This forum is for people who want to roleplay "in character." We have quite a few members already with user names same as game characters (and several repeats!), but all that "roleplaying" around the forum is a little distracting.

So if you want to post as "Phoenix" or "Miles" or "Gant" or whatever, please restrict it to this forum.

Thanks~

I don't really know what role-playing in character is. What are OCs? Yes, this is my first time.

Role-playing is basically posting/playing/etc as a different character. Say for instance, you want to play as Gant . That's what you do here, and only here.

Hey, what sort of roleplays are allowed here?

I mean, like third-person roleplays with signups beforehand. Are those allowed?

How do you actually pick a character? Can it be Franziska's cousin or something?

Yup, anything you want. It can be Franziska. Or even Franziska's dog, if you fancy posting 'Woof' every 5 minutes. Redd White
Oh, and an OC doesn't have to be related to an existing character, BTW.

Actually, most of them haven't. The only ones I know of like that are the closed RPs, and those are marked.

Generally the person who wants to start the RP makes the thread, any anyone who wants to participate just joins in through posts. :3

I've got a question. I have a Phoenix Wright RP that I have planned...the rules don't seem to outline if it is okay for me to post it in such a way that I need to have people sign up and such. I want to make sure that it is okay before I do. It's a pretty serious RP I have planned and I want everything to be within rules reach.

I would need to have people sign up before they start to RP only because there is a set storyline for it and without sign-ups then I can't PM Role Players when there is some sort of plot change or if there needs to be a plot change concerning their character.

Thanks. :)

I had an idea for something, but it's less RP and more just...well. Let me explain.

For those of us who had Ataris or Commadores as our first computers, there were quite a number of text adventure games. Well known for inane syntax to try and get anything accomplished.

I was considering starting a post and then whoever could respond and I'd continue the adventure as long as I felt creative enough. Would this work? Would this even GO here? I'll give a sample. If enough people responded, we could have all kinds of multiple pathways going on. I'm also limited to what I know of the Phoenix Wright world as I've only played one game.

Sample:

What a boring ass day. You (as phoenix) feel your eyes glaze over trying to read another book in Mia's collection. Ah screw it. With no new cases or clients today, maybe you should take it easy. Then again, maybe with no new cases or clients, maybe drumming up business wouldn't be so bad. Or thirdly, maybe hitting Gourd Lake and taking a boat with Maya would be a good idea. You did promise, after all.

>

So then after the > prompt, a random poster would then input a command and I'd take it from there until the adventure naturally ended or I just got really bored. One of the two. So would this work?
Play the text adventure where you control the action, like this user:
At any rate, this situation keeps getting weirder all the time. What will you do now?

All my closed RPs are just to fit the story. You introduce yourself into Skye's, run with the story, then go anywhere you want. It's not like 'GET OUT OF THE RP, BITCH!'. I'm only speaking for my self, though.

If you want, go head and join my RP, Skye's House/Prosecutor's Office. *gets shot for advertising*

Sorry for the double post, but, like, I found a better way to explain.

My closed RP's are only gonna be used for one scene, so I just create them on the run, I'm not planning on going back, so if I left it, and n00bs took over, that would be credited to my name.

Does that make sense?

Yes, that's something I'm unsure about, myself. Are roleplayers allowed to be official folks in different threads, or are there people here who are set in stone about who they play as?

THey can change, but some people prefer playing as certain characters.

Examples: Godot Fan: Noah Vion Karma (his OC)
MikeMeekinsFan: Crytal (her OC), Angel Starr and Mike
Me: raynis, Esse Phantom and Nabasco Light (all OC)

Is it okay to make request threads here, searching for an RP (maybe a one on one, or someone to collaborate on the creation of a group rp)?

Um- sorry if I sound VERY n00bish on all of this- I've roleplayed for a few years now as a table top role player, and am use to the table top set up of roleplaying, where you have a GM (Game Master), and they control the direction of the game/roleplay. I can't see how you can do this in a forum role play.

I was wondering how this is all done in a forum based game? I'd like to GM a RP, but I'm totally daunted by all the RPing, cause it seems like it's free style, and I don't know what's going on. Is it all done via PM? Systemless roleplaying I get, but without a coordinator, how do you direct a story?

Can someone please explain it a bit to me? I've never done it this way before :(

Hey! I didn't expect to find another table-top RPer on here (and it's a girl! Hazaah!)! Well, since I'm also experienced in that department, let me help you out with this one!

Honestly, with these RP's, it's mostly just characterization. No attacks, and if you do participate attacks, you describe what it is, and hopefully the other person you're attacking will coincide with it (ex. if you do a sneak attack with a knife, if the person doesn't want to die, well, at least they get a scar). There's no HP levels; you gotta estimate and roleplay it!
But other than that, it's mostly conversation and exploring worlds with other players. More often than not, there isn't a real "GM" in a sense that the person who created the topic controls everything. Usually, they play themselves too. But those who do in a sense "GM" the Roleplay, they want to know about each character, even secret things, and they expand the world. It's not necessarily: Player1: Okay, I entered the forest. GM: You see a fairy pass you by... More often than not, the players can also control the environment (to an extent) and people can control who they meet.

I know it sounds a little strange, since we're used to a GM knowing everything about the world, and we listen to him/her. But, in these RP's, players and the creator (that's a better term for these people than GM) create the world as they like it. That's how they're run.

This type of thing might be a little different than online RP sites, but the basic elements are the same. You create a character and follow the world's "guidelines". So, you wouldn't say that you're going to go capture a fairy if you're in an RP of a scary mansion.

does that make sense? If not, feel free to PM me. I know sometimes I make more sense in my head than on paper—er, online. :yuusaku:

((sorry i couldn't reply :payne: ))

That's more of a GM controlled RP. The GM, as I'll call him/her, thinks up a mystery or court case. He/she will then post a list of characters to play, whether it's the defense attorney, prosecutor, witness(es), defendant, etc. You will then be PM'd about your character (if it is not the defense, prosecutor, or detective; usually those end up being OC's), like their personality, and what they might lie about, etc.

There is usually an investigation phase and a trial phase, like PW. In the Investigation Phase, that's when the D and P go around interviewing witnesses and such and also, along with usually the detective, look for clues. It acts as a PW game, usually. While it is controlled by the GM, the player's actions aren't linear at all. However, the GM does control what evidence you find, but overall, the GM must trust that the witnesses give the right info (at the right time, I suppose). Investigation Phase, unlike PW I think, usually ends when the detective, P, and D pretty much say they're done. So if you didn't find that bloody knife behind the bookcase, ooops. lol

Trial phases are usually non-linear, as well. I haven't any experience with trials yet, only from what I've read. I think the judge (who is sometimes controlled by a player, surprisingly, but the GM will play the judge) calls the shots as to whether the D or P can bring a witness up. The witness will speak, and the D (and also the P, sometimes, I'm unsure at the moment; I think Case Trials try to be more even in this than PW trials) will find contradictions, press, etc. The judge calls whether there are penalties; you get five shots before getting thrown out of the case. Luckily, some GM's will outline in the beginning what causes a penalty.

Whether the GM has a predisposed 'killer' or not, I'm not sure. I'd think so, otherwise random characters (or the defendant) would automatically be chosen to end the case, lol. I don't know if people have made cases where the defendant WAS really guilty, but I'm sure they're out there.

Overall, there is a GM-esque person, however the GM has to relinquish control to key characters. In D&D terms, if this helps at all, it'd be as if the GM gave control important enemies or allies to the players, along with the hero characters.

Does that make more sense? :edgy: I'm unfortunately only in my first Case Trial, so if anything up there is wrong, someone please correct. Also, I'd advise skimming through closed threads on trials to get a little better view.
