If you're in the States (or other English-speaking countries) there's still a day or two to go, but Capcom has just launched the iOS HD port of AA4 in Japan!

They added some kind of art for the cases this time! even if they are simple portraits of one character with some random background but STILL

To be fair, they only have 4 cases this time, instead of 5 cases in AA5 or 14 cases in the Trilogy , pretty sure when AA6 come out for mobiles inevitably , the 1st case will be free

It's just odd if the app's not a free download, why split case 1? Just make the app either free with the split, or paid with case 1 fully purchased, then buy other cases separately.

I guess it's just because they wanted to squeeze Phoenix into the case art one way or another.

Though if they really had to squeeze him in, could've split case 4 instead.

I mean,1-5 also has iOS art but it looked terrible. At least this time they don't look half bad. And they're better than AAI and AAI2 at least. But why split case one? Eh,whatever works. Still looks great.

GS 123 = 385MB
GS 5 = 624MB
GS 4 = 2.36GB

Not quite sure why it's so huge. GS 123 HD was originally huge, but then they optimized the files and made it a normal size. So maybe they will optimize it in the future.


Initial thoughts after playing 10mins:
The judge looks better, but isn't on the level of quality of the other sprites.
The cut scenes are, as you may remember, an awkward mashup of different animation styles: limited animation + CG. But now they're in HD.
GS4 Naruhodo makes me wonder how his personality regressed in GS5 and GS6.
It would be nice to have more features from the newer games. E.g. a dialogue log, and for the cursor to change icon when you put it over an area you've already checked.

...don't tell me they took the lazy way out and made the video frames uncompressed or lossless. They definitely had lossy compression in the DS version, or at least they did for the Guitar Serenade video if not those other 3D scenes. Or maybe they made the music lossless.

Regardless of the reason, that large a size for an Ace Attorney game feels like it's because of laziness, not because an HD remaster needs that space. Hopefully they do optimize it later, which they'd have to do anyway if they have (unannounced) plans for a 3DS release.

What I think about this is that Phoenix's bluffs look a lot more believable on the outside because you don't hear his inner monologue. Also, he was a lot more in control of the situation in GS4, especially considering he isn't facing unknowns in the heat of cross-examination. The Mason System was also a recreation of what Phoenix did, so he could have cut out less flattering moments in those scenes.
