Yeaaah it's a thoroughly good game through and through. I kept some of the tracks for my MP3 player.

Can someone who understands explain to me a bit about American politics?

Why does the government shut down because the congress doesn't agree on something? It sounds like important facilities are provided and I can't draw a cause and effect thing between shutting down government just because something isn't agreed upon in a certain time.

Yeah, I was dining with the family when I saw it in the news. Crazy, isn't it? The important facilities are provided but the workers are furloughed since the stuff the Congress is discussing is pretty important or something, so basically it's indefinitely Saturday till they get their s**t together. At least, that's what I got from it.

Yeah but it just doesn't make sense to me. Like why should the speculative theoretical side of lawmaking impact on the important practical side of things? They just seem entirely disconnected to me.

Like part of me is wondering if it's meant to serve as some kind of 'blackmail' to congress to force them to make SOME kind of decision in time but that hardly seems ethical or necessary to hold the public at ransom for it.

It is. Would be cool if they made some sort of sequel. Also the soundtrack is really awesome. This one was my Favorite

VRChat is such a big thing lately. Everyone at work loves to imitate Ugandan Knuckles and it's just amazing.
Then my cousin shows me this video of a Ugandan soap opera edit with Knuckles and it just murders me. There's also an Overwatch version for the people that play Genji and "need healing", but expect Mercy to run after them.
All of these videos and vine compilations are stemmed from this one poorly acted scene. I'm not even mad. xD

I have to question the logic of the companies that wrap up those small gel-inserts you put into high-heeled shoes. Why are they packaged in a way that you need a sharp tool, like scissors or a knife, to get the packaging open, so you can insert them? I'm tumbling around here in my new, high boots and see these gels are perfect to prevent 'burning feet' sensations from high shoes... then realize I can't use them instantly. I got some full-size inserts and they helped, too, but still.

Oh, geez. I was just looking through the birthday list earlier and I saw a name I recognised.
So a very happy birthday to our very own General Luigi! Haha, can't believe a year's gone by since then. Time flies too fast.

I’m reading The Cuckoo’s Calling by J.K. Rowling. It is very well-written, as I expected, but I think this novel has some problem with pacing. Like, it took the whole book to get to the real killer, and I felt that the story lacked some “crucial”, suspense-driven moments... idk. Some parts felt too monotonous. But it is still well-written.

I finished it about a month ago, but has anybody else here seen The Wire? I'd seen the first season about 5 years ago and thought it was boring af. Finally gave it another chance and I loved it from the first episode. The first season actually ended up being my favorite, though I enjoyed all of the show

Easily my favorite show/piece of media. The gap between it and my #2 isn't even close. I want to immediately watch it all over again but I know it'll be much more satisfying if I wait a year

BURP! Went out for dinner and finally came back. Some good times were had. Never forget the Winscosin soup.

While we were driving there we noticed this reaaallly shitty slogan by the traffic police:

Love Safety
Marriage Rules
Divorce Speed

Brought to you by the Traffic Police

But they were separated really terribly so the first thing we read was

Love
Marriage
Divorce

Brought to you by the Traffic Police

I lost it.

Are the characters likeable? I tried to read her The Vacancy, but... all the characters were boring, I didn't like them, parts didn't make sense, and I just wondered why I should keep reading it. (Maybe it was too 'British' for me)

PS: Thelema, I see your David Bowie and add Wada Kouji to it.

One thing I noticed about the book is that the characters are very believable. When I read a story, I know a character is generic/bad when I can't see them existing in real life; when they aren't concrete/"believable", they don't feel like anything I've seen in my life experience. But the characters Rowling used here are VERY good, in the sense they are very realistically characterized; I find the protagonist (Strike) extremely likeable - kind of cynical and antisocial because of his fucked up past - but very intelligent and insightful about human psychology. I love it when he messes up with people, push their buttons and get a psychological reaction out of them. His assistant is a young woman with a naive side, but much more socially fluid than he is, and helpful (he certainly wouldn't progress without her).

Huge part of the book is about Strike investigating the inner friend circle of the girl who died (a supermodel), and most of them are kind of fucked up, which only makes everything more interesting. Her problematic, immature and drug addict boyfriend; her personal driver, who is kind of a pushover for famous people; her best friend, who is a snarky gay stylist... the killer isn't obvious from the start, and I liked that. I wouldn't say it is an A+ book, but certainly between A- or B+, and worth a read. I think you would probably like it, at least for the most part.

I didn't read The Casual Vacancy because of the mixed to negative reviews it got. I almost read it because it is a Rowling book, but there are too many classic books/literature gems out there I didn't read yet waiting for me. Nowadays I only pay attention to contemporary literature if something that seems really, really good comes out.

I suppose I might quite like to read another book in the Potterverse but outside of Hogwarts and Potter. I suppose Fantastic Beasts might be considered that but I was put off because it was based on a film I think

I think Fantastic Beasts was actually a book first, then a movie.

There's also coincidentally this new mobile game called Hogwarts Mystery or something but it's an RPG and those aren't my cuppa.

I said technically because I've only earned an associate degree. I have to wait another semester to complete one course that's only offered in Fall to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. After that, I'm considering going for a PhD.

Right now... I suppose I could search for a part time job.

You could get a part time job in a pharmacy, if that helps?

But still, congrats! I'll confess that Chemistry isn't really my thing, but nice to see that you're doing good in it. Though the real jobs in the field usually require a PhD of some sort.

So I got Monster Hunter when it released and it's so amazing! I've been playing with my boyfriend every day since the release. Right now we're farming for parts for our weapons and armor. My weapon upgrade is missing one part, a fang. But it's "????". I'm guessing it's a Diablos fang, but I could be wrong. Doesn't hurt to try though. I mean my next quest is to hunt a Diablos anyway. :3

Congrats sumguy28. That's amazing. Is there a particular field inside Chem which captures your interest? I know two people who work on the industry - that sounds hella nice. One of them (who happens to be my ex bf) is a Chemical Engineering major though.

I think it kind of depends on where you are, and what you are searching for. I can see a lot of options within the field tbh, both in the market and in research.

I'm happy for you, CatMuto. Wishing you all the best things.

My brother can be so selfish sometimes, holy shit. So "me, me, me", "fun, fun, fun", and to hell with everybody else. I know he is 13, but it is just tiring to explain things to him again and again, seeing that a lot of the times he doesn't care. Pisses me off so much. *sigh*

I have a little brother as well, and I know how you feel! Just trust me when I say that they do grow up... though it may take a while, I think 13 was a particularly annoying age, if I recall.

Hey welcome to the Forums! Hope you get comfy here.

As for your signature, I think it's a defence mechanism against bots? I don't think you get a signature until a little while because bots would make an account loaded with dodgy links and leave them in their signature and everywhere.

While I was playing Persona 5, I thought about something related to Japanese pop culture. Why do all those dramas/JRPGs/anime take place in a high school environment? Like, doesn't matter the show, doesn't matter the genre, it is all high school. Almost as if high school is the prime of your life or something lol. I thought it was only about demographics, but there must be something more.

Actually I'm pretty sure you hit the nail on the head Thelema. Japanese work culture I hear is very different. You get a job after school and you commit to the company till you retire. High school is seen as like the last bastion of freedom before entering the world of work. That's why its such a heavy focus in anime and manga I hear.

Yeah it makes sense. I know you are commenting in the context of their culture and all, but I never saw high school as a free environment; rather, a moment where I had to study a lot of different subjects, many of which I had no interest in. I always saw the prime (for most people) of the human life as our 20s and 30s; the age where you are still young/healthy, but old enough to be completely independent and not under the influence of hormones.

For me, personally (and I see this pattern in a lot of people), my teenage years were when I began to develop my interests; my early 20s are now the moment where I'm creatively acting on them (and I think this period will last some more), and I feel much more free now to focus where I want to focus.

How wonderful for you, Dawn!

My own venture into finally getting a job is a bit slow. Still waiting for the contract to appear in the mail, but it's barely even been a work week since I was approved. And it does give me a bit of time to wait for my Führungszeugnis to appear, so I can send that along with the contract. I do have six weeks until after my first work day to send that in, but it's one of those things you'd prefer to get done with sooner, rather than later.
