None of those questions were really spoilers, so there was no need to tag them. But there are spoilers for the answers, so: Spoiler: Question 1 (whole game spoilers) Spoiler: Question 2 Spoiler: Question 3 Spoiler: Question 4 |

Without spoilers, how would you rate the story and how does it compare to other Layton games and other Phoenix Wright games as well? |

I've just picked up a copy yesterday from the Nintendo e-shop since I was too impatient waiting for its European release in 2014. So far, I am enjoying every moment of it, though I'm still in the beginning of the game (haven't gotten to chapter 1 yet), and so far it feels soooo easy. How is the difficulty curve in this game? I'd prefer separate perspectives for the investigation and trial segments, since I don't think they're completely comparable with one another. |

I thought you'd already played the game ^^' Both investigation and trial parts stay relatively easy. The investigation parts are more like Layton, so I guess that the difficulty is derived from the puzzles (but the puzzles are easier/there are less variations than normal Layton games). The trial parts aren't that difficult either, partially because of a limit on evidence items. The curve goes up as you progress in the game, but it's (purposedly) kept quite accessible for both audiences. |

I watched a playthrough of it on Nico through to chapter 1, but wanted to try out the game for myself instead of spoiling everything. (I have been spoiled to the ending thanks to watching a collection of cutscenes... in hindsight, it probably wasn't that great a decision, but it was worth the surprise reveal.) It's also why I've been avoiding this part of the forums. Also, the music is so amazing. I could listen to it forever... By the way, is the DLC menu unlocked after the 1st chapter, or do I have to play through the whole game? |

Even if the DLC episodes are non-canon, they're written by Takumi (and associates). They're worth a try at least. Spoiler: About Mahone... Narumiya's voice is starting to get on my nerves. He makes Nick seem half-asleep through everything. Now, I can imagine Nick objecting in his sleep, but everything else is like a low mumble. |

Post subject: | Re: "I just want to know one thing" - PLvsGS edition |
Spoiler: About Mahone, no real spoilers Considering how much more voice there is in this game compared to GS5, I really wish Level-5 had gotten Takayuki Kondo to do Phoenix's voice here. There's one line, very late in the game, that Narimiya's delivery made me burst out laughing. Spoiler: For people who have finished |

Now I can't help but imagine Phoenix in this game as hobo-Nick. The voice would definitely fit that way. |

We all love making fun of Capcom's DLC practices, but I would pay for DLC replacing Narumiya's voice. (真顔 (I am looking forward to Narumiya in the new Aibou season starting this week though!) Ah, maybe I should finally replay the game too now. It's been almost a year since it was released and I've only played it once! |

Edit: I shoulda just played through to find answers for those first two questions, haha... Based on one line that Maya randomly throws out at one point, "Zvarri!", I've come to the conclusion that this game takes place some time during or after T&T. Unless she's able to come up with that term on her own (which would be oddly coincidental), I'm sure she picked it up from somewhere. Besides, if it's after T&T... Spoiler: prologue Though, I remember from somewhere in another thread that Nick makes a comment about not meeting a "real butler before". Could someone clarify when and in what vague context he says it? |

Post subject: | Re: "I just want to know one thing" - PLvsGS edition |
I think it was during the second Witch Trial, or at least in that case. And it was just a comment on that character whose name I've forgotten but who was basically a butler IIRC >_> And you could it as a true statement both before and after GS2... |

2nd trial? Spoiler: Do you mean ...I've reached the 9th chapter now, and I still don't quite understand the "story" of the Storyteller himself. So far, he seems like a pretentious jerk who only cares about himself. Spoiler: Edit: This is a facepalm-worthy post of mine. I just had to keep going and stop asking questions. |

Spoiler: Please, tell me only the dubbed shouts. Like Maya, who shouts Hold it in 1-4 (I think) but we don't actually hear her voice. I know this may be a long question, sorry and thank you very much. |

Deleted that extra post. In this game, anyone who does one of those shouts has it voiced - there's no "silent" interjections. So I can't recall exactly who has them off the top of my head - there's a lot. |

Actually, there is one interjection bubble that isn't voiced, but it's long and used only once (twice if you count the DL episodes). Spoiler: And that one is... I don't remember if there are any witnesses who DON'T have a voiced interjection. They all shout "HOLD IT!" at least once, I think. |

It's just in the DLC it's silent, I thought. And I don't think all the witnesses yell "HOLD IT" at least once. I'm pretty sure some of the ones in case 3 don't, for instance. |

I have a question that's been bugging me for a while, and seeing as this game's coming out in under 3 months time, I might as well post it. Do Phoenix and Layton have equal play time? the only gameplay I've seen of the game, is Phoenix gets 2 cases (London and Witch) and Layton seems to have a multitude of investigation and puzzle time? Is that just bias on the uploader's parts? Or do you play as Layton in more of the game as you do Phoenix? |

Well hopefully your right and it will just come out just a few months after Europe or hopefully sooner. |

From what I've seen thus far Mr. Layton is pretty much always ahead of everyone in terms of thinking and reaching the solution, isn't he? I was kinda hoping that Wright would show Layton his skills of turning the most hopeless situations into a win; does that actually happen, or is Layton always ahead of him, in court or otherwise? It doesn't count if Layton guides him like Mia. |
Author: | linkenski [ Sun Mar 30, 2014 6:50 pm ] |
Post subject: | Re: "I just want to know one thing" - PLvsGS edition |
It's more just that Layton always has the right ideas. He's rarely ahead of Wright with actual conclusions. He'll often poke Wright and go "Mr Wright. Maybe you're thinking about this the wrong way?" or something like that. It's not like he just knows what's going on and doesn't want to help Wright like Mia would sometimes do. |

By the end, though, he and Luke definitely are. |
