As for the contents of the glass, it looks like chocolate milk, or prune juice.

It was probably Shoe XD  But on a serious note, the scars may be from a bike accident, as it's shown matt has a bike in his house. Or it may be from a stunt accident (after all Will had accidents  ) during the filming of the nickel samurai.The glass he holds is a brandy glass, and the liquid is similar to the colour of Brandy so thats the most simple answer, but HOW THE HELL DID HE SNEAK IT INTO THE DAMN DETENTION CENTER????

I concur to everyone who said: "Shoe caused it" After all, it seems most likely, at least in my opinion. About the glass: I seriousl have no idea. Probably some strange malicious powers give him the power to summon it, or something. He seems like a devilishi guy with that scare, face n´stuff. |

In the glass: cognac. Scratches: It would be fun if it was Shoe who caused his bad-ass scars, but he might as well has done them himself in a fit of frustration. He obviously has the tendencies. |

Since it's a cognac glass and the liquid is the same colour as cognac... Chocolate milk?  I firmly believe he caused the scars himself. |
