Exactly what it says on the tin. What movies that were considered by critics and the general film public to be awful did you actually like? Or which movies that are generally loved did you not like as much?

I actually liked the Mike Myers Cat In The Hat movie. I actually found a lot of the jokes to be quite funny, and I don't find it to be as insulting as other people do; after all, the teenage mutant ninja turtles comics started out as being very edgey and violent before becoming more family friendly, yet no one complains about the cartoon being too different from the source material!

I didn't like Open Season. At all. The whole selling point of the movie, the fact that the animals are turning against the hunters, isn't implemented until the last 10 minutes or so, which feels like false advertising. The movie is nowhere near as funny as other people make it out to be, at least not in my opinion.

I don't like Ice Age. The first one, since it's the only one I watched. I watched it 12 years ago during summer camp with the other campers and supervisors. And I was the only person in the room to not laugh a single moment during the movie. Nothing in that movie was really funny. That squirrel trying to get the nut? Not really funny.

So I never watched the sequels. Kind of good, considering one of them is called Dawn of the Dinosaurs or whatever, which is factually wrong since the Dinosaurs came prior to the Ice Age... the meteorite hits killed the Dinos off and that caused the Ice Age to begin in the first place.

I won't go with that "everyone likes but you hate" because there are so many of them.

But... I like a lot of sleaze and semi-pornographic movies that won't be on IMDB's list of best movies anytime soon. (I want them somewhat "classy" though, if that's the word I'm after... hm. I like a lot of B-movies, but I love a lot of mainstream movies too. And I love Caligula, but that's stretching it a bit - you like it or you loathe it is my impression.

The most striking example (this has nothing to do with sleaze and whatnot:) Happy Campers. Saw it when I was 18 with my sibling who was 13 at the time. We couldn't find one positive review, but it was... well... we laughed a lot. It was a really, really weird movie and both of us had a mild chrush (except for me, who had a huge crush and got all giddy when I got to know his character was gay) Keram Malicki Sanzches. Those eyes... ah. And some lady named Pixel. I crushed just as much on her. Bad film? Perhaps. But it will always be close to my heart after that experience. I'm not sure I'd dare to watch it again, though, six years later.

Gamer with that dude... Gerard Butler. It got pretty bad criticism from what I heard, but I really liked it. It was a couple of years since I saw it though, so I cant swear on my mum that it's still good.
And Death proof by Tarantino. It seems like everyone think it sucks, but I loved it!

Spider-Man 3. And not trying to sound like an "I hate change" kind of guy, but even Spiderman 3 is infinitely better than the new series

Food Fight

Everyone says it's terrible animation and all that, but I rather enjoy it. But mine is more along the lines of "It's so horrendously bad, it's kind of hilarious"

So you think it's one of those "so bad it's good" kinda movies, like The Room? This thread is meant to be more along the lines of movies you actually enjoy for non ironic reasons, sorry I didn't specify. It's my fault for not being more clear about what this thread is meant to be about. Terribly sorry about that.

Mh? No I wasn't really talking about it in an ironic sense. I don't even like The Room in any way. Well except for the NC's review of it cause some of his jokes were kinda funny. I'm angry, rawr, rawr. Food Fight is more the type where I can enjoy it because it is one of the few thinks I can "interact" with and turn my brain off. One of those movies you watch to just give yourself a break and all.

Somehow I doubt that JesusMonroe meant that nobody would call Transformers overrated because they're admitted as very good movies.

A good movie can still be overrated.

I meant that the popular opinion is that Transformers sucks. That's almost a general consensus. It can't be overrated because a great majority of the public thinks the movies are bad. And just because the movies make a lot of money doesn't mean that they're rated highly. I can read off a list of highly grossed movies that are universally panned (it's like saying Twilight is overrated. Everybody hates it, so it's not highly rated, so it's not overrated)

I can make the same argument for Avatar. I didn't like it when I first saw it, but now so many people hate Avatar and call it overrated that the movie has effectively lost its overrated status

I talked about Happy Campers before and now I remember that I watched it again a few years later, but I still can't swear that I like it as much because I have chaanged... yes really chaanged... in these paaaast few years I seeem liiike sooomeone else... Ehrm, sorry for that. Anyhow; I still found it odd, funny, odd as hell, quirky, cute and odd (not quite as good as the first time I saw it, but still really neat). The thing that bothered me a little, though, was that every main character (I think) had sex with another main character... except for the schmexy gay guy, who just had "Charlie the cook", whom we only saw for like two seconds, because "he was the only one on the menu I was allowed to eat". It felt a bit like tokenism - it's a comedy about teenagers and sex, but the gay guy gets a few seconds with some random cook. Not that he really was "the token gay" in other ways, and there was also a bisexual girl (well, who had lots of hetero sex, and, like, one same-sex kiss or something).

Necropost, but I absolutely love bad animated movies. Dingo Pictures? Yes. Food Fight? Yeah. The Titanic movies? Heck yes!

I also remember really liking the Good Dinosaur. I feel it's one of Pixar's darkest movies and was surprised to see all the negative press it got.

I remember hating The Dark Knight Rises for some reason. It was my first superhero movie since Spider-Man 3 and I didn't like its tone at all.

Personally, I don't understand all the hate that Tomorrowland got. I thought it was great! It was a welcome break from all the doom and gloom we've been seeing in fiction of late, especially considering it's a generally optimistic sci-fi film for once. Governor Nix's monologue towards the end is easily one of the best I've ever heard.

It hasn't even come out yet but the Emoji movie. I already have an ironic appreciation for it and I'm getting this thing torrented (because I ain't about to pay for this) and getting some popcorn and juice. Meanwhile the internet has no ironic appreciation and sees the movie for what it is- a cash grabbing sellout by the executives at Sony. Whatever I'm still excited though to see the number of layers of failure.

The first one that comes to mind is The Giver. I adored the book, and I was excited to see the movie. I knew it was going to be different than the books, but I didn't mind. After seeing it, I still really loved it. Heck, I own it on Blu-ray. But everyone else seems to think that it's bad because it isn't exactly like the book. I'd get more ranty about my opinions on these people, but I'll leave that to the venting threads.

Also, this isn't my opinion, but my English teacher likes The Lorax movie. She hasn't read the book, so I have plans to buy it for her and show her the error of her ways.

I tried watching Citizen Kane once, and I found it boring. I could only watch the first 20 or 30 minutes or so before I got bored and turned it off. I don't care if that makes me an uncultured swine or what have you, I just didn't find it engaging, it might be in part due to my ADHD.

I liked Shrek The Third. It's not as good as Shrek 2, but I still find it funny and it had some good moments in it. I liked it more than the first one actually. Speaking of which...

I don't like the first Shrek movie as much as other people. If you watch the Nostalgia Critic's video on it, his thoughts for the most part mirror mine. For one thing, I hate gross out humour, and the first Shrek movie had more of it than the later movies. Still haven't seen the fourth one yet.

Even as a child, I hated the Jim Carrey How The Grinch Stole Christmas movie. I just never found it funny, along with the gross out humour bit I mentioned earlier. I think I might be the only person on the planet who likes the Mike Myers Cat In The Hat movie more than the Jim Carrey Grinch movie.

I actually really liked Dark Shadows (that Tim Burton movie) - it's got fairly moderate if not awful reviews, but it's your typical Burton movie? Whenever the guy does something new (Big Eyes) everyone forgets about it, but he gets called cliched for sticking to his style? (I like Alice in Wonderland as well, so...)

I really, really didn't like Alien. It was way too slow, I didn't like how the suspense was set up. I also fell asleep, so there's that. I hate Troy with a passion as well, if only because I recall a lesson in Classic Civ which entailed pointing out where the movie went wrong in comparison to the Iliad.

At this point, I'm going to accept that I probably just have really, really dodgy taste in movies :edgey:

I really like Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I always have. I like Depp's slightly more sadistic take on Wonka, I love the music, the darkness, and the atmosphere. A lot of people don't like it because they think it doesn't feel magical, but I totally disagree. It feels totally magical, just in its own unique way. I still own this one on VHS too.

I won't get into one I hate that everyone else likes because that list will be too long, haha.

I also love the newer Charlie movie! It's a good fun adaptation and I like that they made Grandpa Joe into a former worker of Wonka. Wonka's backstory itself was also pretty fun. Haven't seen the older movie though.
