Because we need a topic for every case.

Just started. And seeing someone I hadn't expected in this case ^^

Quick question (no spoilers): Do you really defend the orca or do you defend its careteaker, that pirate girl?

A couple of questions (please don't give any story spoilers):

#1. Regarding your sentence about seeing someone you hadn't expected, I have these questions:
1a. Is it a returning character from other GS/GK games?
1b. If the answer to 1b is "yes", is this character also in the main GS5 game?

2. Do you know how long the case is? Is it a full-size case or something tiny?

3. In your opinion, is it a canon "serious" case which is just built on a comedic premise (like 1-3) or is it a non-canon completely crazy just-for-fun case (like the PLvsAA DLC)? Does it clash or mesh with the GS5 main story at all?
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

The orca.

Spoiler:
Yes, and yes.

Not sure yet. I only finished up to the first save point now, but I suspect it's about half of a 'normal' case.

Is 1-3 built on a comedic premise? >_> Anyway, it's a normal case and canon, as announced beforehand.

Oh, and what are the names of the victim and the other suspects (particularly the lady in the black coat and scarf. I think her name is Reika Uratori but not sure if that is right)? The only characters I know of are Shouko Umino, Ale and Ikuya Itsuka.

This is like watching One Piece and playing lawyer at the same time. I've barely begun, and I'm loving every bit of it.

Is 1-3 built on a comedic premise? >_> Anyway, it's a normal case and canon, as announced beforehand.

That's just the best I could come up with to describe 1-3. When I've previously called it a "serious" case (ex. canon, involves a murder) people have gotten onto me about calling it serious; when I've called it comedic people think I'm talking about something like the PLvsAA case.

To those who have completed GS5 and are now playing this, the reason I am still asking about canon even though its confirmed to take place in-between AJ and GS5 is that reviews and previews for GS5 seemed to hint that Case 1 of GS5 was Phoenix's first return to court - in fact, the english demo even made it sound like this!

Without giving away any spoilers, does this case cheapen or lessen that in any way? Does Phoenix treat Case 1 as his first case even though this orca case supposedly is? Is there some explanation that the trial of the Orca isn't a "real" trial (maybe it's like Maritime Law or something. If so the localization team could have a field day with Arrested Development references)?

And lastly, there's always a chance the DLC will come out on Day 1 in the US since it's already been released here. If that happens, would you recommend playing through it first before you play through GS5 (since chronologically it's before) or would that ruin the story of one or the other?

Thanks for answering all my questions!

To clarify: Case 1 of GS5 is not Phoenix's first case back, even though the demos framed it that way. It's possible they initially planned it that way, or that they just wanted to play with people's expectations, but it definitely isn't, and in the final game he's much more confident in case 1 than the demos suggested.

This case is his first case back, and it takes place before case 1. (Though you can't actually play it until you complete case 1, presumably so the player has a good sense of who everyone is.)

Hmm, that's interesting. That's also actually really cool, because Phoenix's seemingly lack of confidence was one thing I was upset about. Assuming there's no spoilers/reason why you shouldn't play this case before case 2,3,4, or 5, then after case 1 is actually a great place for this case. Now I kind of hope it comes out as day one DLC here so that I'll be able to play it that way.

On the case select screen, does it fit itself in between case 2 and 3, or after case 5?

(sorry for all the questions!)

It's on the main menu screen, as opposed to the case select screen.

It's great that this is actually a full-length case! I was really expecting this to be a 15-30 min one part case.

My last and final question will be to any one who has completed it (meaning it will probably be unanswered for a while. Take your time and enjoy the case! :edgy: )

Would you recommend a first time player (someone who hasn't played GS5 before) playthrough the whole game (cases 1,2,3,4 and 5) and then going to play the DLC case? Or would you recommend someone play through case 1, play the DLC case, and then play through cases 2,3,4, and 5. And I'm talking in regards to spoilers/reveals about future plot; if the DLC case is totally self-contained and just comes before GS5 I would play it before cases 2-5, but if it ties into any of those cases and ruins twists or surprises maybe i shouldn't.)

Spoiler:
Let me get the characters I've seen so far:

Ryouji Arafune - victim; "captain" of the aquarium
Shouko Umino - animal trainer
Ale - orca living in said aquarium
Ikuya Itsuka - rookie aquarium trainer
Reika Uratori - nonfiction writer

So what was the cause of death anyway? And was there any given reason for why Uratori is at the aquarium because from the looks of things right now, she seems to be the most suspicious to me.

And what is the name of the aquarium anyway?

Also, is the returning character

Spoiler:
Pearl? if so, does she meet trucy for the first time?

And who's the scientist guy with the penguin mask and a penguin in his hair? I think his first name is Gaku but don't know the surname for sure, which I think is Sugomori. So is the name right?

A rapping pirate in a game about lawyers? Now I've seen everything...

Also, I want pirate captain Athena for a DLC costume, Capcom! Make it happen!

Spoiler: Cutscene spoilers
I don't suppose anyone can translate the song they sing in the pirate show cutscenes? Aside from the fat lady's version, they don't sound too different to me, so either version is fine.

Just finished it. A fun case and the GREATEST breakdown scene for the whole game. There is also great thematics going on. The pacing of the last section is way off though, and the case does feel a bit like a re-imagined 1-3.

Spoiler:
Because of the 'specialist' environment, the reversed dynamics of the death (falling, instead of being beaten), the tragic accident in the past-case and the tragic motive. But a fun case nonetheless: I loved how Ikuya told Naruhodo that just by 'sacrificing' Ale, he could easily save Shouko, but that Naruhodo in the end manages to save everyone, including Ikuya. And hey, is this the first time we have an accidental death, with the 'guilty' one appearing soon after his punishment,

Already forgot her name ^^' She was the previous trainer of Ale, who was killed one year ago (apparently by Ale).

Played through day one of the investigation. I'm really liking the case so far; I know it's not likely we'll get any others because this was clearly developed alongside the main game, but if they did decide to make more cases at this level I'd be down for every one.

So does the DLC case give an actual date?

(I suppose it's just a month not a year like the rest of GS5. But if it's in 'November' or 'December' it suggests it's at the end of the same year as GS4 despite the '8 years' thing. But if it isn't it could prove it's the actual year later.)

They have confirmed that it will be localized and released for western audiences, I would assume that includes Europe, even though it'll probably be English only.

It supposed to be 800 yen, but it is 400 yen now (to 'reward' early buyers).

It's the funniest one I think, but it doesn't mean it isn't serious. It takes itself serious like any other case and there are a lot of feels at the ending. Great case, possibly better than other GS5 cases.

So that means the best way to play GS5 would be to play

Is there a name for the penguin Athena chases around the beginning? And what are the name puns behind Ryouji Arafune, Reika Uratori, Gaku Sugomori and Suzumi Natsukaze (I think that's the blue-haired trainer's name)?

And wow, did not see it coming on how the Day 2 Trial went:

Spoiler: Big spoilers here.
I was sure it was Gaku Sugomori who was the culprit due to his Psyche-Locks but then it turned out to be Ikuya Itsuka. Never saw Ikuya's huge transformation coming.

Ah, so it takes place after case 2?

So that means the best way to play GS5 would be to play
Case 1, Case 2, DLC Case, Case 3, Case 4, Case 5?

The best way is always to play games in order of their (original) release, so I'll guess you should do the same here. Case 1 to 5 and then the DLC case.

Spoiler:
I think the penguin's names are "Sniper" and "Rifle" Rifle is the one that Athena finds and is in the Anime cutscene, and Sniper is the one in Gaku's hair.

Spoiler:
Sugomori was 'hiding' for the police IIRC (his equipment is illegal).

Spoiler: Name Puns
Arafune Ryouji -> Arafune ('stormy boat'), not sure about Ryouji.
Uratori Reika -> Uratori ('ura wo toru', to check on things, to investigate). Reika is probably from reika (beneath zero (celcius)).
Sugomori Gaku -> Su (nest), komori (gomori) (watching a child, babysit), Gaku (learn)
Natsukaze Suzumi -> Natsukaze (summer wind), Suzumi (suzu, cool (temperature).

It's the funniest one I think, but it doesn't mean it isn't serious. It takes itself serious like any other case and there are a lot of feels at the ending. Great case, possibly better than other GS5 cases.

Would you care to elaborate? I'm curious as to how they manage to pull that off.

This is what happens when a team of writers poor their hearts into a single project as opposed to several at once. It is beautiful in so many ways. It begins as a joke, but becomes solemn midway, and at that final moment of truth, you realize that it is worth it to pursue things to their utmost end.

If I went any further in, I'd have to cover up the details in spoilers. If you don't mind a few light ones, I could describe them.

But at the very least, I can declare Apollo as the buttmonkey of all buttmonkeys. Congratulations!

That's just the best I could come up with to describe 1-3. When I've previously called it a "serious" case (ex. canon, involves a murder) people have gotten onto me about calling it serious; when I've called it comedic people think I'm talking about something like the PLvsAA case.

I use the term "colorful" to describe Case 1-3. Case Threes in general tend to have the most colorful settings, the most colorful characters, the most colorful premises.

Does Turnabout Return feature any new music pieces that aren't already in the main game? Say, character themes for Shouko or Ale?

Yes it does Angela. And two new >>songs<<, yeah that's true, you heard me right. There's litterally singing in it. And one of them is Athena. It's so cheesy and good!

Hey, where's Blackquill in the cutscenes? Oh, right.

He's still in jail.
