I always felt really sad to the bone just thinking about Gumshoe...I always imagined in some future game he'd be chief of police with a supersized salary, but then not really be any better off; for instance, he's so used to noodles that anything else tastes weird, and he's still too homesick to bother moving out of his apartment.
Hey, it could be somewhat truth; I have heard stories from people who won the lottery, but then found that changing their lives to adjust to a rich lifestyle was just too much. Instead, they just took it as a nice guarantee that they wouldn't have to worry about money for a long time.

It isn't just Edgeworth. Franny's threatened a salary cut once or twice. And they rarely give Gummy the respect he deserves. Come to think of it, it seems every prosecutor, with the possible exception of Payne, has treated Gumshoe like crap.

I'm sure the fact Gumshoe is a motherfeckin tank is a reason why he's not knackered.
However he is somewhat...dim....at times, the Chief of police probably swindled him out of any royalties.
