I mean, has the thought of Edgeworth having both as assailants occur? Maybe Gumshoe is the primary assistant for investigation and other things of the sort, while Miku does something else we are not aware of that may assist Edgeworth. (like maybe an equivalent of his own ...system thing like the Magatama or Perceive System)
We also aren't sure what she does, whether helpful or just getting in the way, so we can't say for sure right now.

This is mostly because of a couple points: her description as a "thief", and her depiction climbing on the roof of the mirror house. My take on it is that she'll be following her own agenda in getting involved with these cases and Edgey keeps running in to her... for whatever reason (you know, connections between cases and all that). Or maybe she styles herself a private detective and is trying to compete with Edgey for solving cases.

Thole whole "self-proclaimed" thief thing kind of bothers me already. I seriously doubt she steals anything, or at least, nothing of value. Just an overly-excited teen on mission! One of the things about Maya that bothered me through the series is that I never felt like I could take her seriously, and already Mikumo has the same vibe.
But then, Ema and Trucy both grew on me, sooooo I dunno if I'll get attached to Mikumo yet B: She does have a really cute name.

I suspect that the developers, after they decided to do a game about Edgeworth, deliberately set out to create a cast that will be as annoying to him as possible. We've already got Gumshoe, then there's this Hugo Tennisballs character who considers Edgeworth his rival, and we've got a self-proclaimed thief. Edgeworth's often funniest when he gets really irritated, so this is probably a good thing.

Probably both scenarios in one way or the other because Mikumo looks like she has awesome ninja skills like that.

EDIT: Oh, and btw, since her name translates to something like 'a string of clouds', I'm up for her localized name being something like Skye. Any other ideas?
EDIT AGAIN: I had another idea! XD So as we all know only about three years back Edgey was all don't-look-back-don't-think-just-get-a-guilty-verdict-and-keep-perfection-record-up, right? So, erm, he probably sent a lot of innocent people to jail...or juvenile detention centers. What if Keygirl is simply someone who just got out coming back for revenge?

I don't think they'll reuse a name, but maybe give her a last name that is close to her name meaning. For some reason I'm thinking McCloud (I know, it's lame) or something related to clouds (cumulus, stratus, cirrus, nimbus).
