There's been a few topics about One Piece here, mainly it vs something else or what have you. But it's time for a topic all about One Piece.

Talk about anything. The manga, the anime (sub or dub), the series in general.

Since I've just finished watching the latest dvd, I'll mention how freaking awesome Funimation are doing on the Enies Lobby arc. Like, Goddamn. They've seriously stepped things up a notch since Water 7. Too epic for words :wacky-edgy: I miss Brand New World as the opening, though. It was my favourite by far and Crazy Rainbow just doesn't fit Enies Lobby at all. It's decent as an opening, but unfitting for such an epic and tense arc.

Away we go! Bring yer One Piece related discussions here :phoenix:

Ahh so Funimation's finally on Enies Lobby now? My god that was my favorite arc in the manga. *drools*
Lately I've been behind in the manga, and I'm still on the last stretch of the Punk Hazard arc. Gotta catch up on that soon.

I haven't watched the anime in a while now. I stopped after the Enies Lobby arc ended. I need to get round to watching them again.

Luffy is one of my all time favourite anime characters.

So Funimation's dub of Enies Lobby draws to a close. Wow. It's perfect, exactly as I'd hoped. Suffice to say I can't wait for the next DVD, and especially when they get to Thriller Bark (since once they finish that, I can finally purchase Strong World :sillytrucy: ) Already heard Brook's VA, and apparently he was in a band before his career in voice acting, so no worries on Bink's Sake.

On a manga/chapter related note, finally got to read chapter 731 and DOOOOOOOOD :beef: Like.....what......just....the fuck.......my mind's everywhere. It's everywhere, just not in my head :meekins: Dressrosa is bringing so much to the table. Oda's going ham now :ron-jazz:

What, so Funimation made a good dub for One Piece? I lost track of the anime around two years ago so I really need to find some way to catch up on it--and this sounds like a golden opportunity.

I can testify to being caught up with the manga at least.

Yep, it's probably one of the best dubs, especially Season 4 and 5. Doesn't hurt that they've got a really awesome guy heading the dub, making sure that everything is as close to the source material as possible. They know how big of a show they've got, so they really give it their all.

They made collections of the first 3 seasons (until the end of Skypeia) and they're dirt cheap since it's a re-release. Like, 25-30 episodes a pop for the same price as a regular DVD. Season 4 is all the Foxy shenanigans and Water 7, and season 5 is Enies Lobby/Post Enies Lobby and all the filler up until Thriller Bark. Those are recent, so they're the regular sets (12-13 episodes a set).

one piece good

such animate

very adventure

I regularly followed the English translated manga up to volume 63, both because it was cheaper than buying the DVD sets at the time and because I didn't care to marathon 600+ episodes of amazing technicolor animation. I might start following the manga again but it will be a while before I get back into the anime.

And the dub finally reaches the end of the Post-Enies Lobby Arc and the end of the Water 7 Saga as a whole. Well, with one very important event aside, at least. But that's somewhere else. Water 7 is all but finished now, and they did damn good. Bring on Thriller Bark, Funimation, and a whole heap of new voices for us to hear!

I only watched subbed. I'm a few episodes behind with Punk Hazard / Dressrosa, but my boyfriend and I are watching the episodes today (even though he's already caught up). Then I can read the chapters that I haven't read yet.

Spoiler: You'll click this anyway, but
I need to read Chapter 729, where Doflamingo and Law fight. My boyfriend already told me what happened, though. :sadshoe:

I'm not too far behind, though.

I'm caught up now. :pearl-blush:

And with that, Funimation's dub of Season 5 is over. The latest DVD was interesting, since I've never seen the Lovely Land arc, and it was pretty good for filler. The main highlight of the DVD however, was Ace vs Blackbeard. Been a while since I've seen and heard any of these characters' voices and they still hold up. One thing I noticed was that Blackbeard even has his signature laugh, so I guess they're giving the rest of the cast them now. Makes me cringe for the very thought of Gekko Moriah :nick-sweat:

Speaking of, Thriller Bark is in May, and I can't wait. Yohohohoho!

Aww man, I'm still watching One Piece after like a year - okay, I made a short break but still - .. when will this anime ever end?

It's like an unbreakable bond of glorious pirates. :grey:

Oh shit, this topic again? :ack: Yeah, so Thriller Bark is underway. Pretty unique (even for this series). Voices are pretty much spot on. And Ian Sinclair is just nailing Brook's voice in every scene he's in. Probably one of the best in the series, in all honestly. This guy, man. Born to play the gentleman skeleton. A nice little preview of Lola's voice with her zombie, sounds pretty good. Laughing my ass off with how crazy she sounds while chasing Absalom (who also sounds great). Perona is amazing, despite her signature laugh being very difficult to do. Nothing really to say about Hogback, other than he's great, also. Gecko Moriah, though. Another stand-out performance. Haven't heard of the guy who was cast as Moriah, but he's doing amazing. He's managed to make the laugh sound both annoying as fuck and a little bit disturbing, since it's so awkward to do, his voice cracks at the end. Hard to explain, but it's just kind of creepy :nick-sweat:

Season 6 is going well, though. Was unsure of how Thriller Bark would go, but I'm pretty satisfied. Of course, it's the second half of this arc that I'm looking forward to.

And Thriller Bark is now in its final stage, every main villain was very well voiced, they clearly had a blast doing it (especially Marcus D. Stimac as Dr. Hogback and Chris Guerrero as Gecko Moriah, who are both One Piece fanboys, apparently). And I've also heard Chris was part of Team Four Star, as Cooler. I can kinda see it now, looking back at that role, but damn. And some people say abridged series' do nothing. Guy's actually become an official voice for Funimation now. And besides Ian Sinclair as Brook, he's probably the best new voice of this arc.

Speaking of new voices.
Spoiler:
Fucking Kuma, dude.
I was waiting for him and he didn't disappoint.

But yeah, Thriller Bark's very nearly over. Some great animation here and there, for the series. A great arc, quite unique for One Piece. But I know what's coming up next. Oh lawd, do we all know what's coming up after Thriller Bark. And no, I don't mean Foxy's return :meekins:

Not at all. That's probably the infamous 4Kids dub that you remember, which as most people remember, was absolute garbage. Funimation are doing the series justice, and the cast are fantastic.

Lol, it's a bit hard to, given how badly they messed the series up. Not counting everything else, plot holes galore :meekins:

But the Funimation dub is different, is unedited, and the voices for the Straw Hats and some villains are selected by Toei themselves. It is a quality dub, it's just a bit...odd that Toonami chose to start on the Davy Back Fight/Long Ring Long Land Arc of all places. The cast are great, some just fit their role a lot better than others. They nail pretty much every important scene, honestly.

What was even more depressing what that sad excuse of an opening they thought would be cool >.>

Its hard for me to enjoy dub anime because the voices are so terrible which is why I tend to never watch dub anime with the few expections like Yu Yu Hakusho and Dragonball Z

Oh please don't remind me of 4kids dub, i'm still trying to get it out of my mind haha and no im talking about the one piece dub that they are showing now on Toonami every sat night since Toonami has been revived by the network.

They apparently did a half-decent dub of "We Are!", but changed it at the last second for God knows why :eh?:

Most of the voices from Dragon Ball Z are in Funimation's One Piece, also :phoenix:

And the countdown to the final voyage of Thriller Bark begins. Gotta say I really enjoyed this arc, mostly due to how different it was.

Voyage 4 still brings the epic moments, including one of the most tense situations thus far.
Spoiler:
It reminds me of that one bit in Fairy Tail, 'cept Kuma doesn't end up shitting his pants and giving up like Sting did :gumshoe:
You know what I'm on about :butzthumbs:
