CN wants new VA's for the reboot. :dahlia:

Tara posted about it on her Twitter, including a link to a petition to get CN to keep her, Cathy, and Liz as the VA's:

Hm. Interesting. I wonder why CN would want new VA's? Kind of defeats the purpose of a reboot, doesn't it?

Not necessarily. The Sailor Moon reboot anime has new seiyuu for majority of the cast. The only one that retained her role was Kotono as Usagi. I wasn't entirely sure what to think of the new seiyuus, though when I heard Koshimizu was gonna play Jupiter, I knew it would work cause I knew the voice.

So new VAs doesn't necessarily mean they'll be bad. Nor does having different VAs mean it's not a reboot.

I guess that's true. It just struck me as odd, as its almost like having the same characters played by different actors in a live-action show. I'm sure it'll all work out if the setting, characters, etc. are all the same.

Well I would say that's where the huge difference between an actor and a voice actor lies.
An actor is taught to express emotions with their face, body posture and everything of themselves. Voice actors are trained to show emotions simply by training their voice alone to be capable to express all kinds of emotion in a huge range. They don't know how to act with facial expressions or how they hold their body since that wasn't a huge part of their training. Hence why voice actors generally are best sticking with their voice as their acting tool and come off as rather stiff when body acting.
Though I don't think this applies a whole lot with American voice actors since majority of them were or are actors and know this. But then I think that's a reason why I don't like English voice acting all that much, because they are so used to expressing emotions more with their body than their voice, so the lines tend to sound a bit flat, like they're missing something.

I'd certainly agree with that in most cases. However, there are a few notable characters who I couldn't picture without their signature, distinctive voice - Spongebob or the Genie from Aladdin come to mind. Time will tell if the Powerpuff Girls are the same type of situation.

The genie was voiced by Dan Castellaneta at times, so there are people who more associate him with the genie's voice rather than Robin Williams.

I suppose it all depends on which one a person heard first.

Would kind of spoil it not to have the iconic voices.

As long as it has as many "getting crap past the radar" stuff as the original,I don't really care for the voice,I am used to watching it in Spanish anyway.
