So what is Guard No. 9's name in English? I've been practicing with N'pacapapocolpen for a while and have gotten the hang of it. Now no tongue twister will stand in my way! >:D

But it's just so fun to say that someone's been N'pacapapocolpen'd in somewhere.

I could only state the German name, but it's so long and complicated that I already forgot.

I vaguely recall finishing the game without enough picarats and have replayed the game for missing puzzles. Don't hold me to this, but I think the requirement is somewhere around the 4500 mark. (I believe the cap on picaracts is 5000, and the hint coins number 200+ in all.)

On a scale of Dual Destinies to Justice for All, how easy is the game? (Is it as easy as Dual Destinies?)

So far it's been pretty easy (Up to chapter 8), and there's been no need for hint coins whatsoever, I've only needed one for a puzzle, and that's it. At least this means you can continue with the story.

Does anyone else notice the screen not render properly for a single frame occasionally? Like pieces of the character models are out of place? I can't help but wonder if I may have received a faulty cart or something.

Nah, that isn't due to bad cars. They have checksums and whatnot these days. It's a programming/animation error.

The graphics engine seems a little rushed this time, it has quite a lot of framerate issues. I am stunned that they even managed to screw that up when all it does is rendering predefined scenes from preset camera angles. It's not exactly a difficult version of the visibility problem.

Spoiler: Whole game
Was it ever revealed what actually happened on the liner at the beginning of the game? (ie. who hit Olivia over the head) they set it up as one of the big mysteries and then Phoenix half-way through just concludes "oh it was probably a witch" and they leave it at that. Knowing the twist it just seems incredibly unlikely that anyone else was one the ship and especially that they'd be able to remain hidden in the ship.

I know most of the Layton games kind of fall apart looking back, but this plot thread just seemed to be dropped entirely.

So, how did they get the main characters to Labyrinthia? Messing with them once there can be explained with the usual methods, but those methods don't work outside of Labyrinthia.

Spoiler:
It was never confirmed, in-game or in the extras, but it's safe to assume that the one who struck Olivia was Darklaw. Though she never admitted to being involved, she was completely unconcerned about the trial in London. Unlike the witch trials that she knew were mockeries, the one in London was legitimate. Certainly, once they returned to Labyrinthia, the matter would be dropped anyhow, but she could have at least shown some concern, since she was fully aware of how easily traumatized her friend could be.

All I can speculate; in the case Nick wasn't the lawyer on the case, Darklaw planned to reveal the truth to Espella at some point, so she wouldn't be scarred for life believing that she assaulted someone.

Spoiler:
By boat, of course, but probably not that liner sailing out of London. They were knocked unconscious long enough to be slipped into a world of hallucinations, and if I recall correctly, it's a difference of a few days between Carmine's accident and the trial in London.

Thankfully, the accident in the park is somewhat explained in one of the special episodes, and it's suggested that Scotland Yard may have known the secrets behind the witchcraft.

Maybe they wanted Layton to stay more similar stylistically to the original Layton games? I can imagine them trying to make the styles fit together, without redefining any of them too much...

Spoiler:
Hey, I dunno how that instant-knockout bell works either, but apparently Darklaw had one on her. How else could they have landed themselves on an island of the coast of England unless they actually were in France without realizing it? Even after they regained their actual memories, they recalled nothing about being transported there.

So, yeah, I guess being "transported" into the book comes to about the people getting a whiff of hallucinogens and someone ringing a tiny bell that collectively knocks them out for several days.

Spoiler:
it wasn't properly adressed by the narrative but I'd assume it was because Darklaw was trying to steal back Espella first from Layton, then from the boat where she had to knock out Olivia, but as Mr. Smiles discovered the crime-scene she was forced to cover it up and take Espella to court. Then because Wright and Maya ended up proving Espella not-guilty Darklaw had to take all three of them back to Labyrinthia. However she got them to think they were sucked into a book isn't explained however.

Welcome to the Court.
Spoiler: To your first question
The culprit of the prologue case is never confirmed, but it's suggested that it's Darklaw.

I don't want to spoil too much from the DLC material, but I'll say that whatever has happened in London is closely monitored by Scotland Yard.

I am not sure it is suggested at all who did that. People just blindly guess that it is a named character because it's an easy target.

How does the main prosecutor rank against others in the series? Is he a God like Von Karma, difficult like Edgeworth (and arguably Simon), or embarrassingly easy like Klavier, Godot, or Yumihiko? Also, who is he closest to personality-wise?

Well, Simon can bully others when he's pissed, while Zack is just strict with everyone. I'd say he's a little closer to Edgeworth, but without the classiness.

Besides, the dog is the more important one here.

Thanks for the quick responses! Two more

Is the tutorial prosecutor a descendant of Payne?

When does the game take place? After GS3 but before Phoenix's disbarment? Or is it not even canon so it doesn't matter?

Hm, his name is "Flynch", so probably not, but I personally think he's actually a distant cousin or something.

Since we hear Maya fling out "Zvarri!" out of nowhere at one point, I assume during or after GS3. In any case, it's before Nick's disbarment. The DLC Special Episodes are non-canon, though.

Maybe it takes place between 3-2 and 3-3. That would explain why Phoenix never got any notifications that he put up the, "worst defense ever" during Maggey's trial

Maybe Tigre was able to impersonate Nick because Nick was away overseas at the time!!

1. How many breakdowns are in the game and how would you rank them overall compared to others in the series?

2. For the DLC episodes, are there ones that act as mini-trials? Are they all pretty small, or do they run a decent length?

Spoiler: Question 1
It's a little hard to quantify? There's 6 animations I'd call 'breakdowns', I suppose, but only two or three of them are really up to the freakout standards of the main series. The others are comparatively short or low-key.

Spoiler: Question 2
No, all the episodes are small, dialogue-only affairs with a puzzle included. None are more than 10 or 15 minutes, I'd say.

Hi! I've largely stepped back from C-R due to life stuff. Please contact one of the other staff members for help!
