Welcome to The Best discussion about Debeste character...wait, did I mix those two up?
Frankly, Sebastian is my second favorite character in the series, I love his character development, and his personality is just Debeste.
Infact, he brought most of my favorite moments in the game.

Debeste is really funny and cute.
For some reason, I love his personality.

Yeah, he's a bit of a crybaby, but that's what makes him unique.
His reactions are funny and comical, just like any other characters in the Ace Attorney games.

I wonder if we'll get to see him in AA6.

I doubt we'll see him again, but I know I'd love to.
And I love his slow evolution from cry baby to complete fucking badass.
As said by Edgeworth (If I remember correctly) "He's becoming quite reliable, isn't he?" or something like that, anyway.

I'd love to see the new competent Sebastian in action, but still with parts of his silly personality in tact.

He's my second favourite AA-character. I found him funny and adorkable at first, then character developement kicked in and woh. I was incredibly touched (that logical chess-session, I just wanted to give the boy a hug), and talk about taking a lesson in badass later on, I was impressed. I adore him.

This. I didn't know how to say it...but this is what I was going to type.

I alternate between his themes, the sisters ballad, and great revival.

Ooh, I love this guy. I love how amazingly stupid he is, and he's really sweet too, and his badass upgrade was amazing and badass. I've got nothing but love for this one.

I actually really liked how your 'rival' is actually an idiot for once. It really suits a character like Edgeworth and it allowed for some interesting dynamics you don't see often.

Exactly!

I agree, a stupid prosecutor fits being the rival to a drunk-off-his-ass prosecutor perfectly.

Well, I see Courtney as the rival rather than Debeste, but still, the arrogant idiot adds a nice dynamic between both Edgeworth and Courtney.

Anyway, I first saw Debeste as an arrogant prick, but came to care for him in the final case. He's part of the fathers and sons theme that is used numerous times in the game.

Sebastian is cool, I really like how he redeems himself at the end. He's also interesting because he's so inculpable and yet so sure of himself, but it's only because his father bribed the teachers.

Spoiler: 5-3
...wait that's actually kinda like what happened to Hugh O'Connor

Blaise, on the other hand, is just an asshole and I love him.

Well it wouldn't have worked without Courtney being there. It would just be Edgeworth picking on an idiot. Still he does have a good arc to work with. Hell maybe we'll see Competent!Sebastian somewhere down the line in a future game.

I'm actually surprised this thread didn't exist yet!

I really liked Sebastian. I've always been a fan of these kind of characters.
But for some reason, I didn't completely feel for him when he got his development (or at least not as much as I would have otherwise) simply because I saw this development coming from the moment the guy was introduced. I'm not sure why or how I saw it coming, because I typically have my brain turned off when playing games and don't try to look ahead in the plot. But something just made it obvious for me right from the beginning
I just immediately could tell he was ditzy but not a bad guy at all. That someone was pulling the strings for him and that he'll break free of those strings with all his incompetence (and thus insecurity).

Because of those blazing eyes in your avatar, you were able to see the future! :maya-shock:

Blaise, on the other hand, is just an asshole and I love him.

After playing AAI2 I noticed that Debeste's characterization is basically the same as Bobby Fulbright when you think about it. He has a word that he obsesses over ("best" vs "justice") that the main characters exploit to sway him, because he's also quite dumb and the writing plays on that fact. I mean, they're still completely different with different backstories, but I feel like there's a pattern there.

Y-Yeah!
And they're both in law enforcement, plus, I think we can say they were both good people... Before Bobby got

In guess you could say Sebastian is "Debeste" prosecutor. Hehe. But, in all seriousness, Sebastian is absolutely amazing as a character. He really picks up around Case 4 and was my 2nd favorite character in GK2 by the end. To quote Edgeworth, "He really has become dependable."

I really didn't like Sebastian when he was introduced. And in the next case I was like, "not you again". But then... The miracle happened. He became likeable, independent and stronger.

I found him a bit annoying at first, I guess I felt the same way Edgeworth did. When Franziska whipped him, I'll admit, I found it satisfying, just to see someone try to silence his smug face. But in the final case, he did a complete turnabout and suddenly he wasn't the annoying kid anymore but someone I started to feel bad for and cheered on.

Would definitely like to see how he's character-developed during the near-decade between AAI2 and GS6.

About Debeste (Itchiyanagi)... well, I hate any characters slowing down the search. Therefore, I hate Debeste's random accusation and his random thinking.
I don't mind to click texts on this kind of game but that kind of character is awfully bothersome. This applies to Courtney (Mikagami) as well.
