My favorite MC is the Busdriver, but I'm also a good fan of Talib Kweli, Aceyalone, MF DOOM (or DOOM or whatever his moniker is nowadays), and a good portion of their collaborations with various artists. If we get into hip-hop groups I like instead of individual people, that will take a very long time so let's move on.

And in case you don't like hip-hop or have a goofy perception of it (WHY BLACK PEOPLE RAP ABOUT GUNS AND HOES I DON'T LIKE?!??!?!?), listen to The Weather by Busdriver & Radioinactive with Daedelus and it could probably change how you look at rap musik. It is an abstract, goofy, good-natured and humorous work of art.

I like what I've heard from Aceyalone. .-.

and I have to say, people really need a better perception of hip-hop. My boyfriend really likes it.. so I have a much better appreciation for it now. : )

Epik High is a K-hip hop group and my all time favorite. They range from more of a "pop-ish" sounding hip-hop to a more darker, serious style.
Here are links to some of my favorites(all are English subbed):
"One"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqIwAaXzPHQ
"Breakdown"(violent mv)

"Paranoia prt. 3"

"Scapegoat"

"Soul"(my new theme song lol)

Ok, last one. Sorry, I just get carried away... There are too many songs I like :edgy:

Edgey's a pimp XD
Includes the hits: "Defense's got no case" and "A Prosecutor's reputation".

Seriously though i do have that album of Sir Mix a Lot's. And also have The Marshal Mathers LP and the Beastie Boys License to Ill. And there's a few other songs i like.
Otherwise rap and hip hop isn't my thing.

Grand Corps Malade is phenomenal but yeah.

I'll allow slam in this topic because I'll allow it.

Omnikrom is also pretty decent somewhat. At least they're fucking better than TTC (who they collaborate with relatively often)

Problem is their latest recording is absolutely horrible. Kinda the same with TTC to be fair.

Obviously Busdriver et al. but that's been said already.

I've got Nas' entire discography. I don't really know why (not a fan or anything, I just do).
If Gnarls Barkley counts or at least Cee-Lo's solo work, them too.

Nujabes (who contributed to Samurai Champloo's soundtrack; e.g. BATTLECRY) is a new favourite of mine, especially his Hydeout Productions collaborations with people like Cise Starr who'd give rap greats a run for their money. Check 'em out (can't recommend this track nearly enough).

Nujabes also does a lot of instrumental stuff like this one which is particularly awesome.

MF Doom is very good. I've been bumping MM Food for the past few weeks. Doom has bars on bars in this mothafucka (Deep Fried Frenz is an incredible example).

Mos Def's new album is one of the greatest things to hit your eardrums in a long time. Go cop it. Nothing else to say about that.

Also, the moment I've been waiting for for over a year and a half: Lupe Fiasco finally dropped the first single for his new album Lasers. The single features Matthew Santos and is currently #6 HipHop track on iTunes, and in hopes of it rising through the ranks and perhaps taking down Drake's Best I Ever Had (which is a decent track), I'm just gonna post a direct link here. If you had an itunes gift card lying around and you didn't know what to use it on, I'm telling you that this is it. http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt ... 4&s=143441

Anyone been listening to Drake at all in the past 4 months? His mixtape So Far Gone was pretty great, in terms of production. He doesn't always go all out on lyrics(though there are some incredible exceptions), but his flow is pretty unique and I'd recommend checking it out. It's one of my favorite mixtapes all year, and you can't go wrong since it's free.

:EDIT: I almost forgot. Busdriver is a pro. I have to admit I never jumped on his catalog, but the tracks I have heard are more than impressive. Imaginary Places, whaaat. He takes that Twista shit to another level.

Nas is one of the greatest. As long as you have his discography, you just give a couple spins on Illmatic, as well as his newest untitled album. Illmatic is actually some of the greatest music to bump in the whip, and the best part is that Nas actually raps about relevant topics.

Only a few of the older Gnarls Barkley tracks (Necromancer, Transformer, Feng Shui) would count as hip-hop alone, but those few tracks are better than most of what's out there these days. Most of Cee-Lo's solo work is hip-hop, and its some of the best, without a doubt. Basically, anything Lo touches turns to gold.

I love Nujabes. I bumped the first Samurai Champloo soundtrack so much when last september hit hit, and I even considered spitting something over a couple of those beats. I really like the album because it's the most similar to the beats CDs that my producer friends used to make. I try to emulate the style of some of these tracks when I make my beats. Its also funny how one of my favorite tracks, Mystline, isn't a beat at all.

My homie put me on this new mixtape by XV. This is really brilliant in terms of both production and lyrics. There's a strong focus on balancing hip-hop and melodies, so there's plenty here for a musician/hip-hop enthusiast such as myself to get into. Check out Last Cause, Final Fantasy XV, Incredible, I Want You, and Going Endless. Those really stuck out on the first listen through.

Also, I recommend you check out the new single for Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3, "Run This Town" featuring Rihanna and Kanye West. If you didn't like D.O.A., I assure you this'll win the album back.

I admit, I was never a Jay-Z fan either. I never got into any of his albums, but I do enjoy some of the singles that he's put out over his career. This is one of the most impressive production-wise and lyric-wise.

Unrelated note, I was going through some of these old Lupe mixtapes that I (the so-called "Lupe fan") never span more than a couple of times, and I came across the track Glory. It caught me off guard for sure. This is one of the most impressive hip-hop songs as a whole. His rhymes and his flow are just- well, don't let me explain it. Click the link.

And I second Illmatic being (at the very least one of) the best albums out there. I've been meaning to get Nas's "untitled" album for some time, I'll probably snatch it today since I'm not busy. :V

EDIT: The Blueprint is also really good. I wasn't too much of a Jay-Z fan back then until I heard this album.
