Busy with work... Just got around to finishing the case.

In my opinion, this DLC case was much better than any of the cases during the main game. Story was good, loved all of the new characters, and there was lots of volume to it (more than I'd anticipated, anyways).

The カンガエルート for this case really was shocking, I thought. Couldn't help but smile when I got to the "truth".

Very happy with my purchase, though judging from the file size it was probably already included in the game from the start. How very "Capcom" of them.

Just finished myself. What a great case, and with the length of it and how much went into it you can tell they really wanted to make it good value as a piece of DLC.

Spoiler:
I didn't really have a solid idea of who the killer was for a while, though Uratori was ruled out pretty quickly. I'm a little ashamed to admit I suspected Gaku for a bit but soon the evidence against him was just getting too suspicious.

I got a kick out of Ikuya's 'transformation', and man what a breakdown! I caught onto there being two whales and Ikuya trying to save Ryouji rather than killing him a bit before the game got there, but it was still a great ride.

There's just something enchanting about the cases where animals are present as major turning points in the case. This one is no exception and absolutely follows the trend. I can't get that catchy pirate theme out of my head, especially now that I've searched out the lyrics.

I am in general not a particular fan of animal mysteries, but I have to admit that it worked really well in this case. I happen to have talked about the topic a bit earlier this week (before playing this case) in a review on Higashigawa Tokuya's Kanzen Hanzai ni Neko wa Nanbiki Hitsuyouka?) actually....

Quote:
The cat-theme did bring up memories of a discussion I was once present at on so-called cat-mysteries. When is it appropiate to call something a cat-mystery (or more broadly; an animal mystery)? Kanzen Hanzai ni Neko wa Nanbiki Hitsuyouka for example does feature a lot of cat themes, like the manekineko, the murderer's cat mask and the search for the missing cat, but some might argue for fiction where cats themselves play an active role in the case. A series like Akagawa Jirou's Mikeneko Holmes can thus be considered the cat-mystery, but one could also consider a cat leading detectives to clues / murderers to be a bit unrealistic. And I guess that Morikawa Tomoki's Cat Food (with magical cats) is also out of the questions. And if we are only looking at mystery fiction where animals act...well, you'd expect the animal in question to behave, would it be possible to consider Gyakuten Saiban / Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney a parrot mystery?

I'm not quite done with it (at the last 'phase' of the case), but so far I really like this case. Gaku might beat out Ban/Fulbright for my favorite character of the game.

Earlier today, I remembered the "Miles Edgeworth: Dolphin Whisperer" art that floated around when GK1 was in early development... I wonder that was the basis of this case, or if any elements from it made it through. Obviously, we don't have any actual way of knowing, but... just a thought I had.

No... The last case of the main game just sapped my motivation to play. But now that DD is out in English, I figured I needed to play this to stay ahead of everyone else.

Also, we haven't heard anything about any more DLC cases or anything, but in this case, Athena said something about Nick helping her when they met, and Athena becoming a lawyer because of it... Sounds like Nick got her acquitted from a murder accusation. (No idea why Nick would be practicing in America, but hey, he did it in PLvAA.) I'd like to see that as another DLC case. (And definitely not just to purposely lose and get Athena sentenced to death over and over again.)

Wait a sec. If Athena went to Eurmerica to study abroad, and that was around the time she met with Nick, he didn't have his attorney's badge. What was he doing? Something to do with law stuff, I'd think, but how would he "help" her if she was just an international student at the time? What, was he an honored spokesperson at a school or something? If it's the latter point, then the localization has screwed itself over.
Spoiler:
Thalassa was meant to have traveled to America shortly after GS4, but the localizing team changed it to Japan instead. Of course, it's all possible that she later traveled to Europe for a different tour, but nowhere in AJ does it suggest that. There's no connection to GS4 in that sense.
Besides, the former point sounds a lot more plausible.

I think this should be renamed to Turnabout Reclaimed already.

Spoiler:
Wait, in one of the pre-release screenshots, when Blackquill mentions "荒船 エル" in his opening statement or whatever, was that intentional since the official website lists Ale as "エール" or is "エル" just another way of saying Ale? Because after seeing the English version of said screenshot, the screenshot is referring Orla as "Ora", I'm starting to think it's a very tiny bit of foreshadowing to the existence of the second whale.

Huh? I was under the impression that Elle was put out of commission because of the incident from a year ago; as a request from the Dangerous Animal Watch Center, or whatever it's called. Ryouji and Gaku obliged on the condition that Ale would be pardoned from the punishment. Afterward, the captain told the few members who knew to keep it secret that Elle had "left".

I'm not sure why they HAD to keep the two whales secret, though. Apparently when Ryouji first found the two whale sisters stranded on a beach, Ale was sickly. It was why she was never on the show before; she had to take some time to recover. Still, they could have at least announced that Elle had backup at ready when Ale fully recovered.

Spoiler:
I think they were aware that there are two whales, and since Ale hadn't done anything wrong, it was fine for her to star. For some reason, the captain decided to keep Elle's removal a secret. Maybe he figured since Elle was so popular, he didn't want fans to know that she had disappeared. And to comply with the DAWC, he had to move Elle somewhere.

Now that I think about it, perhaps Cap'n did explain Suzumi's medical condition, which is why the DAWC allowed them to keep Elle alive. However, for sake of publicity, they had to put Elle away, if only to tell the public that the "danger" was dealt with. After this year's case, since Phoenix revealed the secret, the DAWC allowed Gaku to bring Elle back, since there wouldn't be a point to hiding Elle's disappearing act anymore.

...I'm just wondering why they absolutely had to keep Suzumi's condition a secret in the first place, even from her boyfriend. Without knowing that, last year's mystery could have been properly answered, and this year's incident could have been prevented. Maybe I'm thinking too much into it?

Post subject:  Re: Turnabout Reclaimed discussion thread

Spoiler:
But the two whales wasn't publicly revealed. Putting Elle away to convince the public the "danger" was gone would make sense, but they kept the whale switching a secret.

Also, I can't help but think that DAWC wanted Elle put to sleep. I mean, if they just didn't want Elle near the public, couldn't they have just kept her at the aquarium without putting her in the show? Why did they need to hide her away at Marlin Aquarium?

Hmm... Maybe DAWC ordered them to kill Elle, so they hid her away at Marlin Aquarium, and started putting Ale in the shows without telling the public, but they told DAWC about the whale switch, but said that Elle was killed. It doesn't explain why the two whales was ever kept a secret, but...

Also, I don't think anyone knew about Suzumi's condition? They probably never did an official autopsy because it was ruled an accident caused by a whale, so they never confirmed it was from the heart condition rather than the whale.
