I'm stuck on Case 3, Investigation Part 2.

...Never mind, found what I was missing.

...and case 5, here we go. I'm getting one step closer to meeting a good ol' rival and friend of Phoenix...
........Oh, and did I say the script/humor was stilting? I lied, because I'm in Phoenix' shoes and he has a lot of clever lines again. I might actually end up putting this game on my top 3 anyway, but I should learn to stop being premature. I'll wait days or weeks after beating it to decide that fully!

Getting near the end of Case 3. Just got
Spoiler:

to take the stand. I figured they had something to do with it all along. But, MY GOD this trial is so long winded! The pay off better be worth it!

Gotta say, I cracked up when I saw that Director Cosmos rides a Segway -- er, excuse me, Galactic Scooter.

I've beaten the game already, but I was just reflecting on how hilarious Cosmos' breakdown was.

Now, even if you apologize...I will not forgive you.

But yeah -- first impressions on Case 5 once I finished it...

Spoiler: Major case 5 spoilers
The first half of Case 5 with Simon's re-trial was great. Simon's Mood Matrix segment was probably one of my favorite parts of the entire game. The Mood Matrix made his description of the crime scene and his discovery of Athena really intense and chaotic - I also really loved the art in that segment, especially that shot of young Simon chilling in the corner with the sword above his head. And Athena popping up all bloody at the end...*shudder* I also really enjoyed grilling Fulbright, until he started pulling the masks off...it wasn't terrible, per se, but it felt pretty abrupt.

I still don't know how I feel about the whole Phantom reveal, but it might grow on me. I also beat the game at like 3:30 AM and my brain was fried at that point, so maybe it deserves a replay and some more reflection.

Now, even if you apologize...I will not forgive you.

I'm on case 5 now, and...

Spoiler:
...There's so much going on. Simon is currently giving testimony, and I'm given the option of presenting either evidence or sorting out his emotions. However, since there are so many things to keep in mind all at once, I'm not sure what they want me to do. I'll have to continue after some light exam studying.

Edit: And now I feel stupid - it was ridiculously easy. Now I've just got to prove there was someone there before 2 pm...hm.

At case 5.
Spoiler: Edgeworth
I'm surprised at how sudden his arrival came to be. I'm glad to see his characterization is okay, but it's just that. I can't really feel the "Miles Edgeworth" in him yet, but I guess he's changed. At least he seems much better than in AAI (ugh!)

Made it to trial day 1.
Spoiler: Trial
Uhhh, Phoenix says "(As skilled as ever at playing the courtroom puppeteer, I see)"
When was Edgeworth a "puppeteer"? That's Blackquill... :phoenix:

He doesn't mean that as someone who manipulates, I believe he means that he already knows everything beforehand, like in JFA case 4, he already had his case formed right from the beggining and was moving the court along at his pace.

That said, I'm wondering myself how I arrived at that conclusion from the word you gave :shoe:

All right, let's see...

Spoiler: Case 1
Really cool introduction-case. The villain was, like almost any other first case (except 4-1), obvious from the start, though I really liked the directions it took, can't really explain it, as my memory seems somewhat fainted, but it was a good starting case, nonetheless

Spoiler: Case 2
Jeez, I dunno if I liked this case or if I should hate it.. first of all, we have those great disguise-shenanigans, then all the stuff with who was in the room, who was not and how awfully obvious it was, who were the evil guys.
I also couldn't stand Filch's sprites one bit.
L'Belle reminded me a LOT of Jean Armstrong, which is bad thing, obviously.
Though, I was really excited, when Apollo entered his "thinking-state" at the end of the chapter, when you had to piece the final pieces together.
Yet, I was very disappointed by L'Belle's breakdown.

Best thing about the case was, without a doubt, Simon Blackquill and everytime he entered.

Bobby Fulbright was a cool character, as well.

Spoiler: Case 3
Just at the start, got a huge WTF-moment, when I saw Juniper Woods... Doesn't the case play AFTER the first case? I bet, it will be explained in the case, later on, just made me kinda curious...

But AA-games always have some kind of nag for big wtf-moments.

I actually haven't even begun case 3 yet, but I've gone back to replay the first case and am speeding through the second. Did anyone else catch Phoenix's psychological test for the judge? It's the one around the time when he's trying to figure out what that writing is supposed to mean.

I really ought to explore the wrong options more.

Spoiler:
Case 3 takes place before case 1, as Apollo doesn't know Juniper in this case when she is revealed. Maybe case 1 takes place when the school is out, for reasons you will later understand.

Beat it!
You can say what you will about it, and case 5 being "formulaic", I won't dismiss that completely (just like Athena does have Sue traits) but in neither cases do I think it meant they sucked. In fact, I quite like Athena and I could look past some of the "she's awesome"/"I want to believe in you!" stuff. It felt like something out of your typical AA-flavor.

And case 5... damn, it was definitely better than I expected and I quite liked the final "boss" if you will. (I hate using that term with AA :/)

GOD DAMN that was good

I thought Aristotle was weird but I honestly thought the killer was Hugh for a while there. His reveal that he's really TWENTY FIVE and Robin's reveal he's REALLY A SHE! God.

Fuck, this was awesome. Aristotle's breakdown was funny.

I played the case most of last night, I only took a 5 minute break to check the turnip prices on Animal Crossing.

By the way why does Klavier have an American accent..

The coolest conceptual part of case 3 was
Spoiler: Characters of case 3
that both Hugh and Robin turned out to be the complete opposite of what they claimed to be. Robin yelling "Maaaan" and talking about her masculinity all the time felt all the more ridiculous after you realise she's a lady and Hugh was just a Zero (pun) "Huge Zero" when he said he was a genius

Man why couldn't they have given us a full cutscene of Klavier and Juniper singing? That would have been excellent.
The case in general was pretty good, though I'd pretty much pegged Aristotle for the dude the second he showed up on screen. Dunno why...just a feeling, perhaps that creepy smile. I quite liked his final form so to speak, thought it was hilarious how he conducted the courtroom like a class. Only big problem is the whole 'statue position' at the end. If he'd used his spear to make it seem as if the figure was objecting...and it was done from the wound...the pointer arm should have been much lower. I never thought the arrow looked an inappropriate length...just an inappropriate height and I don't see how the spear would have fixed that. It was nice to see Klavier get some time, even if it was exceedingly....meagre, but hey they had to have him in the trailer somehow after all. Also anyone else find it weird how people just casually talk about forging evidence like it's nothing? Phoenix lost his badge for it...and he didn't even know it was forged evidence. The last time someone talked about forged evidence around Apollo he clocked 'em in the face with his mighty fists. Yet here Aristotle makes the most TRANSPARENT hints at forging evidence and Apollo just nods along.

Uh....this is the problem with constant flashback cases, I lose all sense of continuity and get confused. So it takes place BEFORE the bombing incident where Apollo was injured...but he's wearing his eyepatch/bandanna anyway? I hope they explain that. Though I like Starbucks as a witness he reminds me a fair bit of Larry and I love his almost 'PTSD'-like flashbacks to being in a spacecraft in trouble. XD Then of course he 'flies away' and it's awesome.

Launch Pad 1 being switched with the Space Museum was a pretty clever twist.

I downloaded the game and the costumes...does that count as progress? :edgey:

I still have the last case of GK2, the manga, and AJ to do, so unless I speed through everything I'm probably going to start case 1 around Thanksgiving. Oh well, I guess that gives Capcom time to release the DLC Case.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

Right just beat Case 4

Spoiler: Case 4 entirely
I see what people were talking about with this case being short. In the end it feels like I'm being cheated a little...since the final case will actually be...the same case with just a different suspect. Also regarding Athena's fingerprints I remember Phoenix at one point saying "Don't touch stuff you'll become a suspect" but eh it happens. I'm not especially worried, the lighter has a Saturn emblem on it while we have testimony the suspicious figure held and Earth emblem so can run with that in Court.

Other that bothers me is the same problem with AAI1 had one me...utter...time screw. So Apollo was injured and had a bandanna on before the big explosion that put his body in bandages and killed Candice Arme? Then Case 1 occurs at some point during this case? Uh I wish they didn't do so many flash back cases or at least clarified why Apollo was injured before the bombing.

Though the case I found quite enjoyable, I think the Robots are adorable, I liked that mad old Space captain, I REALLY liked how Apollo is fleshed out a great deal here. The Defendant was entertaining, he reminds me a little bit of Larry but with a deal more 'heroism'. The breakdown was HILARIOUS.

Best of all Fulbright got to be SHEER AWESOME in this case.

Spoiler: Case 5 Little bit of Athena's backstory...mostly ranting
I don't buy it, I don't bloody buy it. I didn't buy it even before I knew. SEVEN YEARS?! SEVEN YEARS to get a degree in psychology AND a full Law Degree presumably with Masters and all! An undergraduate course where I live takes 4 years base, and that sure as hell doesn't specialise in Analytical Psychology, nevermind the Law exam which is probably more vigorous. She only had seven years abroad and she accomplished all this? God forget it, it's beyond my belief.

At least Franny and Klavier were born there, Franny had parents who could probably fast-track her education and considering the profession of both Gavin bros they probably had people who could help that as well.

Spoiler: Back on Athena
Athena on the other hand went there when she was 11 ELEVEN! And just GOT into university years early without any specific reason! In fact we're told she barely attended school at all back in America so god knows how she got anywhere.

Tbf, we don't even KNOW enough about the Gavin bros to tell if they were helped or even born there. Especially since in Case 3:

Spoiler:
Klav says he STARTED at Themis Academy where he met Courte but he went to Europe and that's where he got his degree. He would have cleared things by age 17, on top of the rock star thing.

In the case of Athena:

Spoiler:
She said she was driven to achieve that much in a short time to help Blackquill one day. Considering the execution dates, that's not exactly a time to drag it out if you can hurry it up, and she'd be over in ~Europe~, the magical land where girls can apparently pass the bar at age 13. We don't even know if, like you suppose with the Gavins, Athena's family over there could have helped her or if her mom even fast tracked her on a lot of knowledge while Metis was alive. She's still a year after Klavier in passing the bar, too.

Robin is a girl, although it wasn't much of a shocker to me.

This might have been discussed before, but does anyone else thinks almost the entirety of Hugh's character looks and acts a lot like GS1 Edgeworth?

Just working through the final case stuff

Spoiler: Case 5 Trial Day 1
Just cleared Athena AND Blackquill's name. Was nice to see the other side of Blackquill and see Athena sort out some of her problems...but knowing what black psyche locks are now...I'm even more curious what horrible repressed memory Kristoph had back then. I also don't know why they didn't have Pearls as an assistant for a while...I guess because they wanted to pull Athena out of the hat halfway through. I'm getting increasingly sad that it's looking like I can't indict Ms Blackquill with the murder however, she's just such a spiteful and horrible person I would so love breaking her down on the witness stand.

Well, I just got to halfway or so through Case 3. I'm a little late I guess, since I had to get mine a few days after release.

Spoiler: Case 1
I thought case one was really good. There certainly seems to be a theme of homage to older cases. This one reminds me of case one in the original PW, what with Athena defending a friend, like how Phoenix defended Larry. Also the vagueness of the motive was rather reminiscent of the 1-1, as Sawhit's motive was only mentioned right at the end, and there weren't many hints towards it.

Spoiler: Case 2
One thing that I didn't like as I played case 2, was that you can't examine everything! OH NOES! I was kinda disappointed since there were so many different awesome things in Nine Tales Vale to examine.
L'Belle was very reminiscent of Red White, with his egotism, but for the whole perfume thing, kind of reminded me of Jean Armstrong as well.
Blackquill and Fullbright remind me of how Edgeworth and Gumshoe came across in the first Phoenix Wright game.
Some twists I saw coming, some I didn't.

Spoiler: Part spoilers for Case 3 as I've not completed it yet
Holy shinto! That twist with Robin Newman really got me. I hadn't a clue it was going to turn out like that. At first, I wasn't entirely sure about this case. I liked most of the characters, but Robin's loudness really irritated me, but the twist kind of turned it about, if you will. I'm also really enjoying the humour, and I like Apollo much more than in AA4, and I really like Athena too.
I'm finding this case really gripping, and I can't wait to see where it goes next!

So, that's about where I am. Also, Fullbright reminds me more of a dog than perhaps even Gumshoe. :sadshoe:

Beat it!

Review time:

Final cases were real slick and pretty awesome in how they played out.
One specific part got a real rise out of me...
Spoiler: Case 5 Big spoiler
Image "Mommy's not working so I'm going to fix her!"

God seeing that in 3D in a pitch dark room at 3AM in the morning was pretty freaking traumatic. About as close to a Jump Scare in this game as you are going to get.
However I felt they worked well, the final villain was....incredible as well and I did not see it coming at all. I actually had a whole different idea for how things would work out but it turned out more wishful thinking in the end.

Spoiler: Case 5
I REALLY REALLY HATE AURA BLACKQUILL. Way I see it she gets off so lightly for all she's done. I mean she's threatening Trucy...actively in front of Phoenix and...I don't know why but I think they could have portrayed him caring a bit more. We've seen Phoenix in a similar situation back in Case 2-4 with Maya and at this point Nick has known Trucy longer and has an arguably better connection with her and yet....I didn't think he fretted as much over Trucy. Perhaps he's calmed down a little or something but I think he was freaking out more over Athena than Trucy in this finale moment despite the danger. I also thought it was hilarious of Simon to try and ask Wright Anything Agency to defend Aura in the credits. Like hell Phoenix would take that case.

Overall I thought the game was pretty good, folks probably already know where I stand on Athena but that aside I DID like the Mood Matrix and for a while she seemed real charming. Thought it was real nice how they develop Apollo as well got some real touching moments about him. Favourite characters were in 2 and 4 however my new favourite character in all of AA has to go to Bobby Fulbright, because he's just so damn charming XD a great new addition.

Regarding the cameos of Klavier and Pearl...I thought Klavier's worked well enough and I was glad to see him again. He's always been a nice guy and a standup prosecutor in the pursuit of truth so it was nice to get a break with someone so level-headed in the 'dark age of the law' especially in the case he appears in where that theme is so heavy. As for Pearl...well...she was just there for the poster I gotta admit, she didn't really bring much to the table at all. Also it's REAL weird how Athena is on 'nickname' terms with Pearly since I doubt they've met before.

However it's still relatively excellent and any AA fan can be proud to consider this a part of the main series.
