Now, about the animations themselves. If you spend any time poking around with them, you may notice some weird differences. I'll try to compile a list of the more glaring ones.
- No Blinking
Tons of characters don't blink. As best as I can tell, the HD sprites were a penultimate stage before turning them into the sprites you ultimately saw on the GBA, and from there the DS. I'm assuming that details like blinking were added in that stage. If, most of the concept art lacks those details, then likewise the HD sprites will miss them. It's not consistently missing however. Some characters, like Gant, Dalilah, and Penny do blink. - Wrong/Missing Frames
You see exactly what I saw. Some animations are short frames, others have the wrong frame inserted (Like Edgeworth's thinking->evil smug animation). I have to say, it may be 'wrong' but it's exactly what you would've seen if you played the game on the iPhone or whatever. In some cases, the missing frames can be found in an accompanying 'Unused' folder. Unfortunately 'correcting' Capcoms mistakes might be a long and drawn out process for us, assuming we can even get around to doing it. We've got a TON of sprites to get ready. Not to mention the AAI2 stuff that's on the backlog. - Transparency
One look at Dalilah's shawl will tell you everything you need to know. The sprites were stored in the game as Indexed PNGs. That's awesome for us since it means a 1:1 conversion to an Animated GIF was not only possible, but relatively painless. (GIFs have a limit of 256 colors, and single bit transparency, Indexed PNGs have the same constraints). However, one of the consequences of that was things in Game that were transparent, now have to be either opaque or transparent, not half way. In Dalilah's case, Capcom decided to dither her shawl. Looks very ugly, but makes for an authentic animated GIF. (And yes it looks like that if you play it in the game. - Interesting bonus stuff
Did you know there are two different renderings of the Judge's Brother? Most of the dummied animations from GS1 return, sans Heart-Eyed Phoenix. Is there more? Maybe! There's a lot to dig through.
