An interesting Interview with Alex Smith, the localiser for the first Ace Attorney game.

Something to highlight is that Phoenix's Name was initially put forward as "Roger Wright" with 'Phoenix' being low on the list of potential first names, but was picked by Capcom over 'Roger' as they liked the heroism of it.

"adding 'Pierce,' 'Xavier,' 'Marcus,' and 'Zane' could also be found on the list of proposed first names for Ace Attorney's protagonist. "

Ooh, Pierce Wright could have worked.

Kind of curious why they didn't use "Pierce" for Edgeworth, actually. Would have been useful for a lot of puns that came out a bit awkward in English.

Good decision. That might've also been too close to another Roger in a suit.

I can imagine the epic showdown between Xavier Wright just sounds so weird to me. Imagine a courtroom battle between Xavier and Klavier, that would be pun-tastic I bet.

There's also Roger Sheringham, an amateur detective who gets its wrong pretty much always.

Still have a good feeling that DGS will be localized; it's just too big an opportunity to miss out. And on that note, I hope Mr. Smith will be brought back for its localization.

Even if it's almost touching copyright, having Susato call Ryuu "Mr. Roger" would be very welcome. I dunno if they'd be able to pull it off, though.
