I don't mean to be impatient etc, but could we have maybe a function to change fonts. Because I don't really like the current font, it's kind of un-phoenix wrightish.

PWLib (AIGE) under WINE:

I had the chance to test it on wine 0.9.58, but the problem with text objects persists. I'm assuming it is a bug on the wine's compilation, not wine itself.

As PWLib gets released, I would like that people who use wine to test it and give feedback on the results.

Now as the test just passed, I'll work on the tutorials as I can't develop PWLib in Linux without it running text objects.

I'm also very excited about this and check the forums specifically for news on this every couple hours :)

I'm involved with a group who are getting together and recording voice acting for all the PW games(viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8728), and I brought up the idea to them of actually remaking the games, but with voice acting, with PWLib.

I imagine that it wouldn't be hard at all to put in voice acting into a game using PWLib, just input a command to play the sound that contained each spoken line at the start of each text box ... my only real question is, will PWLib have a problem playing 2 sound files at the same time? Since both the background music and the voices will be in mp3 format.

As of now, you can use only wav voices. I never tested creating a mp3 channel on sfx playback (never tested if the system could play 2 mp3 at one given time, I think they do).

In wav, you have 10+ lines for playback.

As of now you have a MP3 channel, single and unique.

As I get home i'll test using 2 mp3 channels. If they work I can make something like I did to wav lines (10+ lines for playback). Nothing that would take a day to do, so it will be shortly available if no major issues appear.

You could use wav until pwlib has mp3 support on voices, probably, in case i run into some trouble with mp3 playback.
BTW, did you comment about PWLib o nthat topic by any chance? (curiosity).

I working on the tutorials codes now, so I`ll need to write the tuto itself easily when i get home.
Some changes in the tutorials order and content will happen, in order to make the learning curve easier.

KSA, I have a question...

can you, lets say, make character X's objection balloon:
Image
(Also, does anyone know how to make that white star thats behind the objection balloons, or do I just need to paint it myself? >>)

and character Y's a normal :objection: ?

Or are the balloons shared by all characters?

I think you'll find that PWLib by KSATech will probably be the best choice. He's got a lot of great features and allows for the most flexibility(because you basically actually code the entire game using his simple programing language/library). The first release will be pretty soon, and will come with enough tutorials to learn how to code a good game. I'll definitely be tinkering with it and learning, so I'm willing to help the main coder(once we get one) with it and be support.

You can define and use your own balloons.

By default pwlib has included the take that, objection and hold it (gotcha too later), but you can create and use custom balloons.

In pwlib, nothing is static. :damon:

The following tutorials have their code done:

00: Initialization
01: Monologue
02: Better Management
03: Talking
04: Evidence and Profiles
05: Evidence Add Effect

Clarification: PWLib is a script made for my engine AIGE using only AIGE's language, AHLSL. AHLSL was developed by me as well.

Balloons are independent of characters, so you only need to set then up.

The Objection! one is defined in pwlib by this function:

Code:
//Raises an "Objection!"
[pw_raiseobjection]
setvar([pwdoingyell],1);
setgenobjgraphic("pw_yell",11);
setgenobjsizefromtexture("pw_yell");
showgenobj("pw_yell");
placeshake("pw_yell","genobj",60,20,19);
placeflash(5);
wait(60);
hidegenobj("pw_yell");
setvar([pwdoingyell],0);

To create your own balloon, copy the code and change the 11 on setgenobjgraphic("pw_yell",11); to the code of the texture you loaded your balloon to.
loadtexture(40560,"path/to/my/balloon");
and change the 11 to 40560. (and then function name from [pw_raiseobjection] to [pw_raisemyballoon], for example.)
A tuto of this will be part of the PWLib in a Nutshell. Good someone remembered it.

Yes. You call the function pw_raiseobjection and it will run for any characters.

The balloon object itself is totally independent of the character object.

PWLib looks to be a amazingly versatile piece of kit. Good work on churning the tutorials out already KSA, looks like we may see a release pretty soon. Any chance of some of the tutorials getting uploaded somewhere ahead of release.. so a few of us can get studying the language before the program is out? :]

WINE Stuff -> nice.

About releasing tutos before the pwlib actual release: I'll think about it. :hobohodo:

Balloon usage (normally):
<play sfx you want>
<call the function that does the balloon code, like the pw_raiseobjection>

eg.
Code:
loadandplaysfx("01_Payne - Objection.wav",0);
runscript("pw_raiseobjection");

Since we are so close to pwlib's release, I think i need to give some background on how AIGE and PWLib came to exist.

AIGE's first idea is dated from 2002/2003 when a friend on IRC came with the idea of making a graphic novel engine using mircscript. Indeed, he did one. But I thought I could do one too, and thus I started working on it. By that time I didn't knew those games were called "graphic novel", so I gave the name of "Anime Image Game". Since it was an egine of it, Anime Image Game Engine was the decided name. But that AIGE version was too limited (it even had script interpretation!), so I decided to work on one in a real programming language. With that, I chose VB.NET, and a version grew over it, using GDI++ as render. As it was inefficient, I decided to move on to C++ and make something better. The first one that came with it was using DirectDraw. The second used Direct3D (and is the previous version of AIGE to the current one). With that starting to get complicated to edit, add functionality, I started over in mid-2007, and quickly got a better manageable system and it grew fast in the first month (to the point of surpassing all previous engines by a large mark). Thus, a little time later, with AHLSL basics running, a friend showed me PW series. I found it a pretty good game, and a little time from that he mentioned about making a pw game. By that time I knew about MB's CM2.1, but I thought of using AIGE to beyond its original idea: could it make a complex game like a pw game? Only with AHLSL? The project started as PWLib, from Phoenix Wright Library for AIGE, and the first module worked on was the court record. But I stopped development a bit because I found no "urging need" to develop it (my friend was kind of lazy on stuff, and I didn't had a strong idea for a game). Then, I researched for MB CM 2.1 and found the New Casemaker topic on CR. So, a new casemaker? Why now revive PWLib and release it? With tihs motivation, PWLib work restarted. well, the rest is story up until now. We can say KanadaKid was the reason for PWLib's release, indirectly.

Now I was just wondering: what if PWLib wasn't announced? What could be different? What did it "changed" in the casemakers community? What was its importance?
AIGE would be a lot less powerful than it is now, that's for sure, but what did PWLib "did" for the community?

Actually, they're called "Visual Novels". :maya:

Interesting story though. I'm kinda shocked that it started being developed in VB.NET, then went through two C++ versions counting this version. :edgy:

I remember reading they were graphic novels too.

It started on mIRCscript and then went by VB.NET (not if you refer started begin developed by considering real programming languages only).

Actually this (current one) is the third C++ version and hopefully the definitive one. I think I had more smaller scale version between those, but they doesn't need mention (i forgot about some too).

AHLSL only surfaced on the latest AIGE too, but the first one has an unnamed script (that I used a really meh trick to load and interpret on mirc).

Attention:

A little change in plans: I'll just finish the menus effects and release PWLib, so there is a chance of PWLib coming out today or tomorrow.
For everyone who wants to test it, please update your video card drivers to the latest.
I'll leave the guilty/not guilty effect for a near future (I'll start working on it as PWLib is out, so it won't take more than a day or two at most), so in the meanwhile people can get comfy with PWLib's commands and way of working.

The tutorials will be worked on too, and I may put it on my page on HTML very soon, just let me finish the CR effects. I'll post the tutorials as I finish then, too.
