Is it me, or are fish puns normally worse in English than in Japanese? Nothing against Sasha, but they get old R-EEL-Y fast.

She still does? She hasn't lived with Morgan for about 8 years. She was with a tour group, so she's clearly not as isolated as she used to be.

I've been playing this case all day & I'm stuck on Marlon Rimes's Mood Matrix testimony.
Spoiler:
his testimony is
1: in the show pool, the orca shot the captain up into the air
2: Then the captain came down and slammed into the water
3: I can still remember it clearly...
4: All Sasha did was movie the body! She was tryin' to protect the orca.
5: When Ms. DePlume witnessed the orca findin' the body, I freaked.

which emotion is unexpected: Anger or Sadness?

"Reclaimed" refers to the fact that this is the first case Phoenix takes on after reclaiming his attorney's badge and thus his lawyer status.

Why did Shipley take a bloody blow to the head after his death, as described in the autopsy report? The bag of coins was also soiled with his blood, which is why Phoenix's theory of coins-as-murder-weapon held some water (pardon the pun) in the first place. This was included in the updated autopsy report, so there's no reason for the fact to have made it in there by mistake.

Other than that, I have no other objections to this case. It was brilliant the first time, and it's brilliant again in English! I loved the localized jokes and references, aside from how cringe-worthy Sasha's fish puns are. Heck, even the English dubbed songs aren't bad at all, and maybe it's just me, but

I really liked it, and I even had a "what-the-hell-do-you-want-from-me?!" moment, and I immediately felt like an idiot when I figured it out. I actually liked all the fish puns (snapper out of it!), the references and the characters were nice. My only complaints would probably be about Apollo, Trucy and Pearl getting sidelined to make room for Athena and that it felt like several 'secrets' weren't secrets at all. It also got a bit messy towards the end.

It also hit me that Athena is one year older than Pearl. ONE. And Pearl hasn't even graduated college yet! I tells ya, somethin's fishy here.

The best thing of all though?
Spoiler: Villain

I've only got one VERY important question to ask:
Spoiler: Mental scarring
why did DePlume imagine Athena in a much more revealing outfit when she sang her version of the song? That kept me thoroughly amused throughout the entire case.

So she doesn't want to be the only woman left with those hunks of delicious manmeat, so she fantasizes about a really skinny and (un)surprisingly well-endowed 18-year-old joining in on the fun?

So what was the explanation? :eh?:

Spoiler:
The CDAC demanded Ora be put down, but the cap'n and vet gave them a condition: to let Orla go free in place of removing Ora. So, the CDAC knew there were two whales.

As I expected, there was no explanation given for why the captain told those few to keep quiet about Ora and Orla, but they had never brought up to the public that the aquarium had two whales to begin with. The meeting with the CDAC was done in secret, so when DePlume found that a large sum of money was transferred out every month, she suspected that the CDAC was being bribed to keep quiet. Actually, they were already satisfied a year ago.

I also noticed the localization never brought up that Orla was sickly when she was young. I don't remember exactly when it was stated, but I remember translating that line while I read through Sasha's explanation near the end of the trial. It could be a memory lapse on my part, though.

She chased Athena more, which is rather funny actually. I still think Athena's different outfits are the greatest mystery this case offered.

Involving Apollo and Trucy would mean acknowleding their existence, which might limit the amount of attention we can give Athena in a sexy pirate outfit, and that would be MADNESS!

Spoiler: DLC case, 5-3
I sort of got the impression that Jack may have intentionally "broken away" from Marlon's grip, since he was scared that Marlon would fall as well.

Did anyone else think that Blackquill realised exactly what had happened when he investigated the Show Pool room? I'm not sure if that casts a negative light on his character since, if he did, he still tried to prosecute Sasha, or if it was another moment of his kinder side shining through (like when he consoles Juniper in 5-3), since he just happens to mention the bruise in time for it to come out that Marlon was actually trying to save Jack.

I just finished it. It's one of the best cases in the game, and my favorite filler case, period. I also thought it had one of the best one-off casts in the series; nobody boring or completely unpalatable.

The localized names were pretty good. Dr. Crab da best. <3 I'll admit I didn't get the pun in his name at first = "hermit crab," dur hur.
Now, even if you apologize...I will not forgive you.

Some thoughts...

Great case, though it began to drag a little toward the end. I honestly kept guessing about the "true murderer" until 3/4 the game. Then I thought, "I guess they're going with THAT person..."

Spoiler: at least until
it looked like it was going to be the first TRUE accidental death of Ace Attorney (that we North American playing folks know of)

I liked all of the new characters... Sasha, Orla, Rifle and Sniper, Dr. Crab, DePlume, Marlon, and so on.

Spoiler: Marlon
His rapping, oddly, didn't bug me half as much as Wocky Kitaki's gangsta front. The rapping did get progressively silly, but the Phoenix diss parts were pretty funny. Still, I think I liked Marlon a lot more when he wasn't a fish-gnawing, over-muscled freak.

Spoiler: Dr. Crab
I started to suspect him but figured the pills were sleeping pills, and that he was genuine about not bringing harm to the orcas. Sniper living in his hair... LOL

Spoiler: Sniper
Anyone know when Sniper was actually born? After a few months, wouldn't she be too big to live in Dr. Crab's hair?

Spoiler: Norma DePlume
WARDROBE MALFUNCTION FTW. Actually, I'm only kidding, but Phoenix's reactions were pretty hilarious.

Also Norma's song was cute in spite of the weirdness.

Spoiler: Returning character
Loved seeing Pearl, but they went overboard with all the fish smell comments that I almost thought they were going to toss at us a few... hygiene jokes. LOL. I guess that would be too much even for AA.

And at least there was some nice Pearl/Trucy interaction. But goddamnit AA, again with the panties? Is it too much to hope they don't reappear in GS6?

Spoiler: the Wright prosecutor...? Give me a break, the case is an ocean of bad puns
Anyone feel like Blackquill wasn't the best prosecutor for the case?

I'm not doubting his abilities, only the story writers' choice. Was there any real reason for Blackquill to be there? All his talk about respecting the birds was cute, and sure, Bobby was there, but other than that, couldn't there have been someone else to take the case?

I just feel like the case missed a great opportunity for some hot, hot Klavier Gavin action.

Why Klavier, you ask?

1) Needs more screen time and/or connection to this new arc, only had a mock trial appearance in 5-3.
2) Lots of musical performances. Perhaps he could have lent a hand in the investigation, or at least been involved in some of the writing for the Shipshape shows?
3) He was the last prosecutor Phoenix faced off against before he lost his attorney's badge. Think of what they could have done here. How fitting would it be if Klavier had been the first prosecutor Phoenix faced after getting back his badge?
4) Also possible cameo by Ema or at least a mention (not just "Trucy's friend" or fingerprint powder that Pearl needed for "forensicking"). Maybe Bobby would have still been the detective, but would talk about her grumpiness or something as a reason she wasn't on the case.

Spoiler: Possible contradiction
Maybe it was because it was late, but I'm a little fuzzy on the system Dr. Crab was using. He said TORNADO would alert him to any changes to the animals, but as far as the orca pool sensors go, without water, the sensors would shut off and he wouldn't know of any danger. This was a big point when Orla had swallowed the sleeping pills and Crab had no idea.

TORNADO was also responsible for letting Dr. Crab know about feedings, which is why he knew Rifle ate and Orla hadn't.

My question is, how did he know Orla hadn't eaten before the murder, or at least during the times the pools were drained? Wasn't that also tied to the sensor system, or am I misremembering something?

Loved seeing Pearl, but they went overboard with all the fish smell comments that I almost thought they were going to toss at us a few... hygiene jokes. LOL. I guess that would be too much even for AA.

And at least there was some nice Pearl/Trucy interaction. But goddamnit AA, again with the panties? Is it too much to hope they don't reappear in GS6?

You mean like...

Spoiler:
Pearl: everything smells like fish...
Trucy: close your legs, then!

Yeah, Blackquill felt sort of out of place. While he does make some macabre jokes, he tends to be serious, and this case was anything but.

However, I doubt a case like this could've developed Klavier...I mean, the man didn't react to his brother being hauled off to prison, why would he care about an orca?

Spoiler:
Well, it's not so much a matter of caring about the defendant. After all, Simon cared just as much. As I said, it would be more fitting for him to face off against Wright than anyone else, even over a less serious case like that. Some character growth might have happened with some Wright/Klavier interaction. Maybe Klavier was genuinely conflicted about the Gramarye case, hasn't formally apologized to Phoenix for getting him screwed over (though unknowingly), and is perhaps happy the man is back behind the bench? Something like that. At least for a few minutes, nothing to overshadow the case. If they needed a way to tie Klavier in with the rest of the cast and story, they could have done so.

Spoiler:
That is a very good point; I'd love to see Klavier actually apologize to Phoenix. Tricked or not, his actions messed up Phoenix's life for years, even though Kristoph and Zak are also to blame (seriously, they keep a picture of the latter in their office. I'm surprised Phoenix allows that, even if he's Trucy's biological father.)

And who knows, maybe we could've learned something more about him...anything at all that isn't related to law or music. Maybe he really likes aquariums? I mean, it's not proper characterization but at least it's something that gives him more depth than a plastic bag.

From one thing to another:
Spoiler:
Pearl said a 'certain/special someone' would 'be there' at the end. Was she talking about Rimes, or did they honestly tease us with Maya?

Am I the only who thinks that title reminds me of Furio Tigre?

Also, I was always wondering on how Marlon hide all of those muscles. Then again, it's Phoenix Wright we're talking about.

One last thing, YAY, CROSS EXAMINING AN ANIMAL!

Spoiler:
"The Dissing of Phoenix Wright" reminds you of Furio Tigre? How so?

And yeah, the muscles are a bit mystifying, even for PW standards. Unless there's some spirit channeling going on behind the scenes! :basil:

I also thought it was Maya at first... but seeing as how Marlon was released from jail by that time, it's probably him.

Spoiler:
I suspected nearly everyone except Norma at some point. I think I even suspected Sasha. Forget why, maybe because I thought her "worried" animation with the blade was kind of shady-looking.

Spoiler:
His transformation was pretty funny, and I really liked his breakdown. Overall, I thought he was a pretty good "sympathetic" villain, though I was kind of hoping he'd be a bit more threatening (though considering the nature of the "murder," I guess it makes sense how he acted).

I couldn't stop laughing when the testimony box with THE DISSIN' OF PHOENIX WRIGHT came up.

Spoiler: Dr. Crab
I started to suspect him but figured the pills were sleeping pills, and that he was genuine about not bringing harm to the orcas. Sniper living in his hair... LOL

Spoiler:
I thought Dr. Crab had one of the more creative designs in the series. He kind of looks like Spike Spiegel, if he somehow migrated to the AA universe and became a vet 15 years later. Some of his animations were really captivating. I remember letting that animation of him trying to grab Sniper in his hair loop a few times when I first saw it, haha.

I suspected him at first, too, mostly because based on meta rules, the murderer very rarely testifies on Day 1. (I think this only happens a handful of times in the series.) His absence until Day 2 was also suspicious. I'm glad they didn't go that route, though. Always nice to actually be a bit surprised when the true killer is revealed.

Spoiler:
Didn't the animals also have separate sensors on them or something? That might have been tied to the water level, but I was honestly a bit confused by that part too.

Now, even if you apologize...I will not forgive you.
