Dengeki's website for their upcoming "15th Anniversary Gyakuten Saiban Series Encyclopedia 2001-2016" (AKA Gyakuten Taizen 2001 - 2016) has been opened this week. The book was announced at the 15th Anniversary Special Court event, and will contain detailed write-ups on all the cases of all of Capcom's Ace Attorney games*. Each case is explained through a timeline, detailing all the events leading up to, and after the murders, the culprits etc. The book will also contain lists of all the characters and evidence that have appeared in the games. Six interviews with the creators revealing untold tales about the games, one of which with Takumii, are also included in the book.

*Six main titles + Rise from the Ashes, two Ace Attorney Investigations titles and DGS. The website notes that the DLC case of AA6 however will not be included. The website also makes a special note that this book will still keep certain details secret regarding the final episodes of both DGS and AA6.

Cover art can be found on the official Japanese Ace Attorney franchise website: http://www.capcom.co.jp/game/content/gy ... books/1564

Probably the most detailed AA boom that here will ever be.

Oh, wow! This is going to be the "Hyrule Historia" of the Ace Attorney series! Such a pity it most likely won't make it to the west...

PS: will you provide translations of the interviews?

Can't say without having read them. Depends on what's in them, the length etc. Might do summaries, might do full translations, but do nothing ^^'

And I'd say it's not a Hyrule Historia, but more like the upcoming Hyrule Encyclopedia, as it is not focused on art, but on story.

Reminder that the Encyclopedia will be released this Tuesday! (Coincidentally, the second installment of the serialized story Turnabout of the Time Traveller will also be released next week)

But Hyrule Historia isn't really focused on art, that's Art & Artifacts.

Anyway, really hope this will get an official English release. You always do a wonderful job with your translations, but there's nothing like holding a quality book in your hands.

So are we going to be getting at least getting a summary of the interviews? The book itself looks really interesting, but the chances of it getting translated are probably pretty low.

The book itself is really awesome for people who love these kinds of data guides. Each case is given a short case summary, a explanation of how the incident happened, lists of characters, important pieces of evidence and locations, and a character relation chart. Then the events of each seperate day are summarized. Finally, there's a timeline detailing all the events that happen (for example how the murder was committed/what the murderer did afterwards, but also who the protagonists questioned when about what, also in court). Some key events/terms are also highlighted for each case. There are also lists of which characters appear in each game, and in which case as chronological lists for the cases.

There are some 'bonus' pages too, like a guide to all the hero shows featured in the series, or all the animals. There are even pages on Surviban (the original prototype of the game) and on on Ace Attorney, with all the English names for the characters.

As for the interviews, there is basically one for every 'era': Takumi and Iwamoto talk about the original trilogy, Yamazaki and Iwamoto talk about the Ace Attorney Investigations games, Horiyama and Iwadare talk about the music, Yamazaki and Fuse talk about 5 and 6, Takumi, Nuri and Kitagawa talk about DGS and Takumi, Yamazaki and Eshiro talk about the series in general and the future. As for summaries/translations, I still have to read them to see how much of it is actually new material (I saw for example that Takumi mentions a lot of things he has already mentioned in various interviews in the past in the first interview).

Wow, that sounds like something I would totally buy if it came out in English officially. The character relation chart sounds pretty dam useful seeing how weird some of these cases get.

If I remember right,AAI 1 and 2 both had character charts tool it'll be interesting to see how they do this here though.

The AAI companion book had character relation charts for the whole games, which worked because the stories were interlinked. The ones here are per case, which work better on the whole, naturally.

There's a funny mistake though in one of them though: in the 6-3 relation chart, it mistakenly says Tahrust is married to Zeh'lot, and that Beh'leeb is his disciple (the descriptions are swapped)

Who knows if it was a mistake? Maybe there was a domestic affair going on behind the scenes. The world may never know.

Wow, I had no idea the book would reveal that kind of unknown information to everyone. Is this supposed to be a set up for AA7? Since Beh'leeb (and, well, technically everyone, due to spirit channeling) can still come back...

That would kind of ruin 6-3 in a major way if that were true.

But it has potential for so many interesting situations :p

The interview with Horiyama and Iwadare on how they come up with the music is pretty interesting by the way, as I think this is pretty much the first deep interview ever with composers of the series.

I've started with the translation of some of the interviews found in this book for those interested. The interviews do contain spoilers by the way, so read at your own risk.

This interview with Yamazaki and Iwamoto is all about the Ace Attorney Investigations series and has Yamazaki explaining how he first joined Capcom, how the original project started (he explains some details to the early Ema Skye game concept never revealed before), the character designs and more.

And this interview features the top three men in the franchise: Takumi, Yamazaki and Eshiro, as they look at the franchise on the whole. They discuss their directing styles, their favorite episodes, what they think is typically Ace Attorney, how they joined Capcom, for what kind of players they create the games and look at the future.

That was a really interesting read. Gotta love how Yamazaki is a total Takumi fanboy XD.

I added another interview from the book today, featuring composers Horiyama and Iwadare (and it's pretty rare to have the composers featured in an interview actually!)
