Is punk dead? What is punk? Is it a form of music? Or is it more than that?

Discuss away. You know you want to.

Punk is defined less with style and more with method, sort of like the blues. It's basically about doing "whatever" and not allowing something to restrain you. While this sounds self-explanatory, it isn't always obvious just listening. A lot of early punk-rock was a short-lived movement because it wasn't particularly strong musically and it, from my view, is not very fun to listen to.

I fear for the future of this topic actually, as it will only go downhill from here.

Touche. I get the feeling that this topic will somehow become about Blink 182 and Sum 41 and other shit bands I can't be asked to namecheck.

Hmmm.... sorta. The Offspring are a band i'm somewhat on the fence with. Their early stuff was great, although I can't say I approve as much of the comedy songs.

That said, they're responsible for the fame of Epitaph Records, the greatest punk label on earth. So yeah, The Offspring are fine to discuss here, I guess.

Seriously, though, I don't get what is so great about it. It's loud, gives you migraines and very rough.

Not really into punk.
Except for the Ramones, and the Anti Nowhere League (which is more like punk metal)

And yet the Ramones are still interesting to put on for a spin.

Honorable mention goes to Hot Water Music, The Queers, Propaghandi, The Residents, Bald Vulture (although they can go get another lyricist because "GIRL I WANT YOUR BOOBS GIRL I WANT YOUR BOO-OOBS GIRL I WANT YOUR BOOBS AND I WANT YOUR SNATCH" is not punk, it's garbage), Vulgaires Machins, Bérurier Noir and various other bands.

No the first few bands I obviously did not hear about through Mitch Clem, no sir-ee.

The Anti-Nowhere League are good, although better live than on record. Then again, most good punk bands are.

I've got their "So What? - live" album. It's the reason i started liking them.

I discovered them when they came to my city, and a good local band was supporting them.
