I don't ship at all really, except for this and one other.

What's annoying is when crack pairings become ten times more popular than something that isn't. :yuusaku:

It's a bit depressing at times when they get really popular, yes. Even if Phranziska isn't considered canon by some, it still makes a lot more sense than some really popular pairings. Yaoi yaoi yaoi

Nothing can be considered canon, it would take away all the fun if they made one canon.

I rather be teased than disappointed. :godot:

Phranziska had me at 3-5, when Nick admitted to himself that Franzy looked cute when she was mad. And it's plausible! A von Karma choosing to marry the first man to shatter her record of perfection? YES!

I also agree that she should keep her surname, and Phoenix must now take it too. Phoenix von Karma.

Anyhow, sign me up, I love this pairing! I wish I could write fanfic for it...but I don't think I'll be able to get her character down right in prose.

They sound like a love/hate couple. I think that phoenix doesn't mind franny cos he bought her tulpis when shey was in hospital and took time to go visit her. Franziska hates phoenix's guts though cos he faced her dad and proved he was the murderer so... yeah. I imagine there would be lots of whipping involved if they ever got together

Hi theeeeere!

Do not fear, haters united against Phranziska didn't murder me and no I'm not a zombie... though I'd like to be a mutant.

I'm sorry, I haven't been so active in the forum and not even with my Phranziska fic, "Something only she knows".

Still the good old keepers of this thread: Brewster and Whip remain and keep our HQ alive XD. And I'm really happy some new faces are showing here like iloveedgeworth, grim_tales and of course Perseverance. BTW Perseverance... the fanart you brought is totally awesome. You win cookies, internetz and all you want.

Well... just came to announce that me and Nat are back on business with the fic and 2 chapters are coming anytime soon...expect them this weekend. We're finally getting to the interesting part... but there's no excitement if there is no drama... fufufu that's all I'm going to say.

As I checked some pages of the topic and saw sometimes you didn't have a topic of conversation I ask this:

"If Franziska and Phoenix kept a relationship in secret... how would Edgeworth react to that? Can you imagine a situation?"
BTW this all comes from... somewhat dirty ideas of Franny and Nick in an affair... I should stop or my nose will bleed... again.

C ya all soon! Take care!
Thanks. It was, is and always will be a pleasure.

Hmmm, what better thread to join this forum through. I digress.

Ever since 3-5, Phoenix + Franziska has subconsciously grown in my mind like a planted idea from Inception. At first it's preposterous, clearly she hates him for defeating her father and then herself, and her motivations all seem completely selfish. However, it's not impossible, or entirely unlikely, to think that she could simply be covering up her love with her hate. It's clear in many points that she undergoes (a tiny bit) of character development in that she respects and maybe even admires Phoenix, through the aforementioned following/sticking up for him against Godot/keeping the card.

What I'd like to see is a full character transformation out of her. Miles Edgeworth got this, and in a very successful way, in game 1. He went from a perfectionist and Phoenix hater to complete bro-status. He became my favorite character in all the games the instant that he objected to save you in 1-3. That and he's amazing at being smug and amazing.

Either way, it's probably too late, as it didn't happen in game 2 or 3. But ideally I'd like to see a nice transformation in Franziska, too, although it'd be hard to keep from drawing too many similarities to Edgeworth. I just think that they'd make a cute couple, and would have plenty of ways to work.

I'd suggest that she matures in the time between T&T and AJ, but I'd like to see the transformation happen.

Perfect situation? They're fighting and clawing at each other as usual, accidentally let slip that they like each other, and build from there.

Too bad it's a game about court cases, not love. So I'd prefer if it stayed that way. Subtle hintings are fine. That's all. Peace out, yo.

Heh, I haven't posted here for a LONG time...just dropping in.

I am a very loyal Phoenix/Maya fan, and I belong more in the Phoenix/Maya thread, but I do have a very pronounced soft spot for this pairing. I haven't yet encountered a P/F fic that's to my tastes, though. :( Maybe I'll write one myself... but I'm a bit preoccupied with Nanowrimo and a few other fanfics at the moment. Someone plz write a fanfic that takes advantage of the brilliant chemistry between Nick and Franny without making it too far-fetched or shippy?

Well, what would you consider is the brilliant chemistry between them? And what is far fetched or shippy for this pairing? It would help those who are loyal to Franny/Nick and want to write good fics (like myself). I'm interested on hearing you out.

Trust me when I say that I'm sorely tempted to write that fanfic, Hikari. And I usually don't even like to write fanfiction.

I even have an idea of when and where the pivotal scene between :phoenix: and :franny: would take place. I just don't have the time to write much of anything these days. :payne:

Aww :( I'd like too see a fanfic from you, Perseverance~

Well..If I read a P/F fic, I would want them to actually act like the Phoenix and Franziska from the games - Phoenix being snarky and Franziska being arrogant and whippy. There'd be clever, fun snark and professed 'dislike', and UST to the max. A kind of 'working on a case together' scenario could definitely set this up. OOC is one of the worst things you can do in a romance fanfic. I want to read about the characters, not some twits who have replaced the characters.

Shippy...well, I don't want to read a fic in which they're already in a relationship. I generally don't like those because they're boring, and filled with lovey dovey talk, and all the sexual tension is just gone. And then there's the fics where the pair aren't in a relationship, but they seem to act like they are - they're suddenly, instantly in love! What? They shouldn't act all polite and nice to each other instantly. That's not how their dynamic works in the games. I really like the idea that under all that rivalry, Nick and Franzy like each other more than they let on. But I dislike reading fics in which the dynamics between them are changed drastically... because then it's not the pairing anymore.

Have a plot, or your fic will probably end up as a Twilight-esque mushfest in which the characters stare into each other's eyes and tell each other they love them. A lot.

Phoenix isn't a teenager, and Franziska doesn't act like she's one. Basically, don't make them act like teenagers except in special circumstances.

Don't abandon other side characters like Edgeworth or Maya. And don't, just DON'T make them enablers for the main pair of the fic. That's annoying and disrespectful to their characters.

tl;dr: KEEP THEM IN CHARACTER. Don't sacrifice their characters for the purposes of a romance or a ship fic. :D

Write it well. That's pretty much a key element, yeah.

Uh..yeah. I think I expressed plenty of my views about fanfiction in general there ;D That was a relief.

I mostly agree with you, except that Franziska's positive character progression throughout the original GS trilogy at least gives the fanfic author a theoretical argument to justify her being a little less whip-happy and hostile in a fic that took place post-GS3. Her demeanor towards Phoenix does change somewhat between GS2 and GS3, though the shift is subtle and gradual.

I certainly would want to write a fanfic where the two were hostile, because I personally find antagonism delicious in a romantic context; my favorite relationships in fiction and nonfiction alike tend to involve characters who at least profess that they "can't stand each other." It's that Han Solo and Leia Organa dynamic, where the sexual chemistry leads them to a position of snippy defensiveness, and to protect themselves from their own feelings, they'll gladly demean or berate the other. I think we'd agree there.

...Bummer. I guess you wouldn't like my fic idea then. :will:
...I guess I'll spoil the setting, as I'll never write it anyway. I wanted the fic to take place in the immediate aftermath of Phoenix's disbarment, and I wanted him to start off sitting on the floor of his dark apartment, cradling a large bottle of whiskey and drinking his troubles away. It's precisely the rare and briefly out-of-character moment (yet completely justifiable even within the constraints of Phoenix's characterization, given the circumstances of what's happened and given that someone like Maya or Ema is no longer there to support him) that gives Franziska permission to enter and triumphantly gloat that "Phoenix Wright is defeated!"

I even wanted Franny holding a bouquet of tulips as she knocked on the door, but moreso in mockery than out of sympathy. "You gave me these once when I was hospitalized, so I thought the time was right to return them now that your career has been buried!" That kind of notion.

...And yet as she awaits this moment of triumph, something tugs at the corner of her consciousness, this feeling of sorrow and emptiness that just progressively amplifies...

Then they'd bicker (oh I LOVE to write acrimonious dialogue) about ten thousand different judicial, philosophical and social subjects until there's some sort of passionate breakthrough. And definately kissing.
The great thing about arguments is that they create circumstances where the hostile feelings are so animated and the interaction is so antagonistic that suddenly while they're screaming at each other and pacing back and forth and getting in each other's faces his lips accidentally grazed against the contours of her cheek and BAM, makeout session commences.

...I deliberately didn't want Edgeworth and Maya to be present at all, though. That's why you'd hate my fanfic. My favorite fanfiction often takes place in a single, isolated and elongated scene, where the entirety of the plot can be summed up as one lengthy back-and-forth dialogue where characters spar. It interests me a lot more than fabricating a new murder mystery to investigate, complete with dozens of new characters to bore my readers half to sleep with. And I think a single scene where Franny and Phoenix are in the perfect psychological condition to tear each other apart (and reconstruct each other back together) ultimately provides even greater character development and growth than a lengthy investigation or courtroom sequence where other characters get in the way of the lovers' quarrel.

(My fanfic would have ended with Franny offhandedly recommending Phoenix start an "Anything Agency," as a half-insult and a half-compliment, thus tying it back to the main plot of the series. Just for the record.)

Uuuggghhh, I've wanted to write that fanfic for more than a year now, and I never will! :nick-heart: :no-no:

No. To the contrary, I think I'd actually really, really, really enjoy your fic. I think I may need it desperately now. :P Write it, please, please, please!

What I meant by my statement there was don't abandon Maya and Edgeworth's actual characters and their importance to Phoenix and Franziska. Of course it's fine to not include every single character in canon in a fic - but I've read crappy romance fics in MANY fandoms in which characters crucial to another character in canon are simply absent, or their personalities are reduced to enabling the main pairing. In your scenario, I wouldn't at all mind the absence of Maya and Edgeworth. They don't need to be there and it's not about them.

However, in a longer romance fic scenario, I wouldn't like Maya and Edgeworth to simply be onlookers and cheerer-onners to Nick and Franzy's ~*~epic romance~*~, or be absent in situations when they should be there, or have their character's importance diminished in order to favour the author's OTP. It doesn't make sense and it's disrespectful to reduce their characters like that! I've seen that happen in some romance fics. It bugs me big time. Of course, this is only really a problem in longer fics. In shorter fics, you can't fit every single character in, and why would you want to?

Oh, and in the context of a murder mystery, it'd be a kind of framework..when reading that kind of story I often skip over the details and just pay attention to the character interactions. There wouldn't need to be heaps of new characters introduced, or too much time spent on the actual mystery. It would work as a setup or a scenario or a device used to create drama and a plot and cause interaction between the two main characters ;D

By the way, I want your fanfic.

Hah, thanks. Maybe if you convince my Corporate Law professor to issue an exam asking students to write Phranziska fanfiction as opposed to asking questions about the limited liability of shareholders under the LLC corporate structure, I'll be able to get started. :gymshoe:

Yeah, that would annoy me, too.
Actually if I wrote a scene including Edgeworth and Maya in a Phranziska fic, I'd probably allude to the probability that both Edgey and Maya might have unrequited crushes on Nick, resulting on them feeling hopelessly awkward and torn in their "support" for the pairing. In Maya's case, I wouldn't actually see the crush as quite as severe; she's young, and too excitable a personality to feel disappointed. She'd probably tacitly approve so long as Franziska didn't mistreat him. I'd actually see Edgeworth potentially shutting himself off entirely, eventually responding with a passive-aggressive explosion of "This is illogical and you two are idiots!" when the relationship reaches a certain "critical mass."

...But yeah, if I did include Maya and Edgeworth I'd feel responsible for writing their own storyline for them that had nothing to do with the romance whatsoever; or at least, I'd make sure their every comment in the fic didn't have everything to do with Franziska and Phoenix stealing center stage.
It'd be kind of cute if Maya and Edgeworth eventually got together, though. And the two couples could double-date! The pseudo-siblings platonic nature of the Nick/Maya and Edgeworth/Franziska makes those particular couplings less appealing to me, but Nick/Franny and Maya/Edgey avoids that conundrum outright. I'm just not convinced that I'd be able to effectively interpret and write Edgeworth as heterosexual.

...So do I. :maggy:
If someone else wants to write it for me, please, by all means, do so!

:D IT LIIIIVES! And I do too, believe it or not.

Pers, that fic sounds awesome. You should definitely write it when you get the time! And do it better than me. *looks at abandoned fic in Documents folder* Poor thing...since Wanacoba is starting up again maybe I should get in the game and start working on mine again too. :3 Probably next month though, as like Hikari I'm doing Nanowrimo too.

It's awesome to see more people posting here after this thread had been dead for so long :D Maybe Brewster'll come back?

It saddens me that there aren't more :phoenix: / :franny: shippers out there. This topic should be the busiest and most exciting one on Court Records!!!

I plan to rectify this conundrum shortly, with the release of an essay that will surely win over some converts. (Well, it will probably actually be fairly ineffective. But I can always hope.)

...Still...
It's great to see that Franziska's whip prefers the right pairing for its owner. :will:
