Since here on Court Records we have a topic on users' favorite VGM, I though I'd do the opposite and ask you guys what you think the worst video game music is.

Here's my submission for today. Bohemian Rhapsody from Wayne's World on SNES. I'm dead serious. :beef:

Sorry if I've permanently ruptured you're eardrums and caused profound bleeding.

What horrible abominations of electronic aural composition do you guys hate the most? :yuusaku:

Final Fantasy VIII: Eyes on Me. As much as I love Uematsu, I pretty much see this song as a low. Granted, I'm biased against FFVIII, but the Latin pieces were amazing. This song however, this song is just terrible all around the board. Yes, I'm bringing in the controversy, let's bring it on.

And to post something I feel we can all agree on, have the title screen to Crazy Bus.

I apologize for that miniscule rant.

Dracula's Tears from Castlevania: Dawn Of Sorrow. While I do enjoy most other Castlevania songs, this one just feels really out of place for the setting.

I liked Eyes On Me... but I admit, the lyrics desperately, desperately needed an English adaptation. Preferably by someone who spoke actual English.

I'll throw my vote in for "Let's Climb That Hill" aka The Muse theme from Suikoden 2. It actually starts out okay, but then... you begin to notice something doesn't quite agree with the arrangement and the quality of synthesizer instruments used. And then... the trumpets kick in on the second verse and HGHADSJFDSA;KLJFDKLSHGL;J;;;; :beef:

If you only have to hear it once, it's not that horrible, but at that point in the game, you spend a LOT of time in Muse, so listening to this over and over is torture.

Yeah, I was just as surprised. Thanks to AVGN, I now know that it exists. I don't think I have to tell you how bad it is. Nostalgia Critic, FTW!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cWGZkK-KsY

That piece doesn't sound that bad. Out of place doesn't necessarily equal bad. For instance, take the song Wandering Ghosts from Symphony of the Night. It sounds out of place too, but it's one of the best songs in the series.

Sorry, I know this thread is about bad video game music; but I couldn't resist! :will:

Now if you want BAD Castlevania music, that honor goes to "I Am the Wind" which is also from Symphony of the Night. I mean really? Some of the best video game music, and we have this one track which ruins it!? Why Konami, why?

Castle of Deceit
Terrible game with only 3 tracks or so. Definitely want to play this game in mute before your ears bleed.

I sort of like Eye on Me.
Not so much the english version, I like the japanese one more. I just wish I could find the ballad version of the japanese one, not the summer festival one, no matter how pretty it is.

Twilight Princess' Encounter music.
I love Zelda games, but the music you get when encountering an enemy in Twilight Princess sounds terrible to me and I just want to mute the TV when it happens.

Skyward Sword: Imprisoned Battles.
I just hate that music. It annoys me, it sounds terrible, especially in Skyward where I liked majority of the music. The orchestra was a great idea, but that one just ... uuurgh. I mute the TV when I fight him.

For Twilight Princess, are you referring to the encounters in the Twilight World? The regular one, I find, is just fine, but the Twilight one is just terribly grating on the ears.

I'm usually a huge fan of Kochi Sugiyama's Dragon Quest scores. I think they represent the best of video game symphonic composition. I have to agree with you, though that DQ9 was a disappointment. Granted, I've only listened to the Symphonic Suite with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, but I really just found the melodies to be bland and forgettable. At least he got his act back together with DQ10. While not as good as his previous works, at least it was serviceable.

Most pirate games have horrible music to go along with their equally horrible gameplay. Take Somari for example.

Here's the Cheetahmen theme from Action 52. It's either one of the worst themes ever composed or the best. You decide!

This song's apparently real popular online and there's been tons of remixes, especially in Japan. There's even a video where they compare the theme to music from a certain series that you should be familiar with.

Actually, I don't think this track is all that bad.

However, am I the only one who is tired of Roxas' sad theme from Kingdom Hearts 2? That track is overused and after listening to it too long it feels like that track is trying too hard to be sad.

This song is made even worse (if such a thing is possible) by the fact that it was on the same system that ONE-WINGED ANGEL (and the SSJ3 Goku theme from Ultimate Battle 22) came from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?nomobile=1&v=0kcF7E69C6Q

I'd also like to add anything from Phantasy Star Zero.

I have no idea what happened there. It just sounds like they hired an 8-year-old to slap random notes into a finale program, and built-in strings and chords just automatically accompanied the "melody." I want to like the music, but it's such a lazy effort and I feel cheated.

The soundtrack version is a little better, but I can name songs from 8-bit video games that sound like they have more effort put into them. The NES era Mario games, for one...

Perhaps if you listen to it too much but I don't think it's so bad. Not the strongest of Sonic Tunes but nowhere near 'Worst Video Game Music' levels.

It's literally the thing keeping me from returning to Shadow Hearts...the battle theme is so boring and bland and drills into you and this is an RPG so you have to hear it a LOT.

Wily Stage 3-5
It's sooooo droning and obnoxious! I mean, if there's one thing you can grant Mega Man 2, it's that it has some pretty solid chiptunes. Wily Stage 1-2 is one of the most famous songs of the 8-bit era, after all. But this is just...ew. It just grinds at my eardrums. Get it away, it scares me.
