So, who's excited about the new Avatar series? I know I am! It was announced in Comic Con, and I was surprised that nobody has said anything about it here! So I decided to make this thread and show off the trailer!

Apparently Aang died at the age of 60 and Korra, a waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe, becomes the new Avatar. She already knows how to bend water, earth, and fire, and now she has to find an airbender teacher, which just so happens to be Aang's son, the current last airbender.

What do you guys think of it from the trailer? It looks awesome, but I imagine that it'll be too short, since Korra only needs to learn airbending but as long as they play it out well. Also, I hope that she would be able to speak with the spirits of all the previous Avatars. I wanna see 60 year old Aang. :redd:

Aang was a faggot, having only tapped the waterbending chick enough to have one kid.

Yay, there's a thread about this! My friend went to Comic-Con and saw the trailer, so when I saw it I was like ;ALKDJFSLKJDFSALFKJAS and stuff.
The animation is beautiful as always and I had not known what age Aang died so I'm learning new things from this topic already BD
She looks older than the Gaang was in the last series, so I'm thinking they're trying to keep it fresh by showing a slightly different atmosphere and point of view (also, the new cities everywhere look very pretty and futuristic). Not much more to add except that I'm VERY excited for this and I'm hoping to hear an airing date soon!

I'm skeptical about this but I'll just have to wait and see. It looks slightly promising though.

Now I just remembered that I never got to finish watching the whole series. Hmm, something to think about...

I haven't watch the whole thing either. I have the first season but was waiting for the other le bundle set whatever. Look like only the first one is getting that so I have to buy the two regular ones. I never watched the whole thing on tv since I just stopped watching tv much and forgot when the new episodes came on.

I also need to watch all this anime I've been buying. I also need to get back to buying the new vols.

I'm excited, though I should point out that it's now The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra. James Cameron threatened a lawsuit if the series had "Avatar" as the main title.

Ugh. Stupid lawsuits.
I prefer The Last Airbender (The animated series not that... garbage that is called a "movie") over his Avatar movie which was hugely overrated IMO.

Yeah, I've known about this. It just feels weird calling it The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra. In my heart, it will always be Avatar.

And since Avatar is owned by James Cameron, we might get sued for calling the images next to our messages avatars. Someone get the number for the Anything Agency. We need a good defense!

I am looking forward to this greatly! :redd: But, there is no one who could ever replace Toph. I really expect the series to be great and I hope that we have an amazing cast of fun characters like Sokka and Toph and Zuko. I'm sad that she has already mastered three elements, it's what really added to the story. But I can't wait! :godot: (As long as they don't make any more terrible movies)

I was going to make this argument in the first place but I figured the thing the past airbending Avatar said

"Your duty is to the world"

So I figure Aang would try to repopulate the world with Airbenders, that being his duty.

Also, if the airbending monks couldn't have sex then how can they reproduce?

Soo, ermmm...

Not sure if anyone's still interested in Korra on here but the first and second episode are free-to-watch on nick.com (U.S. only though). And if you are living outside the U.S., just try Google.

So, for those who have already seen the episodes: what are your impressions? do you like Korra or not? what do you think about the story so far? and do you have any favorite characters yet?

As for me, I really like Korra. She's well, pretty cool and I just really love how she beats the shit out of people. I really love Tenzin as well, he's the perfect mentor for her and his kids are adorable and hilarious too. Oh and the animation is just stunning, everything's so beautiful, lively and I probably could spent hours talking about how beautiful everything looks. The music's quite perfect and I really like the jazzy elements that they've added to the songs.

To sum up my thoughts:
- everything looks and sounds beautiful
- the characters are great so far and so is the story
- Pro-bending has to be the most coolest sport ever
- if you haven't watched it yet, DO IT

Oh and Mako is a handsome fella.

Just saw the first two episodes (thanks for the link, Nemesis). It looks good. The new setting might take a little getting used to, but a lot of the elements (no pun intended) that made the show's predecessor great are still present. It's a bit early for me to say how much I like it, other than that I liked the first two episodes enough that I will probably watch the rest of the series as more episodes come out.

I just saw the premiere last week and I already love this show.

Even though the setting is now the 1920s and Republic City is really different to the settings from the previous series, I don't think it's "too Westernized" at all, contrary to what most people are saying. You can still clearly see the predominant Asian influences, though this time around the setting gives off more of a Japanese than Chinese feel, in my opinion. Granted, the backgrounds are still stunning; wonderfully done "scenery porn", if I may use the term.

As for the characters, I like Korra as well. Her stubbornness gets a bit annoying at times, but hey, she's a teenager after all. Personality-wise, I got a lot of Sokka vibes from her, actually. I don't have any screenshots at the moment but there's one scene with Tenzin (before Korra starts her airbending training in episode 2) where Korra's animations and dialogue totally mirror those of Sokka from season 1 of the original series. Oh yeah, and Korra's really hot, too. Consider me another addition to the "Korrasexuals" club.

I also like Tenzin and most of his kids, but his youngest son Meelo scares the shit out of me.

As for the brothers Mako and Bolin, I'd just have to say Mako gives off so many Zuko vibes it's not even funny. A c ouple of times while watching episode 2 I had trouble believing that this was a new character and NOT Zuko without the scar and angst. Dunno. Anyways, Bolin is a cool, happy-go-lucky kind of character so I'd like to see what his reactions will be once the main trio gets caught in the whole Equalist problem.

Chief Lin Beifong, on the other hand, is possibly the second-most interesting character to me so far (the first being Amon, but I know diddly-squat about him right now soI can't say much other than he looks fucking badass and is voiced by Stever Blum, therefore IS fucking badass). Forget the fact that her initial appearance gave me a mental image of a young Wendy Oldbag; I started liking this character the minute she spoke. Her overall demeanor and relationship with Korra is reminiscent of the Chief Barbara Gordon -- Terry dynamic from Batman Beyond, and I do like it when a "chosen one" type of character openly clashes with the official authority of a certain district. Oh, and the whole "I'm keepin' my eyes on you" gesture exchange with Korra was bloody amusing, too.

Basically, I'm really looking forward to the new series. It's looking brilliant so far, so who knows? It may even surpass the original in terms of epicness. This IS Bryke we're talking about. They won't let the fans down.

P.S. I hate to be the one to bring the controversial topic in, but... what's with the talk about Korra x Mako being Bryke's "apology" for Katara x Zuko not happening? LOL.

I watched episode 2 recently as well, so very fabulous <3

To be honest when the shipteasy stuff popped up ("We're not 'together' together") I sighed a little inside. I didn't like those aspects of the original so much and it makes it seem really... teenage-y and less like the Avatar I remembered. Then I figured, hey, 70 years have passed and it figures culture and standards have changed too.

The two brothers were more, I dunno, slick than I expected, considering everyone in the Gaang was a total dork (ahh, Zuko). Well, we'll see how this trio bounces off each other.

And Mako is just SO Zuko, even though it's really strange because he's supposed to be cold and aloof and the total opposite of Zuko.

Why is Korra's opposing element air?

Also, as a Brit, I cannot help but laugh whenever the phrase "a society where benders and non-benders can live in peace" come up. Oh, such unfortunate terminology.

It's because of her personality and overall attitude towards being the Avatar, I guess. Even at age 4 Korra was already aggressive and was thus able to easily earthbend and firebend along with her normal waterbending. Aang had trouble earthbending and firebending because as an Air Nomad, he has a naturally passive nature, so those two elements which focus on aggressiveness aren't as easy for him to learn. Plus the whole "burning Katara" thing basically made him too scared to firebend again until season 3. Same case with Korra, though on a more antithesis kind of manner. Like what the White Lotus guy said in the first episode, she completely ignores the spiritual side of being the Avatar. So I guess that's why she's having difficulty airbending.

Ah yes, I wondered what the show was like for Brits, too. I do remember the title of the original series beig changed from "Avatar: The Last Airbender" to "Avatar: The Legend of Aang". So you don't just bleep out the word "bender" or change it to "controller" or "manipulator" or something? :P

Amon is complete hax. Guy seems to be able to dodge anything. I'm glad that Korra's team lost the pro bending finals because they would have likely had their bending taken away if they won. And that other team that beat them got their bending taken away after cheating the win... they deserved their fates.

This series. It is amazing. I still didn't get to catch up on the original series, I caved in a while ago and ended up catching up completely. I am just so impressed with it all. Just...so impressed.

I mean those newsreel-style recaps at the beginning...GENIUS. The 1920s is one of my favorite decades to study and this show really evokes it so well.

Spoiler: Season finale
I guess an explosion where we can safely assume both Noatak and Tarrlok are dead without Nickelodeon showing bits and pieces of their charred bodies still falls in the realm of TV-Y7-FV.

But, yeah, more twists than a Twizzler in that finale. I wonder where they'll pick up at for season 2.

IMHO the ending was too clear for one season. I mean, 'that kind of ending' supposed to make everything clear;

Spoiler: lingering fan question before the season finale
1) How's Korra's bending (and the others) after being taken? Their bending is restored.
2) Will Amon and Tarrlok die? They did.
3) How the Republic City will become? Conquered by Equalist or not? Not exactly...
4) Will Korra master Air Bending? Yeah, obviously.

The ending left nothing to be questioned except Kya's whereabout and the further story of Commander Bummi.

Ok, I'm reviving this topic, just as I'm reviving my activity here.

I marathoned "Korra". It was quite an experience. To be quite honest, the first two episodes did not hook me nearly as much as I thought they would. Maybe I was too in shock with the whole "Welcome to 1920!!!!!1!11!" theme to actually become engrossed, but as the episodes progressed, I became more and more sucked into it. Thank goodness, too, because the final two episodes were fantastic in my opinion. Of course, I do hold Kechap's conerns about the finale as well.

Spoiler:
With so many plot threads tied up nicely at the final 5 minutes of the show (Korra's bending? BACK! Korra and Mako? Totally a couple! Amon coming back? Of course not!) what is season 2 supposed to be about, now? It definitely shows its 12-episode miniseries roots there.

But I can't wait for season two! Yes!
