hand.

I hate to agree with Gears, but he's right on that one. Coherency and God Hand just wasn't meant to be.

I knew this game reminded me of Killer 7, I saw some screenshots and the animationstyle is very simillar. I found out that it's being made by the same person(people).
I might pick this one up.

Actually, it really could have. "Coherent" doesn't mean "sane," by which I'm not saying God Hand was too wacky, just that it was lacking an actual substantial back story to make it anything more than "HOLY SHIT I'M THE MOTHERFUCKING FIST OF THE NORTH STAR."

More to the point, it basically made God Hand fun to play once and then not really again.
Re: No More HeroesTopic%20Title

Um what, God Hand is always fun to play through again. A storyline would have added absolutely nothing to the game, in fact, I dare say it would make me less likely to play through again.

Yeah, I'm REALLY looking forward to this game. It looks amazing. In fact, my wallpaper is one of the ones they released on the official site the other day. The only thing I don't like is that it comes out in February, so I'm going to have to wait longer to get it because it's lower on my priority list than other games that come out that month. Those games being Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Lost Odyssey ='( Oh well, I still support Suda all the way on this one, and I'm just sorry I can't add to the initial release sales when the game comes out!
Re: No More HeroesTopic%20Title

Neither of those games are on my list at all, so I'm good. However, Endless Ocean and Okami also come out in February. :S

You know looking at this game, I find the concept of the story funny, but they are making it serious...too serious. Another thing about it's story is that it's just asking for Jack Thompson to complain about it.
