Could you put that in spoiler tags? I find it to be quite a revealing piece of information, even though, I understand that the question itslef is in tags, but one can never be too sure

The screenshot with Pearls having a Psyche-Lock?

Uh, sure, I can explain that.
Spoiler:
It's just something silly she's trying to hide from Nick. Psychelocks aren't a bad sign, by themselves. It's the black psychelocks you need to worry about.

On topic of Maya

Spoiler:
According to Gfaqs, she only appears in flashback and she apparently sent Phoenix a letter.

Awww...thats so sad. I was really hoping for an appearance considering Pearl is there and all. I really wanted to see what she looks like 8 years later.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Does this game
Spoiler:
seem like it should be called Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Dual Destinies, because it focuses more on Apollo & the newer characters

Also
Spoiler:
what is the deal about Apollo and Phoenix splitting up?

If more people properly labeled their spoiler tags you would probably realize there aren't many spoilers here. :yuusaku:

Anyway, my first questions:

1. How many different testimonies are there? Please say the number per case.
2. How many different pieces of evidence are there?
3. Does Athena have her own objection theme like Apollo and Phoenix?
4. Do the different lawyers also have their own pursuit themes?

I would just like a straight up yes or no answer to this question please, no explanations.

Spoiler: Concerning Maya
I've already heard that Maya is in some sort of flashback. Is she in the game in the present time as her older self?

Overall, I already feel pretty dissapointed with this game. I would care more about getting PLvsAA despite of people saying it's not the best of both franchises. This definitely isn't either judging by impressions i've heard.

Hmm, it's hard to put a finger on what. Some of it is due to spoilers that i won't tell but the rest is that sometimes the things that are meant to be funny feels a little forced imo, and that's never how it was in older Ace Attorney games. Humor is pretty big for this series, and sometimes, ONLY sometimes it falls flat in this game, but I've seen others who think it's pretty good.

To be completely fair, while I am slightly disappointed with the story judging by the dubious spoilers, I saw a stream of case 1 and 2, and the presentation of the game is quite excellent.

There's a whole lot of attention to detail going on and the atmosphere's pretty great. By no means does the game seem to be as divisive as Apollo Justice.

Without spoiling anything, what do you mean? Are the twists lame? The characters unamusing. The story weak? Im really trying to avoid spoilers here, since I really love the twists in the games, but the way everybody is making it seem, the story is pretty lame.
So whats really so bad?

It's the same issue that somebody had with AAI to put it in a comparison. The plot focuses more on the new characters while it doesn't seem like it has anything to do with the character of either Phoenix or Apollo. They are just the ones solving the mystery, but they aren't involved in the drama in the way they were in the first AA games.

I also don't think there's a lot of character development in the game from what i've seen and heard.

Someone has to ask this:

Spoiler: About Apollo Justice
Does Apollo find out that he and Trucy are related or who his mother is? Does he realize Phoenix kept that information from him?

I don't know if it'll end up being important to the plot, so please keep it simple - a yes or no will suffice.

And I'm just sitting here waiting for people to tell me about what was written in Maya's letter.

Small complaint - Can people please label their spoilers. if Im tryng to avoid GS5 spoilers, how was I supposed to know if that was a GS5 spoiler, or one for another game in the series. So for example that spoiler should have been labeled GS4 spoilers. Or if its for GS5 one should label the spoiler, Case 1 or Case 2 Spoilers.
That is all, just want to make sure no one gets spoiled for anything they dont want to be spoiled on, yet still be able to enjoy this thread.

We're getting mixed spoiler messages here, some folks yell at as for tagging needlessly, others for not tagging enough. I think anything from GS4 and earlier is fair game. Considering the game came out more than five years and all, and considering this is a spoiler thread on a spoiler forum.

You can satisfy everyone by just tagging your spoilers. Watch...
Spoiler: GS3 or Case 1 (No actual spoilers)
That shows people whats getting spoiled here.

This is my first post here, and decided to make an account to ask a couple of questions. A simple yes/no will suffice for each question, no details please.

1) Does Gumshoe appear in the game? Or is he referenced?
2) What case does Edgeworth play in? Just the case number will do, no details please.
3) Any reference to Kay or any of the AAI gang, including Franziska?
4) What do the costumes do in-game? Do they hold a purpose?
5) Is Mia channelled at any point?
6) Is Iris referenced in the game?
7) Does Edgeworth have a Great Revival theme remix in the game, or a theme in general?
8) Does Larry appear in the game? Or is he referenced?

I've been trying to avoid places like this but curiosity hit me.

Ash - With all the doom and gloom from people here about the story, how bad is it really. Are there sufficient twists like in the rest of the series. How about the overarching plot, does it connect all the cases together? Also in regards to the first and last cases, how do they compare to the first and last case of the other games respectively.
Also Bonus Question - Is there a flashback case, and if not is a past case mentioned?
Just please try to keep it as vague as possible.
Thanks for all the answers above!

And is Athena on Team Ladder or Team Stepladder?

Ok, I'll take a stab at this.
This is for those who have finished the game, but it's not really a spoiler question.
In the credits sequence, did they do it like in the past games where almost every character got a few lines to say what is currently happening?

I'm not bothered with the fact that the game will focus more on new characters in general, I'm VERY bothered with this "save the world" cliché bullshit theme. "A dark time is coming for our judicial system"... And BOOM, the three warriors of justice, Apollo, Phoenix and Athena came to save the world from darkness.

My question: Is Blackquill related to Athena somehow?

1. Is it implied or stated outright that Phoenix has not had contact with Edgeworth, Pearl, or Maya for the last eight years?
Spoiler: Possible GS5 Case 5 Spoiler
2. How large is Edgeworth's role? Does he get to prosecute an entire case or does he just fill in for one day?

3. Does Phoenix completely revert to his GS1-3 character? In other words, is all his character development in GS4 totally ignored?
Spoiler: Maybe a GS5 Spoiler?
4. Is the lack of the jurist system addressed at all or totally ignored?
