Have you listened to that Mob Examination Allegro? C'est magnifique! And of course, we can't forget the fact that the orchestra feel instead of the electronic feel used in the first three PW:AA, AJ:AA, and AAI is super awesome.

Mob examination allegro is awesome. Especially the part from around 00:30 to 01:05. And I love that they used so much remixed PW music, both in the English court and Labyrinthia, not only Objection but also stuff like Logic and trick and Prelude. The puzzle theme was... comforting to listen to, the Professor's theme is good as usual, and I really liked the Opening theme, Pursuit (in Labyrinthia), The Stake's witnesses, the knight music and Theme of the United front. But my absolute favourite has to be The courtroom's magician.

I still think my favorite is Omen ~ Footfall of Turnabout or in the official name: Premonition ~ A Two-step Turnabout, which the longer you get into the game is on the brink of replacing Nick's Objection! 2012 whenever you solve a contradiction in court. Take a listen to it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7htn5NsWFc

Quite short, quite unique and epic IMO. Really gives that "A new possibility presents itself" kind of vibe, but I guess it isn't the Core 20xx theme of the game. Maybe that is The Courtroom's Magician?

My favourite is the music that plays when solving the puzzles themselves, seeing as I've had it stuck in my head ever since I first heard it.

For some reason I also really love Mob Cross-Examination Allegro as well, even though you heard it more than enough in the game.

Also really love Phoenix Wright ~ Objection! 2012 (The witch trial variant), The Courtroom's Magician, Omen ~ Footfalls of a Turnabout, and Telling the Truth 2012 (again, witch trial variant)

The new make of Prof Layton's theme was also brilliant. I find myself listening to the music from this game more than the others now, most likely due to the instrumentation.

For some reason the music playing when they're sucked in by the book makes me laugh. But it's actually very good.

I thought that one was the other "Logic" theme. Like how in the GK games, there are two "Trick" themes.

Post subject:  Re: The music!

I personally didn't really like it all that much (actually, I hated it ^^;), but it certainly was a new take on the old soundtrack formula, kind of like "Courtroom Magic".

...Not that I cared about these two a whole lot. Still, the new versions of basically all already established courtroom themes were amazing ^^

I mean, "Deathknell Dungeon" and "Witches' Court Convenes" and "Sealed ~ The Darkness Within" had this great, dark atmosphere (though the last one feels good only when it gets started - after that, the melody gets a bit boring... I just felt it needed to be mentioned) both "Cross-Examinations" perfectly mirror the nature of the game (as a crossover) and are quite well-made arranges, "Objection" and "Spell-braker"... don't even get me started, it's pure awesomeness.

"Confess the Truth" is great too, though... It's strange. I'm sure my first impression with this theme was much stronger than it is now... I think it was same with Dual Destinies' one... At first I think it's amazing, and then it's just "good". (I prefer DD's now though)

"The Trial of the Great Witch" might be my favorite. I just love the atmosphere, it just screams "grand finale"... Strange it didn't feel this way as the trial continued, somehow. Ironically, the trial's beginning up to after Espella's testimony was the most impactful part of the whole trial... Aside from Layton's entrance maybe.

None of the regular games did this though, but it does kinda fit the bill for this game's upbeat logic theme that you find in both of the AAI games.

I've been trying to stay away from a lot of the soundtrack as to not spoil myself on when they kick in during the game, but I decided to give the Objection theme a listen to since I thought the original Objection theme was kind of meh

Holy shit! I was nearly knocked out of my chair. It was that good. It sounded so grandiose and epic. Goddamn. I don't even have it in context yet (which only improves my impressions of themes) but this one was just incredible. It's by far my favorite Objection theme and one of my favorites in the series. In fact, it's so good that it's increased my appreciation for the original Objection theme the same way Confess the Truth 2009 increased my appreciation for 2002's and Objection 2013 did for Objection 2004

I think I'm in love

JM: Did you hear the rearrangement of Objection! 2001 or was it Objection! 2012? IMO 2012 is the most triumphant and grandiose one and I think it's even better than Objection! 2013.

In general. Get ready for the whole OST of this game. It's so amazing, especially in the Phoenix Wright department. Layton music is also good though, it always creates an air of mystery and it's very calming in all the tranquil moments.

Since you listened to the soundtrack, I really must ask you listen to the Witch Trial Pursuit theme, it's VERY good, and also the Witch Trial Cross-Examination music, they're three of the best pieces along with the English Court Suite.

I have heard the Witch Trial Pursuit theme, though I don't think I'll look at the others. I like to try to stay radio silent when a new AA comes out. I did pretty well with Dual Destinies, only watching the first TGS trailer and the Blackquill trailer (so the only songs that I got spoiled on were "Dark Age", "Objection", "Pursuit" and Blackquill's theme) and I saw a review that included a screencap of Edgeworth and Pearl. That was already more than I would've liked to be spoiled, because I did want to be surprised by the new Prosecutor at the very least (that's like a tradition for every AA game at this point). I know music doesn't "spoil" the game, but I do like to hear a new piece while playing and I've already heard more than I would've liked

(And the recent trailer for DGS is probably the only one I'll watch)

It's a shame you only get to hear the old Objection once or twice then :-P

The main objection theme of the game is the Witch Trial one. All the oldschool themes are just used in the tutorial for Phoenix Wright which is quite short.

Post subject:  Re: The music!

I really didn't think too much of it at first but I think the 2012 version tops the arrangement of 2001. It works really well during court segments. Tell The Truth is also amazing, but I'm not totally amazed by the new Pursuit. It works really well in context of the gameplay and "cornering" someone or making some wild assertion but it's not that amazing when you just listen to it outside of the game.

I might consider this to be my favorite Ace Attorney soundtrack.
I haven't beaten it yet, so I can't say for sure but I really enjoy what I've heard so far.
Casting magic / Spellbreaker is my favorite, as of now.

Post subject:  Re: The music!

I really dig this soundtrack. So far, I'd say it's on par with AAI but I haven't gotten the full feel of the soundtrack yet and I haven't listened to it for nearly as long. I can tell my opinion of the track will only improve, so for now I'll say

AAI2>>>>>>>>>>DD>PLvAA>AAI>T&T>AJ>PW>JFA

My favorite track would probably be the one I mentioned earlier: Objection ~ English Court Suite. I also want to give special mention to "Barroom." Such a simple melody but it was very atmospheric and lovely

Other notable tracks that I loved:

Pursuit ~ Casting Magic (cliche, I know, but c'mon...)
All puzzle themes
LINK
Zacharias Barnham ~ Labyrinthia Knight
Omen ~ Footfalls of the Turnabout (this is the only logic theme in the series I like)
Theme of the United Front
Tell the Truth 2012
The Final Witness
Turnabout Sisters Theme (Music Box)
The Witches' Theme ~ Chase

Notably, this is the only AA OST where I didn't like a single one of the reminiscence/recollection themes. (Nevermind. I love the Legendary Fire one. The other ones are pretty forgettable, though)Also, I'm in the minority on this, but I hated the mob examination themes. ESPECIALLY the Allegro. It just felt very overused and I didn't like to listen to it, especially when there was only one witness on the stand. The remixed allegro theme would've worked just fine for those situations

Listening to the OST more, I found two more songs that I really love. "The Ruler and the Alchemist" is a really nice one (and it gets great around 40 seconds in) and I also really love Professor Layton's theme (hate his second one, though...)

Author:  linkenski [ Sun Sep 07, 2014 1:20 am ]
Post subject:  Re: The music!

...which is funny because the second Layton theme sounds pretty much like a recreation of the original one xD They really touched up his theme in the PLvPWAA edition with higher octave strings and other more orchestral instruments rather than electric and modern instruments.

I think to me placing PLvPWAA alongside other AA games feels a bit dishonest when half the OST is Layton-themed music so it makes it hard to compare. Anywho, I'd probably go with a rank order like this:

PWAA > PLvPWAA > JFA > T&T > AJAA > AAI2 > DD > AAI

And this reminds me why I hate doing these lists. When I think of JFA I always think of a lot of really bad musics but then I remember how many really good pieces it brought to the franchise that have stayed ever since, and likewise, DD has a really nice sound to it for the most part, but I just feel like it was inconsistent in instrumentation and new key themes lacked something to take them beyond "easy-to-listen-to". AJAA has a lot of meh music but about 5 or 6 pieces that I really, really like.

Yeah, I'm kind of weird with the music (I love Franziska's Great Revival but don't like Edgeworth's, for example). His second theme feels a little unnecessary, and it doesn't fit Layton as well

It's hard for me to rank soundtracks, too (JFA is last for me, even though Maya 2002 and Pearl's theme reside in the ever-coveted "God Tier" of my music rankings, while AJ and PLvAA have none (too early to say for PL, though)). It is half Layton, but I think Sugimori did a great job at blending the two genres together. I mentioned before that Barroom was one of my favorites on the track, even though it sounds like nothing from an AA game. Anyway, even though I liked the soundtrack to DD more, I think it's safe to say Iwadare had an easier job. The soundtrack to this game is more 'impressive', even though I personally don't like it as much

That shouldn't even count as a puzzle. There was nothing to solve.

And since I can't seem to find a proper answer, was the music actually performed by an orchestra, or was it produced by a MIDI?

I have nothing against you people. I love you all.

But that puzzle was EXTREMELY easy for me. I think why I was so good at it is because I've played the Layton games 20x each, so those sort of puzzles seem like a piece of cake to me when it doesn't even include using logic. Also, I'm good at memorizing stuff, so that helps. And... er... I'm a musician, so the only thing challenging to me was trying to find out how to play the melody and the counter-melody in "Confrontation."
Haha, back onto music... Best transition ever. But seriously, though, if you have a question about the key or the time signature (hooray for music stuff), I'm your man. Woman. Whatever. I'm a girl.

*Edit: Almost forgot: All of the music was recorded live by an orchestra, btw. And love that avatar, cuz I love Hinata

I really like The Swords of labrynthia. Just goes really well with the notion that the Inquisition in the game has a great amount of power in Labrynthia, and also goes well with Barnham's character. Also like The Storyteller's Tower because it really fits the setting of a building that is so grand but also so mysterious. For much the same reason I like The Hidden Garden, except that it's a bit different in that it's a bit more serene because, well, its a garden, not some almighty tower. Also really fond of Twilight Memories in that it really highlights the tragedy of Belduke's death and it's impact on the other characters. I also enjoy The Darkness Within because I'm really drawn to basically anything with organs. The Final Witness was also done really well and serves it's purpose in the climax of the story, And I also really love the Pursuit theme because I always enjoy Pursuits and the one in this game was Amazing.
