I doubt you guys over there will get this message but hopefully somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who knows Japanese and somebody who works at CAPCOM, will speak to somebody who will speak to somebody who speaks Japanese will speak to somebody who works at CAPCOM about this.

In Gyakuten Saiban 5/Ace Attorney, please, for the love of god, don't make them 3D. Even if it is for 3DS (possibly not but most likely), the cartoony, anime-like animation was part of the games' charm. In Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney, Phoenix is in 3D as we have seen in the trailers. It looks very good, don't get me wrong! Although, from what I understand, even though I'm sure that game will be great and quirky much like the Ace Attorney games, it'll be dark much like parts of the Professor Layton games.

I, like many others, enjoy the occasional darkness. Apollo Justice was dark at times, especially in the last case, and that was great! A lot of people didn't like it, probably because it was quite different from the Phoenix Wright trilogy but I felt it worked because it kept some elements. The quirkiness, the style and the animation.

I like the 3D but I love and prefer the classic style of animation. In GS1, it was slightly choppy (compared to future games). In GS2, it was slightly improved and fit with the first game's animations. In GS3, a brilliant improvement which still fit with previous games'. GS4, perfected. Beautiful and dark while remaining cute and playful. GK1, can't improve on perfection, except for maybe the overworld sprites. I never played GK2 because we haven't got a localization or translation, but from what I've seen it looks pretty good.

In conclusion, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Give your opinions, other court-records forumers! We want CAPCOM to hear all of us!

(I'm not sure if this is where I'm meant to post it but I wish to be heard!)

If they're going to 3DS, they will most likely be 3D models. After all, they have to do something with the 3D option. I'm sure they will find someway to make the silly, prolific animations stand out. However, I think it would be cool to have pop-out-picture-book like graphics if they kept the sprites. The background could be blurry and the sprites be like the HD versions. Either way, as long as we get GS5 I'm fine with anything.

To be honest I don't like the "Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney" models much. I would really prefer having 2D sprites for GS5.
However, no matter what Capcom have planned to do, even if we don't have any info about the game's development, I assume they've already started making graphics and they can't just throw everything away and start again. If they have decided to use 3D models, it's probably too late to change that.

I like the look of the PL-VS-AA characters, they look very sleek and nice! :keiko:

However, I do hope that they will keep the 3rd Person View from AAI - where you can see both Edgeworth and the person he's talking to. First Person view is kinda dull.

I think you may have presumed too much here return of the Phoenix assuming the majority want 2D sprites to remain.

From my understanding many people are ok with the 3D models used in AAvsPL some say they got it bang on. Except for the objection face which kinda looked like it was flat and emotionless though we'll see how the final version turns out.

However there's nothing really to indicate they won't use sprites at all, AAvsPL is a spinoff it is not the standard for all future GS franchise games. They could probably utilise the 3D without models by simply creating depth in the courtroom.

I for one would be fine with 3D models but if they don't want to they could at least maintain a high-standard of sprites though really 3D models is the next progression.

Anyway I think the fanbase is too undecided for any appeal you launch now to have any force behind it.

As CR staff, I hope they keep the sprites. Having the animations was likely what kicked us off the ground and got us to be a very decently sized fan site. As a gamer, I couldn't care less if they used 3D or 2D. There's some things that 3D can do that 2D can't, and vice versa. We've had 6 games with 2D graphics. And we've seen a bit of what can be done in 3D with PLvsAA. That's not to say there aren't 2D tricks that can't be used. The flop-tastic Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law game used a bunch of 2D tricks that have yet to be seen in AA. So long as they don't stay stagnant I'm happy.

Plus Sprites are easier to work with I think for our fanbase to manipulate in fanworks, something I think I recall someone utterly raging about when they heard there were 3D models being used for AvP.

Don't get me wrong I'm sure 2D sprites would be fine though I would hope they would be extremely good quality. Plus the space saved by not having sprites would allow for more cases? Well anyway they could probably fill up the rest of the space with nice little things. I just think that some people are fine with 3D models since I remember what a big deal we made about that when it came out.

Though yes this is a spinoff, moreso than AAI, so there's no reason to say we won't get 2D in the main series.
