I chose "Guilty" because I felt like it was the right thing to do. Matt deserved to go to jail, Adrian didn't, and I figured Maya would be ok.

What surprised me most is that Franziska showed up not only helping you but also seemingly uninjured. It can't be good for you to be running around collecting evidence right after being shot.

Maybe Derek Stiles used the healing touch on her?

Guilty both times.
I thought hard about the first decision even though I knew Franziska would save the day and chose guilty because it would stop an innocent person being convicted and it is what Maya wanted.
I chose guilty the second time because that's what Matt deserved.

I've only played that case one time, and that time I said guilty. My only honest reason for choosing it was that it was what I felt a hero should say. That he shouldn't cave in under the pressure, and stand strong in the face of the villain.

When he was messing with his wrist communicator, was Matt really talking to his agent, or was he talking to De Killer?

I said guilty. It's what Maya wants, I knew she would do something to be okay. And... Seeing Adrian helpless, facing the possibility of having to go to jail when she didn't deserve it... Well... It made me feel very sad for her. Dunno. When I first played 2-4, I didn't know any details about the plot, nothing was spoiled for me beforehand, and when Phoenix was convinced Adrian was the murderer, somehow I felt that was wrong, even if the motives and how the crime scene was set up was convincing enough. I felt a lot of empathy for her.

I knew that Adrian Andrews didn't fit as the murderer. She may be hard-headed and cold, but she doesn't have it in her to be a murderer.

That's what I was thinking. I had a larger question in mind because I may include the information in a future fanfic: did De Killer decide to shoot Franziska on his own as a "bonus" service, or did Engarde request it?

didn't Adrian get out of jail fast for someone who desecrated a corpse and munipulated a crime scene, anyone can say obstruction or perversion of justice? The time between GS2 and 3 can not be THAT long.

It was a terrible choice. If Maya hadn't said that she wanted the creep to go to jail...it would have been almost impossible for me to choose. I had no idea Maya would live, I chose it because it was the right thing to do. The second time, guilty again, because it was the truth.

Loved the choice was freakin awesome! :will:

AA needs more intense decisions like that. I spent a good five minutes battling with my hatred of Engarde and sense of justice, and my desire to keep Maya alive....then I remembered how annoying Maya was, decision made easy :garyuu:

Well not really, I didn't say guity out of hatred for Maya but yeah, justice and hatred of Engarde swayed the decision...I didn't preempt that DeKiller would have gotten him anyway but meh who would've at that point in time?

I played through twice. First, I said, "Guilty" because he WAS. And I know that's what Maya would have wanted (as proven earlier.)

Next time, I went with "Not Guilty" to see how he'd freak out over de Killer.

it was a rather hard decision. Not= madman gets off. Guilty= Astala vista baby. Perhaps I'd plead insanity in real life. Perhaps i'd give Adrian a "Get out of Jail Free Card". In the game I chose Guilty. Since frankly i care as much for Maya has i do for my old PS1. Not much at all. Astala Vista, Maya!

See, it looks like I'm pretty much the only double NOT GUILTY chooser so far.

Now, if the game had asked Phoenix to testify whether Matt were Guilty or Not Guilty, my answer would change. Lying under oath would've given Matt so much blackmail material that there would be no end in sight, even if Maya lived, and he'd probably have had Maya and Phoenix killed afterwards, anyway. But the game doesn't ask for sworn testimony, it asks Phoenix to report his client's plea.

This means that if Matt's in a position to plead Not Guilty... that's the plea to report. If Phoenix declares Matt's guilt just because he feels that Matt is an evil, evil man, then he's taken the entire trial and made it moot, and substituted his own moral judgment for the judgment of the court. He's turned a trial by law into a trial by defense attorney.

Mia warns Phoenix earlier in the case, and says in no uncertain terms that it's his job to defend Matt:

Quote:
Mia:
Phoenix...

Phoenix:
I can't do it, Mia...
I can't accept a not guilty.

Mia:
You are a lawyer.

Phoenix:
I know.

Phoenix:
But... But Matt Engarde is a
killer; a murderer!

She's even more forceful when time is running out:

Quote:
Mia:
What now? With the way this
is going, Engarde will be
found innocent.

Mia:
This may be our last chance...
to save Maya...

Surely Mia gets a little bit of say in the fate of her own sister?

Okay, it might get Adrian Andrews in trouble. But surely there's a defense attorney who can get her off the hook. I mean, as long as he doesn't do anything stupid like run away after doing his job and saving his best friend's life. That would just be irresponsible.

Actually....you know what it's like in AA world, when someone is convicted in place of the defendant (like almost every case) usually as far as I've seen there's no other trial, the new accused is sentenced there and then.

I checked the script; it explicitly states that Adrian gets a trial. Which Phoenix doesn't go to.

But why would she get a trial if Matt is declared guilty in the end? Was there some other crime she did?

Matt's Trial:
Matt: NOT GUILTY
Adrian: Accused of Juan Corrida's murder.

Adrian's Trial: GUILTY

In 3-2, Adrian comments that it's been 7 months. You'd think that she'd have gotten out early, however one must keep in mind that the PW-universe justice system is seriously. Screwed. Up.

I chose guilty too though, strangely enough, I did make Maya my deciding factor. I figured she'd rather take her chances with DeKiller and want Phoenix to do the right thing rather than live out the rest of her days believing that her life was exchanged to let a murderer walk free and have an innocent person convicted. Maya's tough like that. :maya:

I also agree with Cravat of Doom, I think it's what Maya would have wanted.
