@Southern Corn Actually, Phoenix tried to pin the blame on Adrian twice. Once during the first part of the trial, when he genuinely thought she was the killer... and the second time, in the last day of the trial, when he knew Engarde was the murderer. In the last time, he only did it cuz he was desperate to extend the trial and save Maya.

The first time, he was kind of dumb... it doesn't take a genius to figure out that somebody doesn't need to kill a person themselves to be the mastermind behind a crime or the main instigator of a murder. So his use of the Magatama was meaningless. Plus, he had an instinct/intuition that something was wrong himself, even with the lack of response of the Magatama.

@luck The whole point of JFA is to establish that a lawyer should be more than a "person who wants a not guilty verdict no matter what", and a prosecutor should be more than a "person who wants a guilty verdict no matter what". Being like this is no different from being a mindless machine with no moral compass. Finding out the truth is important. Phoenix gives a chance to his clients and believes in them, as long as the evidence points to their innocence. After 1-4, Edgeworth changes and tries to do his job and find criminals guilty, as long as the evidence points to them being guilty.

This skips one important aspect that they introduced in this case. That Phoenix can trust in Edgeworth to rebut his claims and vice versa. That they find the truth together by theorizing and making claims against each other together. They essentially form a team when they're the defense and prosecution on the same case, by both guys giving it their all to win the debate. Because they know that the opposition can come up with, well, opposition until the truth has been reached.

@Nurio Yes, yes, fair, that's very true. I'm actually replaying the trilogy in HD and I just finished 2-4 lol. And this is one of my favourite things about the case. This part where Phoenix asks himself in his inner monologue if he trusts Edgeworth, and Mia replies, "yeah, you do". That's the beauty of it. Both defense attorneys and prosecutors are needed in the courtroom, two halves of the same whole, that will reach a conclusion through conflict. But this conclusion needs both to exist. Phoenix wouldn't act like this if Edgeworth wasn't there.

I never understood why people liked her so much. She was just kind of annoying to me.

...that's kind of bad, considering that's she's the reason you're supposed to be conflicted between saving Maya or getting a Not Guilty.
