That's just my interpretation though.

Dont'cha mean C is like Franzy? Because A is concept Phoenix.

Nah, to me A looks more like Franzy. Change the gender and the hair colour and they almost look the same.

Yeah, I was going by appearance. Specially since E has that whole beehive hair style.

I actually think that using old concept art for new characters is kind of cute. The series is continuously changing artists: if the new artists go back into the old artists' works for inspiration, it's kind of like preserving the aesthetic feeling of the series. Plus, for those fans that care enough to even recognize concept art, it's like a bonus. I know that when I saw Hobohodo I was immediately reminded of the drawing Suekane originally did of Phoenix in a hoodie, and it made his transformation feel more authentic to me.

Clearly many of the designs were shuffled aside for being too over the top, but there are elements from a lot of them that still fit the series. I'd especially like to see yellow pinstripe Beta-roki. Or else, at least see Machi come back in his dark blue coat rather than the frilly girly bib he has now... >.>

God Apollo looks even more Gant-ish in that Orange suit.

Though I agree that styling blue suit on Machi is awesome.

About that concept art of a green-haired spiky boy with the blue scarf; I was wondering if I can use that design for a character I made and modify it to be a character. If I can, I understand if I have to buy it. Please respond ASAP.

Um.... That's sort of not the point of this thread =\ I appreciate you trying to find a thread to post your question in rather than making a new one, but that question is pretty different from the topic of this thread (even if they both deal with prototype character designs), so it probably would have been better to make a new thread than necro this one.

However, to answer your question, if you just want to make a fancase or some art or whatever, it shouldn't be a problem. I imagine it'd also be okay if you just use it as a 'base' for the character, and add/change it to make it uniquely your own, that'd also be fine. The thing that wouldn't be allowed, I think, it claiming it as your own and/or using it for profit.

Reading that and the previous comment actually cracked me up. Sorry for posting on this thread but I had to acknowledge that. Are you gonna send this thing down Eagle River now?

Getting back on topic--

Godot's original concept art is a veritable goldmine of relentless coolness. Jesus christ-- you've got Cyclops, a samurai, and a noir detective all in one sheet. That's pretty impressive.

Hahaha :hobolaugh: . That Samurai Godot takes the cake.

Would be interesting seeing Godot take out his katana and slice a bit of Phoenix's hair when he loses.

It could explain Phoenix's front bang of hair.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Godot: *Katana Slash*

Phoenix: *Spike falls off* ACCCKK! My spike! :ack:

Godot: *Sheathes Katana* We shall cross swords again. This victory, savor it. :godot:

Phoenix: (My hair...There's now this bang that won't go back...) :nick-sweat:

I can see they're using some old ideas even now for Duel Destinies.

Compare

Edgeworth speaking to a dolphin

Phoenix talking to Orla and a killer whale he has to defend

Not exactly the same per se, but I guess the waterpark idea was saved since Investigations.

I'm pretty sure C is prototype for Maya Fey, believe it or not and E is Mia Fey, unless these aren't concepts for PW:AA.

You are wrong.

A is protagonist, B is antagonist (already planned to be Phoenix and Edgeworth), C is assistant, D is mentor, E is detective.

That is, unless you mean how they were used, instead on how they were planned to be used.

Most of those drawings seem like they could been given a new life. It's not because I'd want the team to get lazy, but they are good for inspiration and even inner references to longtime fans.

They could be inspirations for people who want to make their OC's more "official looking" without feeling like they get to look too similar to actual characters.

I even tough it would be cool to make a show within a show (more like game show within a game), using the beta characters.

It would be an Ace Attorney parody that some characters play or talk about (just like the Steel Samurai and The Jammin' Ninja).

The one that is knitting reminds me of certain DD character.

I think the creators of Turnabout Substitution said that they had used one of this Dahlia's concept art to make Rhea.

Yeah, Juniper is a lot like Dahlia, when it comes to behavior and innocent looks, Juniper just is more genuine in these ^^; And to me, more effective, actually.

They used her design #1 IIFC. Though #2 is to me the best ever and will always be.

WOW they had a lot of Dahila designs. I really like seeing concept art and what could have been with these characters. It's always fun. Especially all of Miles' concept art in AA5.

I wanna Apollo with his spikes down, like in the AA5 artbook.

Hey I know this is a really old comment and that this question doesn't have to do with the topic at hand but what artbook are those pages from?
