Here's some food for thought:

Spoiler: "GS 4-4 and GK"
*Vera Misham is a master of forging artwork: over half of the artwork forgery requests that the Mishams receive are of works that have been stolen.
*The modus operandi of the smuggling ring in GK is to steal artwork and replace it with forgeries.
*The criminal mastermind behind GK's smuggling ring was brought on trial a month before Maginfi committed suicide, and supposedly revealed a whole bunch of details about his organization.
*Kristoph Gavin may be a corrupt lawyer, yet for some reason he never had Misham forge evidence until the Zak Gramarye trial came around.... one month after Edgeworth and pals brought down the artwork smuggling scheme in GK and had the ringleader reveal its secrets.
*Surely, the smuggling ringleader chose someone to be his lawyer..... someone like Kristoph?
*For all the supposed chaos that the "undetectable" counterfeit money was causing in Zheng Fa, the authorities sure did flush them out pretty fast once the smuggling ringleader was apprehended. Did the person that design the printing presses used for the counterfeiting operation incorporate some tell-tale signature in it, like Misham claims to always does?

Connect all these pieces of logic together, and one might theorize that the Mishams had have been a vital part of the criminal organization that Edgeworth went up against in GK. Vera's skills as a forger of paintings would surely have landed her a spot as one of the numerous cogs in the smuggling ring. While it is very much a stretch to say that Vera could come up with designs for counterfeit bills (not to mention ruining fowl of Drew's claim of only copying paintings before Kristoph came along), who's to say that creating art with only some special ink from overseas and a printing press isn't a form of painting?

At the very least, this theory explains how Kristoph could have learned about the existence of the Misham family.

Just something to think about..... :hobohodo:

...That's. I don't know. XD I'm just gonna go sit and think about this for now. But so far, it seems rather plausible. Interesting...

A very interesting theory. It is a bit far fetched but possible.

The Zak Gramarye trial was no ordinary trial. At the time of the trial, the Gramarye name was huge. As a result, the whole case received a lot of media and public attention. Winning such a big case would work wonders for Kristoph's career and reputation. But just imagine what would happen if he lost it. There's no guarantee Kristoph intended to use that piece of evidence, but it would be a great Plan B, should he fail to prove Zak's innocence without resorting to such methods or if the torn diary should happen to be presented.

It's only natural that the bill would be easier to get rid of once the ring leader was caught. Think of the situation in Zheng Fa like a sinking boat. As long as water continues to gather, no matter how much you pour out, the boat will continue to sink. But once the water has been stopped from entering the boat, all you have to do is get rid of whatever is left and everything should be fine. It was hard to completely get rid of the bills while they were still being made, but once they were no longer being made, it was easier.

Plus, consider the way the Misham's were living around the time of the Gramarye case. If they had been helping out a smuggling ring, they'd have been doing much better by that point.

Although, it would be an interesting tie-in with Vera almost being kidnapped.
